This is a trifecta QD: QD dairy and baked goods, laundry, and gas! It's also in on a convenient…read morecorner with quite a bit of parking. This location carries all the usual suspects for a solid QD: all of their branded dairy products, including a huge selection of to-go ice cream; branded white and wheat bread and buns; good selection of typical convenience items (soda, beer, wine, water, chips, candy, etc.); fresh QD donuts, rolls, cookies, and brownies; and hand dipped ice cream. Adding the gas pumps and laundromat rounds it out and maintains traffic, which keeps everything fresh. The laundry area is pretty large and easy to get in and out of. There are multiple sizes of washers and dryers for convenience, but nothing too fancy. The store also carries laundry products that are slightly better priced than a typical laundromat. The gas pumps are self-service and fairly standard with a competitive price. There aren't a huge number of pumps, only six or eight, since this location is on a corner, it moves pretty quickly with the easy in-an-out set up. The staff at this QD is on the ball. They're watching what's going on (probably for theft) and so they tend to be ready when you land at the counter. They know their products and tend to be quick and friendly. You can end up with a line for hand dipped ice cream because there are several apartment complexes and a neighborhood within walking distance, but if you don't want to be a glutton by taking home a whole half-gallon of ice cream the line is worth the wait. Insofar as ice cream, regular flavors like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, of course, but also butter pecan, southern butter pecan (with pralines), caramel pecan, Michigan cherry, and a bunch of other combinations. Though not actual ice cream, QD makes a solid orange sherbet. This is good ice cream. It's not at all fancy-pants. It's the kind of ice cream you want for comfort, or after a hot evening soft ball game, maybe a post-soccer celebration with your kids, with your birthday cake and candles. The baked good area of this store is fairly large and tends to have a good, fresh selection throughout the day. For the best and freshest donut selection, try the store at 500 East Saginaw (between Cedar and Larch). If you are used to standard store bought bread, you cannot go wrong with their white or wheat loaves or buns. They are of good quality and price. I go out of my way for the donuts, though, their selection of iced cinnamon rolls is large, but my particular favorites are the sour cream glazed, blueberry, and peanut coated. The donuts are fresh, just the right amount of cake, and delicious. Rounding out QD's own product line isn't too much special, but it's more than enough for standard corner and neighborhood store fare. I was happy to see this location carrying a bit more craft and local beer and hard cider than I am used to. It's a good idea as they are in prime off campus housing for MSU students, and it was a pleasant surprise. (Don't forget that all QD ATMs are by MSU Federal Credit Union, so fee free, if you have an account.) QD is a Lansing institution. If you're in the area, swing by one. Of course, some are bigger and better than others, but all will give you a flavor of Lansing.

    Meijer Express Gas Station

    Meijer Express Gas Station

As part of renovations for the entire Meijer property - which opened while LBJ was still president…read more(1967), Meijer simply up and built a new station on a different spot on their property. The Meijer fuel station was previously right next to the 5/3 bank branch. Newer pumps were put in, and the new station is at a much more prominent spot on the property with easy access. When the new station opened on September 8th, 2014, I was the first E85 customer. Because the previous store carried kerosene but not E85 - and the new store carries E85 but not kerosene - a glitch was handed down from corporate in pricing. The first price posted for E85 was $3.56, while 87 regular was priced at $3.56 as well. I wasn't happy about this. The dad and I spoke up about it, and the district manager insisted on making it right. He had one of the employees call the West Saginaw Highway store to get their E85 price so that he could match it. The district manager then insisted my dad and I each take a coffee and a pastry. I've had good customer service inside, so it's hard for me to give it a lower star rating. The reason I would be inclined to do so is because there is only one E85 pump - two sides. Both sides are often taken by drivers getting gasoline. So while anyone can just stroll in and fill with gasoline, I have to sit there and wait. Plus, the E85 price is one of the higher in the area, so I typically face the problem of waiting for inconsiderate drivers elsewhere. That said, the inside is about what you'd expect from a Meijer fuel station. Restrooms are clean, and supplies ranging from automotive needs to soda and candy are inside.

From the owner: Meijer Express is more than a gas station. In addition to quality gasoline and premium fuel, Meijer…read moreExpress has cold drinks, fresh hot coffee and donuts, snacks, lottery tickets, an ATM and much more.
