My family and I have been seeing her for the last 2 years and she has truly been a Godsend. She is the ONLY doctor I trust now in treating my 6 and 8 year old. She's professional, compassionate, knowledgeable, and has a lot of common sense in connecting dots that most other doctors cannot do. She has helped my 74 year old mother and my dad (who is in his 80's) He now sees her as well. My dad was the biggest skeptic out there being an old school physician himself and was very skeptical about non-traditional medicine and homeopathy because of his profession. But as he saw it working on my daughter, he became intrigued and decided to take a leap as well. In just one week of seeing Dr. Burns, he finally got relief from debilitating burning pains in his arms and legs and insomnia that he has been suffering from for years! He is a loyal patient now. Traditional medicine is great for some things like trauma, fixing a broken bone and mechanical injuries -- great at bandaid fixes -- but I started to explore non-traditional Western medicine when I saw Western medicine failing my oldest daughter and actually making her sicker. The doctors (some who were supposedly the best (specialists even) and probably are as far as Western Medicine goes) really messed my 8 year old daughter up with steroid creams to treat her eczema and antibiotics for yearly bouts of pneumonia. I lost all faith in doctors at that point and dreaded seeing them. It felt like every time we went in with something, they were either shoving more antibiotics or steroid creams down my throat, even steroid inhalers for an asthma bout. That is when I found Dr. Burns and knew from the initial consult, she was going to be our doctor from there on forward. She was so thorough and knowledgeable. She has not only been more successful in treating my daughters' illnesses over the last two years (antibiotic and steroid free!), she has helped strengthen their immune systems where they don't get sick that often anymore. She has addressed my daughter's underlying cause of eczema instead of suppressing the problem with steroid creams. My daughter is the healthiest and happiest she has ever been. I too have seen Dr. Burns over the last two years to address some chronic health issues, including anxiety from my daughter's chronic health issues, insomnia, hair loss, chronic hives and skin rashes, and fatigue. I have seen her for illnesses, colds, food allergies and my health has no doubt, dramatically improved over the last two years. My anxiety is a thing of the past. She has educated and empowered me, made me less afraid of illness and has helped me see and trust the body's innate wisdom to heal without all these hardcore medications Western Medicine tries to throw at every problem. She has a really balanced approach and perspective and knows when antibiotics might be needed. She is not 'against' pharmaceuticals or traditional Western Medicine. She knows they have their place sometimes, but she explores every other option first and walk me through acute illnesses with my kids, reassuring me along the way. We have had success with homeopathy with every illness we have gone in for, even my daughter's UTI. She didn't end up needing antibiotics for it. Dr. Burns really listens and cares and is a true 'partner' in healthcare. She worked for a number of years under the traditional Western Medicine model as a nurse, so really has an understanding of both traditional and non-traditional holistic medicine. I appreciate her background in western medicine because she understands both perspectives. I have referred a number of friends and family members to Dr. Burns over the last couple of years for things like anxiety, insomnia, heart palpitations, skin rashes, migraines, digestive issues, food allergies, fears, and nerve issues -- and I can confidently say that all have had positive experiences with her. It is rare to find such a genuine, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable doctor who is truly in medicine because she cares and wants to see her patients get better and not need her any longer. She wants to see her patients get stronger and healthier to the point they don't need her. She has taught me so much about homeopathy and empowered me in taking charge of my children's health -- not to be afraid. When I made it to my rescheduled appointment, I was met with smiles and friendliness. Dr.Lohtia was behind schedule, which they had recorded on a handy white board at the front of the office. Being warned in advance that I should expect to be about 30 minutes behind made it much easier to wait. The nurse and Dr.Lohtia were personable, knowledgeable, efficient and kind. I mentioned a sandwich spot near by, and the nurse lit up. She was eager to give me her recommendation and directions to find it. On my way out, I had a similar encounter with the receptionist. She told me a story about a patient visiting the same shop, and how popular it is. Everything about the office seemed eager, helpful, competent and kind. It's disappointing so many people reviewed it differently. On the other hand, it probably allowed for the opening I needed to see this wonderful doctor! I was desperate because of nerve pain I was suffering after my left upper lung was removed. I honestly can't say enough great things about him. He listens and ask questions. No rushing ever. I always feel heard and my questions answered. He is one of the kindest most compassionate doctors I have ever been to. He is very knowledgeable and discussed a few other problems that he didn't have to but took the time anyway. I brought myself to Dr. Kates because an ER doctor told me I had lung cancer. My body was like a broken down car. I could not talk without coughing. The ER doctor and the x ray technician were convinced I had lung cancer because of the presence of a spot on one lung. As an aside, I told Dr. Kates I have problems swallowing. I thought I was not yet at death's door, but I was coming up the drive and could see death's door. I could see Mrs. Death waving at me from the upstair window. Dr. Kates gave me medication for the cough, ordered comprehensive blood tests, sent me to a otolaryngologist to get my throat scoped and a pulmonologist to check out the spot. The blood results came back. "Low in vitamin D, B, thyroid problem and you got to get off the carbs. You're pre-diabetic.", she said. I smiled to myself. She wasn't scolding me, but I naturally thought, "Hmmm. I've been behaving badly." She put me on supplements, the thyroid pill that all us old people take and sent me off to get a sonogram of my liver to make sure it wasn't blown. I was not feeling happy with all of the news of my blood work. This was in November. When I left, she said, "We are going to get you fixed up and back in order!" I thought, "I'm her project. She's going to fix me. Great!" The otolaryngologist scoped my throat and put ballon down there to open it up a bit so that I can once again wolf my food as I am wont to do. The pulmonologist gave me a bank of blood tests to discover that my problem was an inflammation caused by an allergic reaction to juniper. (I had earlier shoveled several truck loads of juniper chips without a mask.) Another specialist scoped my lung and did a biopsy of the spot. It turned out to me nothing. It is 7 months now after I came limping in to visit Dr. Kates. Yesterday I looked at my "report card": my blood results. Everything is normal again. The glucose is at the low end of normal! Dr. Kates fixed me! I wonder why earlier doctors did not discover my vitamin deficiencies, the thyroid problem and the pre-diabetic condition. I don't know. I just appreciated that Dr. Kates gave me the bumper to bumper check up rather than just focusing on the lung problem that I came to her for. I appreciated that she did not hesitate to pass me on to the specialists to get the lung and throat problems attended to. When I was getting blood drawn earlier, I questioned if I was getting the proper tests done. "This is for Dr. Kates, right?" I said, "Yes." "Well", she says, "Dr Kates is picky about things being done right, so I always double check. You are getting the right tests." I laughed to myself again: Dr. Kates terrorizes the phlebotomists into doing a good job. No, they just respect her. So do I, and if you value your life, so should you. Someday they might make a movie about Dr. Kates. If they do, they will get an actress like the young Kate Mulgrew who played Captain Janeway in the Star Trek Voyager series.

No thanks to you or any care that she got from you. As a neurologist you should have been able to diagnose her epilepsy. Your only assumption of her was that she needed a psychiatrist.
