Where other cleaners we've had start strong and fall off after a few cleanings, Jose's crew set their standards high and have maintained the same standard of excellence from day one. In truth, it's a bit pricey compared to other housecleaning services, but as they say, you get what you pay for and with Maria G Housecleaning, you get a consistent, professional and thorough cleaning, every time! We have been using Maria G for about a year with bi-weekly cleanings. We didn't have good experiences with the two cleaning companies we had prior so I didn't have high expectations going in to give you some perspective. Jose was friendly and accommodating with our schedule. Most companies do a thorough job the first time and then start to slack off but Maria G did not do that. We had a crew of 3 ladies and they were great. They came early and cleaned our 3 BR 2.5BA Apt in about an hour but did a thorough job. They were friendly with my young kids when we were home and did more than the other companies we used. They unloaded the dishwasher and started it before they left and really did a great job with our showers. We were able to pay via paypal/venmo which was great because I didn't have to make a trip to the ATM. We are moving out of town but if we ever come back I will call Jose again. read more

I called Maria G based on Yelp reviews. José was the person I've been communicating with, getting my first DEEP cleaning set up. I wanted ALL of my kitchen appliances cleaned thoroughly, along with regular things like vacuuming, mopping, dusting, etc. After a few struggles of finding a day and time that worked for me, we finally got it set up. Three ladies showed up this passed Tuesday at around 10:30am, ready to clean. I hung out for a bit, then headed out to the movies while they did their stuff. I got home at 2:30 and was so excited to come home to a clean house! And it was amazing when in walked in. Floors sparkling, countertops shining like I've never seen, beds made, all surfaces dusted. I really wanted to like Maria G Cleaners. They were recommended by a friend. However, after several visits, I ended their service. They are very hard to get a hold of (texting is the best (only?) way). They do an awesome job the first time. Truly! But the quality dies off quickly. They lack organization and it seems I was always reminding THEM that they had an appointment to clean. This makes me believe they don't value their business, schedule, or customers. The cleaning people are never the same, hence the inconsistency. Their prices are fairly reasonable for the area (a positive). BUT, they have failed to show up TWICE now even after confirming the appt 3 days prior. One time, they actually entered someone else's unlocked home, cleaned their house, and locked it on the way out. This was NOT MY HOUSE! They literally cleaned someone else's home without permission because they did not do the dilligence to ensure they were at the correct home (btw, my nanny, baby and dog are always home to let them in so it'd be pretty obvious they were in the wrong home). Instead of apologizing, the owner told me to go over to the other person's house, knock on the door, and see if their house is clean. Um, this is not a transferrable transaction. I don't care that you cleaned someone else's house, you did not clean mine! Again, no apologies. I rescheduled and they came a few days later. Then because of this error, I was hesitant to schedule again, but figured I'd give them another chance. I confirmed an appt 3 days in advance with my address (again). The night before they changed the time from noon to "closer to 1". I informed my nanny. As of 115p, they still hadn't shown, so my nanny figured they were lost again and went walking around the complex with my baby in the cold to see if she could see them and direct them to my place. She returned at 130 after not seeing them. Obviously they didn't show. I called and the owner was extremely defensive and said that they came at 120p and knocked and rang the doorbell. He kept saying he was there, he was there, it was the nanny's fault. Again, no apoogizes, no polite customer service, no trying to rectify the situation. Nothing. I fired them on the spot, something I've never done. I've never experienced such a crappy response from a service oriented company, espeically one you let in your home. Also worth nothing, they would often come early. I'm all for being early, but when you make an appt for 10a and they show at 830a, that's a bit much because how do you plan. Oh and they also will send a barrage of texts at 835a wondering where you, despite the fact that the appt isn't for another 1.5 hours. In addition to Yelp reviews, I always check out the reviewer --how many reviews the reviewers each have, etc. Maria's was not my first choice because I was hesitant about the low number of reviews from the reviewers. Don't fret if you have the same concern. This really is as good as it gets and then some. I called for a short notice move out clean, made an appointment for 8am on a Monday, confirmed my appointment the day before, and they arrived with Maria's son and 3 cleaners for the 2 bedroom and 1 bath apartment. 1. I showed up a few minutes before 8am and they were already on site waiting for me. 2. They did an amazing job with the whole apartment in an hour and a half without any problems. 3. The price was more than reasonable. They take cash or check. 4. Maria's son asked me to make sure everything was cleaned to my liking (YES it was) and offered to come back if during the walk through, the property manager wants something more. Two thumbs up!! I know every appointment is different but I very much enjoyed my experience with them and would use Maria G's again. ***Not only was the service great and amazing, Maria's son went above and beyond. The key to the apartment got stuck in the lock and he got it out for me---dont ask, the lock and key look like they are 10 years old. I paid, said my thank yous and they left. As I was locking up the place, the stupid key got STUCK again!!! I tried for 10 minutes to get it out without any luck. I called Maria's son to ask how he did it 30 minutes earlier and I still couldn't get it out. He offered to drive back (which he did) even though he was already in the next city over. While it seems almost redundant to add another 5-star review to a great organization's Yelp page, these are folks that deserve every business boost they can get. I was initially nervous about letting a perfect stranger clean my house. I've had housecleaners before, but they were always people we already knew before. They did a decent job, good enough that we never had to worry about keeping our floors swept and counters clear. Our last cleaner was a friend of ours who we hired as she was looking for work. Once she found a full-time job in SF, it was time for a new service. We found Maria G's on Yelp, of course. Did a walkthrough with Jose, Maria's son, who was a consummate professional. Every time I told him he could skip this or that part of the house (areas that we rarely use), he would insist that his team CLEANS ALL THE THINGS. We negotiated a rate. It was about $5 less than we'd been previously charged, and it sounded like it would include more people and more cleaning. We set up a trial cleaning the next day. They brought a team of 3-4 people (I think 2-3 is the norm for ongoing cleaning) for the first cleaning, and WOW. They went DEEP and DETAILED. Just as Jose promised, they essentially skipped nothing. They also seemed to know just where to put things in the kitchen-- they had a great intuitive sense of where our stuff goes. The person who owned the car happened to work at Maria G.'s housecleaning. After everything was finished, he offered to come over and clean my house once in the future. For free, on his own time. This individual didn't have to offer anything other than a handshake, yet he offered to take time out of his life and thank me by cleaning my home. This is the kind of person I want cleaning my house. (Disclaimer - Though wearing a work uniform while I jumped his car, he was off work driving his personal vehicle. Maria and her team are great...they really are detail oriented and have a lot of integrity. I love coming home and seeing everything sparkling and perfect. For my 2/2, her team is usually 3-4 people, clean bathrooms, fold laundry, clean kitchens, change linens, dust, sweep decks/patios, wash windows, do dishes, take out trash, and even throw in a load of laundry. Not stoked they were late, but when the owner shows up at your house to apologize, that's a solid customer service move. I can see how this company gets very good reviews on Yelp. The first time I hired them, Maria, her son and one other person came to do the cleaning and they did a nice job. So I thought that I should hire them on a weekly basis. But to my big disappointment, the second time Maria sent a crew of three people. They were supposed to clean our house for one hour, but they finished within 40 minutes and left several areas uncleaned. I was charged $80 for 40 minutes of not so good cleaning work - simply ridiculous! More importantly I felt cheated by this company because they did the first time very well to try to get us hooked onto their service, and second time they send some other people who just went straight into our house without wearing any booties, did not do a thorough cleaning job, and just wanted to get paid. I never write reviews of any kind. I was so blown away by the quality of cleaning, the low price, and Maria's sincerity as a person that I'm actually writing a review. Like Christina M. I was a bit nervous since Maria G isn't "branded" like Molly Maids, Maid Brigade etc. I had nothing to worry about. The apartment went from biohazard to looking like it was built yesterday - and her charge was absurdly low. What's more, since I was out of town on cleaning day, she didn't even worry about the money until later - amazing. I gave her a 20% tip. The only minor minor nitpick was, on cleaning day I wasn't 100% sure she was actually coming, or what time, since she hadn't confirmed the exact time. However, her associate called me back mid-morning to confirm. Update: 08/19/12 I wrote the original review yesterday after the mixup with my appointment. I received a call back from Maria, the owner, to apologize for the mixup. She also offered to do a free cleaning due to this mistake. Due to lack of time, I asked if her crew can just do the kitchen and bathrooms since I had previous appointments. They were a few minutes late and finished in 2 hours versus the 1 hour estimate tha Maria gave me. The work was great. the kitchen and bathrooms were spotless when they were done. I am taking off 2 stars because of the appointment mix up and the fact that my whole house smelled of bleach by the time the crew was done. In fact, I had to go out of the house because my eyes started burning and I had trouble breathing. ******************************************************************* I would give this service a zero star rating if I could. I set up an appointment a week in advance for 8:30 am this morning. I've only used Maria's once, but I was really impressed. She had a team of 4 work on our 2/1 apartment. Less than 2 hours and they were done. I was say that their cleaning overall pretty great. I was surprised that she told me she didn't have anything to wipe the TV screen with. Being that every house as at least a TV and maybe a desktop, that should be something that they carry with them. That and I would've been extremely happy if they used a Mr Clean eraser for the wall smudges - but I know that's not common for basic housecleaning. I'll definitely call her again. read more

They cleaned the oven, microwave, fridge, cleaned windows and most impressively, cleaned our bamboo floors WITH NO STREAKS. Maria and her crew does a good job, when they show up that is... We used them for about 6 months, having them come to clean our 1 bedroom apartment every two weeks. They did a great job and the apartment was always nice and clean. However, we recently moved apartments and the Friday before we were due to move they didn't show up at all and they did not call or text to cancel or anything. This was fine by us as we wanted to have a more thorough cleaning after we had moved out anyway. After moving to our new place, we contacted Jose (Maria's son), to agree on dates and times for cleaning of our new apartment. It took about a week to get a response, which should have been a warning sign, I guess... We finally managed to schedule an appointment for a Saturday at lunch time. We waited in our apartment for 30 min past the scheduled time, but no one showed up so we decided to leave. That was about 2 weeks ago now and we have not heard anything since. No apology for not showing up, nothing. So, we are now on the lookout for new cleaners. Recommendations are welcomed! read more

After reading the comments on Yelp, I decided to try Maria G. Housecleaning instead of other two cleaning service. But ended up with disappointment. 1) The $80 hourly rate was at the middle of three services I called as I only asked to clean the kitchen and two fairly small bathrooms. But it turned out to be the most expensive one as they finished in 1.5 hours, whereas the others gave a flat rate of less than $100. 2) The crew of 3 came a few minutes late, and one started off to arrange the bed in a room. When I told them only to clean the kitchen and two bathrooms, they seemed not sure of what exactly the job was. The guy of the crew told me that Maria told them there is a new house to do, that's all. --- Miscommunication. After they got on the same page(took them a while to straighten out) they transport the unneeded tools back to the car. Then one worked in the bathrooms while the others in the kitchen. 3) I told the two people cleaning in the kitchen that I was more concerned about the greasy on the cabinetry, stove, hood, and the dirty tile surface in the kitchen, but not the dust. Still, one of them spent over 20 minutes wiping the dinner table and went on dusting the bar area which was not greasy at all. I've also noticed the one cleaned the bathrooms taking over 40 minutes to do the smaller bathroom with the size of 32 square feet. Not sure why it took her so long. I'm not happy with the end results, and my family did not even notice much of a difference after they return home: 1) The cabinets above the stove still had greasy areas not been cleaned; 2) Only one light on the hood was cleaned and left out the other one; 3) Back splash behind the stove and sink was not cleaned(the granite color is dark, but doesn't mean no need to clean); the knobs on the stove weren't cleaned either; 4) The kitchen floor tiles was cleaned only once simply with vacumm and mop given it required more attention. And the grouts between tiles were still dirty. After I talked to the crew, one member offered to come back the same day to get it done in 20 minutes, but he DID NOT come back as promised. Yes, the surface of the refrigerator, dishwasher, dinner table, bathtub, etc. were clean, but when it gets to the details and the parts really needed to be cleaned, it was not finished as it should be. They weren't efficient maybe due to the hourly rate instead of a fixed rate. But I was surprised to read one of the reviewer said $80 to do the WHOLE house with 3 people and 1.5 hrs. I was not happy with Jose and his team's deep cleaning service for a move-in. It only took them one and a half or two hours to clean a home with three bedrooms and two baths. I know for a fact that it would take longer than that and plus when they were done, I noticed and pointed out the areas that were not cleaned. I have to wonder if the previous reviewers are friends of Maria G because I had a terrible experience. Scheduling with whom I can only assume was Jose, since he never properly introduced himself, was easy through text; however, he was 45 minutes late and didn't even bother to call to let me know that he would be late until 10 minutes before he arrived. For a busy, pregnant, working mom with a thousand things to do, 45 minutes makes a big deal. I walked Jose through the house and instead of telling me that his team cleans everything (like another user posted), he was busy telling me about things that he couldn't clean like soap scum, etc. He remarked how clean my house is (which is true), which you would assume would lend to some sort of discount to normal fees. Unfortunately, they charge by the room and bathroom (counting half baths as full), which was WAY more than anyone has ever charged me (at least double). Still, I was willing to roll with it, especially since I had read such great reviews and at 7 months pregnant, I'm desperate. His negotiations were absurd, coming back at me later that evening with a text trying to charge me more for an additional room that didn't even need cleaning (a guest room that goes unused). Still, I rolled with it and told him a time that worked for me the following day. When I didn't hear from him the next day, I wrote him a text declining his services and thanking him for coming out. I've been using the service for my new home in Palo Alto for a year now. The trial experience was excellent. However, the cleaning quality has deteriorated significantly since then. There are always spots left un-cleaned. Moreover, because of careless usage of cleaning tools, the crew has damaged furniture and scratched floor all over the place. When I complained to Jose, the response I got was "accidents happen. we are humans", and "the only way for you to stop complaining is to cancel the service". What kind of attitude it is?!
