Have been to Marco Pierre Whites place, The Chequers a couple of times now. Despite it being part of The great Marco Pierre White's stable it is not fine dining, but that's not what it is trying to do. However, very good, well-cooked food in a nice dining environment is what it does well. Don't make the mistake of thinking Marco Pierre White is in the kitchen on the stove! Anyhow, good food well cooked, helpful staff all in all fine. I'd describe it as a posh pub and that's not meant to be rude, that's the kind of level I think it is. Mind you still kicks the arse out of many restaurants that would like to be only half as good.
I look at what I pay and what's on my plate. I think wheelers have got it pretty much on the money. Fresh food not bought in rubbish. Won't bore anyone with the detail of what we ate because that frankly is always a personal choice. However I think you could confidently go there, and entertain guests knowing it was all going to be pretty much bang on the money.
We also stayed over night. Modestly priced room, smart clean well furnished modern all in all great. A lot of Hotels charging far more could learn a lesson or two that's for sure.
So. all balanced up, great value for money, good food, give it a shot don't think you would be disappointed. read more
