First the good: The unique, hand crafted jewelry in this little shop is beautiful. Lots of different, one of a kind pieces. The shop sells the pieces for the designers, kinda like a broker. We learned a lot of information about turquoise. I had no idea how many different kinds of turquoise there is. My friend was looking for a matching earrings for her bracelet. Owner told us that particular turquoise is no longer mined but eventually we found some earrings that were a close match. We both purchased a couple pieces. The only criticism I have is the owner doesn't stay focused. He is very very knowledgeable all things turquoise but we didn't need to hear the history of every piece that we were not even interested in. He kept showing my friend items that she wasn't in there to look at We almost left until a pair of earrings caught my eye that I thought would match her bracelet. They were a very close match so she did make a purchase. Even though he said more than once: These earrings are expensive and I would hate for you to pay that much‍ He almost lost a $1000 sale between her and I because he was not focused and even tried to discourage the earring purchase at one point. I was excited to walk in to this little place on Main Street and was quickly underwhelmed by the overall customer service inside. One woman working, never said hello to me or made eye contact. She was helping another couple inside who were looking to purchase an item and she couldn't find the price for the piece they wanted. She stated "I can't sell it to you since I don't have the price". The couple left without purchasing anything. I stayed and perused most of the cases and even found a pair of earrings I wanted to buy. Based on what I observed and the lack of her attention to me even being in the store I left without purchasing anything. I'm a believer in great customer service and if I don't even get acknowledged I'll take my business elsewhere. Thanks for absolutely nothing! read more

Giving one star since it's needed to rate this store and that's being too kind. The man at the store was very rude. My mom and I were looking at earrings that looked like amethyst but were a stone called Tiffany. They were beautiful. When my mom asked how much the amethyst earrings were, the man rudely told my mom they were not amethyst and that they were Tiffany stone. My mom said "oh, okay how much are they?" He replied "They are too expensive for you." I grabbed her hand and said "Let's go." We used to love seeing the jewelry here when we would visit Durango, but never again. My mom did not deserve to be treated this way and hope others don't experience this treatment. read more

I was in Durango a couple weeks ago and wandered into Lanka Blue, where I found a beautiful ring that was almost beyond my budget. My salesperson was very knowledgeable, and she quickly educated me as to why the ring was pricier than most. The owner is a very unpleasant person. He acted very put out by our questions and as a result we carried our business elsewhere.

Wandered into this little shop and was so pleased. The salesman was so knowledgable and helpful concerning Indian jewelry. I bought a great turquoise bracelet and my friend bought a squash blossom necklace and ring. He even had the owner bring in some loose stones for us to look at. A very good experience. I've shopped at many of these places out west and this is the best. I will return next time I'm in Durango. read more

A few months ago I purchased a beautiful dry creek turquoise bracelet from this shop and I get compliments everywhere I go. The bracelet was a little too big so they sized it down perfectly to my wrist and now I never take it off! The owner is sweet and you can tell they care about what they do.
