i wish i could do less than 1 star. we WERE a client for about a year and a half (ever since we lived in the area). This facility seems to host a handful of doctors however the one I saw the most (always at random) was Dr.Mara. I'm pretty sure unless you asked for a specific doctor you just got who was available. At the time we became a client our pets were somewhat low maintenance, needing normal shots, glands, nails and antibiotics here and there but I was never overly impressed with the demeanor of Dr.Mara. the techs were fine pretty standard. I searched for a new vet numerous times but no one was/is accepting new patients in like a 25miles radius. anyway fast forward to when my dog got diagnosed with bone cancer and only about 8 days later he suffered a leg/ankle fracture and i needed urgent assistance. they advised i'd have to call next day for a same day apt so i agreed, however i got a return call minutes later stating the doc looked at our record and decided to see us but informed us that if the leg was in fact broke he'd basically insist on putting him down. My dog is 13 and PETRIFIED of the vet, shakes and tries to leave etc so i never had any intention of putting him down in a vet's office but i needed confirmation of the fracture and perhaps a pain med while we organized an at home euthanization. we arrived and they brought in a " community" blanket in which i can only assume they planned to use to euthanize him on, then the doc came in for all of 90 seconds touched his leg and said yup its broken he'll have to be put down but i have another dog waiting so i'll be back later (he never did). of course my family was emotional to begin with and we were appalled by his lack of compassion and basically told the tech we wanted to leave and asked to receive the pain med which they said would last 24hours, she administered the medicine and then we left and we started making calls. we finally found someone to come to our house the next morning. Just a few days later we got an email from Central Animal Care stating they no longer wanted us as a client and that I'd need to find care for my cat. I called to ask why and they said that Dr.Mara was appalled at our choice to leave with our dog which basically meant he thought i was a bad pet owner and didn't want us as clients. I saw red!!! Perhaps if they had called to follow up even 12hours later they'd have learned I put him down in a stress free comfortable environment of our home. We paid a very large amount of money ( not that we cared) but I can only come to the conclusion that the only reason they called us back after our initial call was that he knew that because my dog had cancer and a fracture that he could charge us for the urgent visit AND the in office euthanization so my assumption is that he was pissed we left with our pet of 13yrs and he didnt get his money but instead insulted us at an already very hard time. the Vet who assisted us at home sent a card and called to ask how we were and Central Animal Care did neither. in the whole 13yrs of owning a dog i've never had such a horrible experience with a vet. My advice to you is, if you love your pet go anywhere else but if you must go here please ask for any doctor but him. Thank you and don't forget to hug your pets *** read more
