    Father's Day buffet
    Shawna P.

Our family has a camp near patoka lake. I have heard wonderful things about Marcy's kitchen so this past Father's Day we decided to check it out. It isn't anything fancy. It's definitely a country kitchen in a small town. With that being said, I thought the food was pretty dang yummy and priced just right. On Father's Day they had a special buffet filled with all of the basic country foods. Fried chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, cole slaw, etc. Even had strawberry pie for dessert. My husband really enjoyed it. I opted for the fried fish sandwich and fries which weren't anything out of the ordinary but surprisingly delicious. They serve breakfast all day which is a big plus. The staff was friendly and the service was good. We will definitely be back.

Chicken tenders and fries were good. Not the best I've ever had but better than most.

Great food and great service. After a camping and fishing trip all weekend it was a great place to stop and eat.

We had Lori on Monday who brought our drinks and refills. On Friday we had Darcy doing the honors. Both were very friendly and efficient! Very family friendly and the deserts were so good that we had to make a trip to their bakery to pick up a couple delicious pies.

Having grown up in PA, I'm very familiar with "Pennsylvania Dutch" or Amish and Mennonite cooking. I would characterize this style of cooking as hearty, simple, and high-calorie comfort food. The buffet included three main sections. The first included two soups (chicken noodle and vegetable), salad bar items, prepared salads (such as coleslaws and broccoli salad), and some gelatin molds. The second station was hot items (meats, gravies, vegetables). Finally, there was a dessert station with an assortment of cobblers, cookies, cupcakes, soft serve ice cream, and more. I noticed other patrons with homemade white bread but I somehow missed it on the buffet. Overall, there was a good selection of items available. I most enjoyed the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, and berry and peach cobblers. The biggest misses were the chicken noodle soup (which didn't seem to contain any chicken pieces, was only lukewarm, and very over-salted) and the chocolate ice cream, which was runny. My husband and I found the food to be generally bland. (Granted, Amish food isn't known to have a spicy profile). In addition, they didn't offer some foods and desserts that I generally associate with Amish cooking -- pickled eggs, Harvard beets, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon apples. shoo fly pie, apple dumplings, fry pies, Whoopie pies, etc. (Admittedly, the traditional Amish foods in the Midwest may differ from those in Pennsylvania). The restaurant had a lot of seating and was clean, and had a cute gift shop that you passed through on the way in and out. Our server was sufficiently attentive. Parking was free and plentiful. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet was $16.99 per person; drinks not included.

Parking is plenty. But this place is busy on Fridays. It is highly revered by the community and they love the all you can eat fish nights on Fridays! Tonight I got an order of onion rings as an appetizer. These came with a choice of zesty sauce or ranch. The batter on the rings was thin but very well seasoned. These baby's were delicious! The server got these right out of the fryer and they were hot. The dipping sauces were a great addition and bother were very tasty and compliments the rings. My entree was a hand breaded tenderloin. Again, the breading was well seasoned and the tenderloin was a good thickness. It came with all the trimmings which were fresh. One thing to note was the lettuce was cold and crisp...this is a huge plus with me. The side dish for the tenderloin were potato slabs. These slabs were like a fried potato thickness but were very lightly breaded. I'd not had anything like these before. I wasn't a real fan of these things but they were different. Just not my thing. I think they have a way to go to get a 5th star from me but it is a very solid 4 stars. I can't wait to go back and try their burger. Over all this place didn't disappoint. It was a great find which I will revisit soon.
