I have been buying books here for years, and have never found a better selection of tomes about spirituality, consciousness, awareness, astronomy, and other "New Agey" topics in a store this small, anywhere. At first glance it seems like a typical little crystal/bookstore place, but closer examination reveals a surprisingly solid selection of some of the classic spiritual texts, often used, and at truly fair prices. I have found some of the best books I have ever encountered about life here, and usually at a quarter of their original prices. Dorothy is not here to get rich; she is here to provide a true public service to those aware enough to seek the wisdom of history's greatest minds in figuring out why we're here and how to live a life of integrity and intelligence. She has given me so many great deals, and always with her wonderful smile and great vibe. It has always amazed me that I can never find mention of this place on goole or anywhere, and no one ever mentions it here in town. Dorothy and her husband have been running this place for decades, and apparently it has remained a well-kept secret. I hope this review can change that, as I can think of no one else in town who better embodies the Durango spirit than these two lovely folks. Their bumper stickers are also hilarious! Humor and wisdom go hand in hand... God bless you guys, and Buddha and Allah and Zoroaster too! Between The Covers indeed had both! Including a picture of the one I was most fascinated by. If I had more money to my name I would've wiped their collection of Where's Waldo books clean. Great selection (definitely look at the staff picks!) of books for all ages, beautiful Telluride merch you won't find in the town's gift shops, and other cool miscellaneous stuff like kids toys and educational materials. They had some playing cards with Spanish / Italian / Japanese translations that I thought were really cool. A must if you're in town!

We went to the Animas Museum and had a great visit. We actually messed up and came in the back door, It is an old school house and has desks of the era, many great old photos of the town . Turns out that Animas was the towns original name. My favorite Was a list of the teachers jobs such as starting the fire. The list of punishments for various kid misdeeds is priceless, lashes were applied liberally. A very nice young man named Pablo showed us around as well as a wonderful little lady who was very helpful with the history of the building. Make sure to go it is only a five dollar donation. They had a deep science fiction collection, far better than any other bookstore in town, and the prices were always reasonable. When I left town for college I sold my 2000+ volume collection of science fiction and fantasy books to them, and although I was able to use the proceeds to buy a much needed computer, I always regretted losing those books to do it. After 32 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, I moved back to New Mexico. My wife Valerie and I took a trip up to Farmington so I could show her where I grew up. Imagine my surprise when I found Amy's Bookcase still there! And bustling with shoppers! And with just as great a selection as when I was a kid! Better, if I'm honest. I looked for some of my books (which I initialed on the top edge with a black marker). I was a little disappointed not to find any, but I picked up a few well thumbed books that I remembered fondly from my youth and a few newer ones besides. My wife and I will absolutely be coming back when we're in the area. It's a great store run by fantastic, friendly people, and they have a lot more than science fiction to offer.
