The impact that Charlene has had on my life is hard to capture in a Yelp review, but suffice to say it was overwhelmingly positive and informative. Not to deify her, but in the 5 years since I stopped seeing her I have not had a severe recurrence of depression or anxiety. While Charlene is certainly not the sole reason for my ongoing mental well-being, there is no doubt in my mind she has greatly enabled it. I gained such valuable perspective-- and ultimately emotional and mental resilience-- from her unwavering ability to guide me in critically examining my thoughts and actions for what they really were. Charlene enabled me to better understand, navigate and overcome my inner critic (my irrational, negative thought patterns; unattainable self-imposed rules; and co-dependent relationships). The tools, strategies, and decades of experience she brought to our sessions have resulted in healthier response patterns, which continue to be invaluable to my day-to-day experiences. Charlene's style is direct and resolute, which I particularly valued but realize may be difficult for others-- perhaps that's why the negative reviewers here unfairly label her as "harsh and cold", creating an "unsafe space" and showing favoritism to "clients she likes". In both my one-on-one and group therapy experience with her, Charlene was uncompromisingly professional. Yes, she is quirky; her cluttered office is a veritable botanical garden with all the plants everywhere; and her [well-behaved] crated dog is in the room. If you're seeking an "amenity-rich" and "comfortable" therapy experience with someone who will reassure and coddle you in their luxury office space, Charlene is not for you. However, if you're committed to change and want to work with someone who will guide, challenge and push you to do the hard work, I could not recommend Charlene more highly. Thank you, Charlene; you've made an indelibly positive impact on my life.

She appeared to be judging me within the first 5 minutes of our conversation. After she met with me, my mother and my child together, she continued to make judgments on my parenting and was rude and not helpful with techniques that I could use to help my child with my childs different issues. When I asked questions, she gave condescending answers and she was closed off with her interpersonal skills. She did not listen fully to my concerns and already seemed to have her mind made up on how I was not parenting correctly. After 15 minutes, we realized that she was not providing the service as advertised. She did not offer alternative interventions, she did not nurture the situation by listening and giving successful strategies for my child's weaknesses. When she did speak, she spoke with an attitude and with a condescending tone that put me on edge. She was insulting and dismissed concerns that I had regarding things that could be causing my child's behavior problems. She even discredited food coloring, artificial flavoring, and sugar as a legitimate concern for a parent investigating their child's hyper activeness, refusing to consider this as a potential behavior factor. I left her office and then returned to ask for my paperwork back since she did not provide the service we had agreed upon, and she stated "No, that is my paperwork and I will be billing insurance the full hour because you wasted an hour of my time." Wendy Radding does not encompass the Social Work Code of Ethics and I would never recommend this therapist to anyone.

My mental state wasn't suitable for long or regular therapy, but Dr. Klosson kept me in therapy. When I couldn't find the strength within myself, she was always there to support me. She made me feel like she would never leave me. After a while, I had to move away, but when I returned, she welcomed me back in the same warm way. Then, I had to move again, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, I reached out for online support. Today, after working with another therapist for a long period, I am ok. Dr. Klosson's calmness, her unconditional acceptance of me (I must admit, I was quite agitated and impulsive during those days), her patience, and her belief that I would get better one day still warm my heart today. Carol is probably the LEAST professional psychotherapist I've been to see, and that's saying a lot…read morebecause we are talking about a rather large sampling -- LOL. Truth be told, I am a bit of a female Woody Allen. I had three sessions with Carol. The first two were okay, but I found myself repeating details a lot -- people's names, etc. I figured I'd give it some time to see if she had a bad memory or if she'd catch on. But during the third session the building maintenance people were doing construction in the office next door to Carol's. And it was loud, really loud. During the session, she turns to me and says, "This is going to last for about an hour." Um, um, um. "Do you think that perhaps you could have called me in advance to cancel the session given that neither one of us can hear a word the other saying?" Clearly she knew about the noise in advance. IMO, a professional therapist would have ended the session there or called the client to cancel. Nope, not Carol. In fact, during the session she was completely distracted and had her body partially turned to the back wall where the noise was coming from. Yet when I complained to her about how unproductive this session was afterward, she completely denied that there was a problem.... Of course she wanted me to come in to pay for another session to talk about MY reaction to the noise. I decided to give it one more shot and was going through a difficult time. Carol just couldn't get it together to reply to my email requests for an appointment in a timely way. When she finally did reply she said something like "I'd love to talk with you." Okay, great. Good to know after nearly 2 weeks of trying to get in touch. However, she failed to provide a day and time for when that might happen. What therapist agrees to an appointment, then doesn't know to provide a day and time for the appointment? Feeling really annoyed, I sent several emails sequentially just to annoy Carol. Not my finest moment, I admit. That's when Carol told me (via email mind you) that I need to work on my interpersonal skills. No sh-t. Why does she think I'm going to a therapist to begin with? At that point she still expected us to talk a few days later. Um, no. Healer: heal thyself. I told Carol that my lack interpersonal skills still don't change the fact that she was completely unprofessional in her handling of the situation, and that it was really bad form for her to attack me especially via email. Carol never apologized or acknowledged the problems on her end. Done. Good-bye, lady. I guess now I can only aspire to Carol's finely-honed interpersonal skills which seem to include license to criticize a client via email. I've often thought psychotherapists go into practice to try to fix themselves. Here is a clear case of that. (By way of background, I came to Carol through the work she and several colleagues do on weekends involving family constellations (Bert Hellinger). I've done tons of this work with a very gifted facilitator. Carol's colleagues succeed only in spite of themselves. Hellinger's model is that powerful. But their facilitation really kinda sucks. One of her colleagues, Betsy, is perpetually about to end a constellation because she doesn't know where to go with it. The other, Mary, is just grouchy and completely misses key components of how constellations are supposed to be set up.
