The tests showed that his levels were escalating to nearly dangerous levels. We had our follow up appointment a few days later and he was able to address all of our concerns and questions. Learning about this closure by hearing about it on a phone greeting was such a blow. I closely review our mail and we never got a letter notifying us that he was closing his practice. I'm not the only one. Two other parents at my daughter's school whose kids also saw him as their pediatrician, said they never got a letter. How extremely unprofessional. All these years and I foolishly thought they cared about my family. I was able to contact Dr Nguyen directly through the private text app he used (SPRUCE) only to get his direct but curt and cold reply. No graciousness, no courtesy, no appreciation for being a loyal patient over a decade. Just the same message he posted to Facebook - his office is permanently closed. I asked how to retrieve my daughter's medical records. He was no help. Despite arriving while Dr. Miller was still in, she never came out to assess him, nor did she or her team respond to any of our messages or calls. Over a week later, and her team still have not reached out to us. My husband ended up taking our son to urgent care. This is especially upsetting coming from a team that has cared for my child since birth, without any issues. We will not be returning and will gladly find care elsewhere. P.S. Do not go here. If you do, please note: 1. The office requires that all communications go through My Chart and that they will respond within 48 hrs. Standard response time is MUCH longer or never. Way too long to answer a simple follow up question to an appointment. Have been in situations where advised to contact pediatrician by medical professionals and cannot get through. 2. When you do receive a response, sometimes it is a non-doctor medical professional responding, and we have had times where the response is not relevant and clearly copy-pasted from a form response. The non-doctor medical professionals are also empowered to immediately close the conversation after responding one question. One time the advice even contradicted the explicit medication instructions on a label, which would be a safety issue had we not read the label. 3. Regularly overbill and we have to spend a lot of time remedying the situation with the UCLA billing department. Even then, their rates are much higher than non-UCLA pediatric specialists. 4. You can always get in because they open up a ton of appointment slots on a rolling basis within 24-48 hrs. The down side is, they up charge you for booking the appointment because it is being booked on an "urgent" basis. What's the point of a pediatrician, if you can't see them when your kid is sick without incurring a significant up charge? Life isn't all well checks. 5. After hour nurse line always advises to go to ER. 6. We have had lab results posted on My Chart (not talking about just a throat swab or strep test) and received zero follow up. The posted lab results will have no interpretation and no message or guidance posted. When this inevitably happens, I head to Reddit, Google, or the neighborhood ER nurse. 7. Pediatricians are kind at appointment, but the entire system is designed to minimize all communication with them. They are walled off from patients by design. Multiple kids here for many years. Actively shopping for better care.
