Seneca indians had a village in this area.

Maplewood Rose garden is definitely a monumental place in Rochester. And over and above the gardens, there is history here also. The underground railroad had a pickup station here for slaves. The lawns and gardens are well manicured with a large variety of Roses. 1 thing that stood out to me was that being the last week in June I would have thought there would have been more Roses in greater bloom. In years previous I've seen it in a much fuller bloom. But it still was an enjoyable visit, and summer has only just begun. The caretakers do an excellent job in the garden care and the lawns are well maintained.

What an underrated gem in Rochester! When my partner and I went to explore the Rose Garden and Lower Falls last summer, we were shocked by how empty the entire park and garden seemed to be. The roses were in stunning bloom and gave us some serious inspiration on landscaping, as the flowers are all labeled for your perusal. They have an in-ground irrigation system that keeps the flowers healthy, which is a great addition. I had to knock it down a star as the day we were there, there also seemed to be some kind of biker show? Unofficial bike show? There were folks on motorcycles doing terrifying (and loud) maneuvers that took away from our experience and ability to enjoy the garden in its full glory. I know this is not the garden's fault (LOL), but just beware that it isn't a secluded, quite, contemplative garden. It is right in the thick of a busy and bustling intersection/part of town. You MUST make a whole day of it and explore Lower Falls Park while you're there. My partner and I decided to go ahead and tack on the Genny Brewhouse after a long hike to really make it a Rochester outdoorsy day. It was an awesome afternoon that we're hoping to recreate as soon as the weather breaks.

A cute little place with many varieties of roses. Simply gorgeous. I spent almost an hour just browsing every kind. Some varieties smell sooooo fragrant. A nice backdrop for photoshoots, too! Will come back :)

What a lovely little surprise. I highly recommend stopping for an hour or so at Rochester's Maplewood Rose Garden, replete with hundreds and hundreds of beautiful blooms in every color and scent. A peaceful place to go for a romantic stroll.

It's really cool to have a rose garden with over 3000 rose bushes in the middle of the city. And it's next to the Genesee Riverway Trail, with views of two waterfalls. There's a big parking lot from the church across the street. Peak bloom time is in June, when there is an annual celebration with rose workshops and vendors. It's a perfect spot to take your date. There are some benches for you to sit.

Beautiful hot pink roses almost past their prime

Such an amazing time that exceeded my expectations…read more Again this was a random activity that I thought would be fun and warm and would pass time during my trip to Rochester. There is a $4 admission fee to enter and they take card and cash. I love turtles and was so happy to be greeted by 2 aquariums at the entrance with turtles in them. I was definitely surprised as we walked through the conservatory and saw both turtles and tortoises. It was a great surprise. The traffic of visitors seemed to ebb and flow but there's no guide and it's not timed so you can go at your own pace and even circle back as we did. There are also other small animals such as quail and chipmunks that you'll see walking through as well. It was a good reminder for me to find the beauty even in the midst of chaos, you just have to stop and look. If you just need a soft place to clear your mind and reset, this would be a great start.

The humidity is perfect for growing and maintaining plants and cactus.. loved the flowering cactus! Poinsettias are beautiful, and set up like a tree. Keep your eyes open for the animals throughout, careful where you step! Turtles and quails. Prices are so low, $4 for adults. Kids under 5 I believe are free... seasons passes available.
