We had a terrible waitress the first time who left all the plates to pile up. No refills on anything. It wasn't until the end the manager realized what a complete mess the table was, with stacks of dirty dishes piled up. He apologized so we gave the restaurant another chance. Our second experience was worse. Our server was very awkward and made way too much conversation when it was clear we didn't want to talk all night. She got our order wrong after I repeated it clearly twice. She said the thin crust had 4 slices. Same thing our last waitress did. It has 6 slices. We were given a wrong pizza and when we acknowledged it she got very defensive. Instead of taking it she left it for the entirety of the meal, probably hoping we'd eat it and she wouldn't have to find a manager. Her tone at the end was snippy, condescending, rude. The manager didn't come to the table even though they knew something was wrong. This was around 4:30 on a weekday in a nearly empty restaurant and I watched him walk around the entire time doing next to nothing. I will go once in awhile for carryout but will never dine in at this careless and unprofessional location again.

It all starts with the owner. I love when I'm in a restaurant and the owner takes pride in the details that make their products stand out and is excited to share them with you. That's what happened here. Some of those details include 1) Canadian style pepperoni. Far lower fat content that typical pepperoni and shredded. This was great. A big win 2) Portion size, here every size is approximately 2" bigger that comparable size at other restaurants 3) The ovens, no heated conveyor belt here. this is a legit stone oven, high temp pizza oven that bakes a great pie. I couldn't wait to get home to try the pizza. At the first bite I was in love. The crust had a nice crispy bottom while maintaining a soft, pillowy, chewy taste on top. The sauce was silky smooth and had a little spiciness to it. All the meats were incredibly tasty as well. The shredded pepperoni was the standout though. I also really appreciate the fact that they offered flavored crust. I got garlic butter and it was like having bonus a breadstick with each slice. My wife got a Margherita pizza and loved hers as well. To top it all off, the breadsticks were fantastic too. If good food wasn't enough, the prices were very reasonable, a huge advantage that A Slice of Rome has over another newish local pizza place I recently reviewed. This may be my new go to pizzeria.
