Now, that being said, for breakfast, we wanted to keep it light because we would be traveling later that afternoon and didn't want to feel heavy making our way to the airport. It was also Easter Sunday, so most places were closed. Easter is a nationally recognized holiday in parts of Europe, so it's treated much like Thanksgiving or Christmas and most stores were closed. Both factors limited our options, but thankfully this coffee shop was open for business. It was located around the corner from where we were staying, so it was really convenient. They offered an array of pastries and coffee options. We ordered the croissant, fruit tart, blueberry & cream cheese muffin. We also ordered a latte complete with latte art! I think of all the pastries, the croissant was my personal favorite. It was flaky & tasted fresh (not sitting out all day). Although there are many other coffee options in the area, this one is worth trying!

The cafe was very bright and many people were sitting and enjoying their lunch. The space is a bit small and narrow, but they have done a good job of spacing the tables, and most tables are long and you share with others. The staff spoke English and was very nice. You can order to take away or sit down and review a menu and order from the table. There are daily fresh specials to chose from, and I chose the jambon cru + hummus wrap with carrot soup for only 16 CHF. I also tried one of their home made ice teas which was fantastic. I was reading a pamphlet while I waited for my food, and they pride themselves in using organic and local products as much as possible. They also sell many of the items that they use (Jam, hazelnut spread, loaves of bread, etc). The food was fresh and tasty. I loved that they had fresh ground pepper and salt. I was enjoying my time here and decided to choose one of the many fresh yummy fruit tarts - Pear and Chocolate to go with an espresso. The espresso came with a small pitcher of fresh warmed milk. While the coffee itself wasn't the greatest, a bit of fresh brown sugar and the warm milk helped that along. Next time I will need to try some of their tea, which I later noticed everyone seemed to be getting.

CHOU - inside of the Black Sesame & Caramel Buree Sale Chou (2,80 each)

I found this place through a Time Out article I read on the best cafe's in Geneva, and I am so…read morehappy I decided to stop by during my stay. It's a cute, hip. chic cafe that serves, well, chou pastries! They have your typical cream puffs with different flavors, and savory eclairs, which I found very surprising! They also have cute little chouquettes and other viennoiseries. I got the Caramel Buree Sale and Black Sesame chou (2,80 each), and the Chèvre Frais (fresh goat cheese) savory eclair (5,50). All of them were presented beautifully, and WOW. If I had all the money in the world, I might spend all of it on these chou pastries!! the Caramel Buree Sale was the perfect sweetness - just a little bit salty and very very rich and smooth caramel. The Black Sesame was also so amazing. Much sweeter than the Caramel, but it was so creamy and the black sesame flavor was very prominent. The savor eclair was also so devine! the goat cheese paired very well with the artichoke, and the carrots and pomegranate made a nice addition to it. The chou pastry itself was just amazing, and not sweetened, which made it ideal for both the sweet and the savory. So buttery, slightly crisp (but not crispy, if you know what I mean) on the outside and soft (but not mushy) on the inside. I also got two chouquettes (,50 each) for the road because my experience with the first three items were just so darn good. Little did I know that they would barely last 10 seconds, because they were so. frickin. good. I got the plain sugar and chocolate chouquette (they also have an almond flavor), and as i took my first bite of the plain sugar one, I literally said "holy hell" out loud because i was so startled at how good it was. It was light and airy, but also just a little creamy inside. The chocolate one was just as good as the sugar one. I think I easily could have devoured a dozen and not feel the slightest bit guilty. If I lived in Geneva, you'd bet everything that I would be a frequent customer, especially because they rotate their chou flavors constantly, so you'd always get to try a new flavor! The staff was also very kind. For the majority of the time I was there, it was just one girl hustling the floor, and yet she took the time to take my photo when I asked her.

We got there after the morning/early afternoon rush on a Saturday so many of the options were sold out. What remained was good (small savory eclair-type sandwiches that were interesting - most seemed to have Mediterranean-type seasonings/ingredients so a little more interesting and tasty than what you'd find at some traditional boulangerie/cafe). Worth stopping by if you're in that part of the city.
