Such an amazing time that exceeded my expectations. Again this was a random activity that I thought would be fun and warm and would pass time during my trip to Rochester. There is a $4 admission fee to enter and they take card and cash. I love turtles and was so happy to be greeted by 2 aquariums at the entrance with turtles in them. I was definitely surprised as we walked through the conservatory and saw both turtles and tortoises. It was a great surprise. The traffic of visitors seemed to ebb and flow but there's no guide and it's not timed so you can go at your own pace and even circle back as we did. There are also other small animals such as quail and chipmunks that you'll see walking through as well. It was a good reminder for me to find the beauty even in the midst of chaos, you just have to stop and look. If you just need a soft place to clear your mind and reset, this would be a great start. read more

What a secret gem located in Highland Park, I'm embarrassed to say this was my first visit. Limited street parking, very busy when people are sledding on the area hills too. Named after Alexander B Lamberton who was the president of the parks board from 1902-1915. Constructed I 1911. Lovely warm escape.. especially In our cold winters. The humidity is perfect for growing and maintaining plants and cactus.. loved the flowering cactus! Poinsettias are beautiful, and set up like a tree. Keep your eyes open for the animals throughout, careful where you step! Turtles and quails. Prices are so low, $4 for adults. Kids under 5 I believe are free... seasons passes available. Was out in Rochester visiting and made my way to The Lamberton Conservatory, which is located in Highland Park. Entrance fee is so worth it too, at this visit, it was $4 for adults. I didn't have kids with me so I can't confrim their price. Once inside, you are surrounded by some amazing plants and flowers, and each area has live animals too. There is even a turtle who will wait for the door to open because he has beef with the other turtle in the room, and he stays ready. The Lamberton Conservatory is located in Highland Park and is a must see attraction in the area. We stopped in for the Holiday Show, which featured poinsettias and lights throughout the building. The Holiday Show came with extended hours, allowing us to visit after dark and enhanced the light effects. The entry fee is affordable $3.00 for adults; $2.00 for youth and seniors. A great location to wander about and take in the atmosphere provided by all the unique plants and animals. Throughout the conservatory you will find quails and turtles, providing us an opportunity to observe them in their habitats. We enjoyed taking our time strolling through and stopping for photos. I've been to Rochester plenty of times, and the Lilac Festival and never knew this place was here. First of wow, this place was beyond reasonable for all $ 3 for adults, they even had holiday light display, and poinsettias displayed. On a side note, what was unique were the turtles and tortoises that call Lamberton Conservatory home. Its a short walk around, loved the variety of plants, color, and am a plant lover. Great place to warm up in the winter! Admission was only $3 and it is WELL worth every penny. Lots of beautiful plants, not a ton of blooms right now but there is a large display of poinsettia and Christmas lights for the holidays. The turtles, tortoises and quail running around were fun to try and spot. Even our 16 and 13 year old had a nice time and didn't complain, which was a miracle. Definitely recommend and will go back again next time we need a midwinter warmup. read more

I treated myself to a trip to Lamberton for my birthday this year back in November, and honestly what a treat it was! I was SO embarrassed I had never been to this gorgeous ROC staple, and my trip lived up to the hype. The staff was so friendly, COVID precautions were followed, and the price is right. Next time I go back I am 100% grabbing myself a membership and enjoying this spot year round. I know all of my friends with kids absolutely love it here, since it is a nice warm escape during the winter months. There are SO many succulent varieties and a even some wildlife to spectate. Be careful where you walk as turtles and ducks have free roam of the conservatory, which makes it both beautiful and, if you're me, a little scary LOL. Take all of the photos and take a seat to enjoy the moment. I went when it wasn't too busy and would recommend trying to find an off time if at all possible. We are so lucky to have this gem in ROC! When in need to escape, this is the place I run to. A little Conservatory at Highland Park.an oasis in the middle of the city. Open year round, except Christmas Day, it showcases seasonal plants as well as permanent ones, like the Cacti. The place has wondering quails and turtles. One has to be careful not to step on them. It also has an elusive duck. Plenty of benches to sit, relax, soak in the beauty surrounding your senses. I have visited at different times of the year. All equally beautiful. They should rename this place the Lamberton Conservatory of Turtles. Seriously, baby turtles, old turtles, tortoises on every surface, it's a glorious invasion of my favorite reptile. We lost count at 40? There is also a duck! The Cacti area is pretty spectacular. A lot of beautiful updates like a gorgeous natural arbor and a rustic log swing. Wow! I'd known this conservatory existed for a while now, but only just got around to visiting today. It instantly transports you to warmer climates and happy vibes, and for only $3. You could walk the whole thing relatively quickly, but with so many benches and cute critters (like quail and turtles) wandering around, it's easy to take your time. It's organized by climate/region, so as you walk through you're always seeing new things. It's worth a visit literally anytime, but especially in the winter. The Lamberton Conservatory is part of Highland Park but really deserves its own Yelp page for its conservation efforts and more than 100 year history in Rochester. Any conservation effort that can provide a lush, tropical environment for a variety of plants through 96 snowy Rochester winters gets 5 shiny stars from me. The LC was orignally built in 1911. Maybe you just did the math, and realized that 96 winters after 1911 is 2007. That's when the conservatory was renovated. All of the steel framing was replaced with galvanized steel to better withstand the temperatures and humidity of this tropical oasis. Also, nearly 80% of the glass at that time was original to the structure and was subsequently replaced with almost 1k panes of new glass. Everything was restored to preserve as much of the original structure as possible. Inside you'll find a variety of plants, cacti, trees and plenty of chigger-free Spanish moss. There are several places to sit and enjoy the sounds of quail and a mini waterfall. Incidentally, if you've never heard a quail before, you may hear an exotic shrill call from a mature male or a frog-like croon from a mature female when you've triggered their neighborhood watch program or when they are simply making plans for date night. Find an empty bench, get comfy and let the roaming turtles, and fish ponds inspire you to Yelp about that killer sushi you had for lunch. It's not huge, maybe 1,800 sq ft, but it's a great way to enjoy a mini tropical biodome in Rochester. The admission price of $3 isn't huge either, and there are discounts for students, seniors, and members of the military. It's worth it if you need to hide from your fan club while working on that epic Yelp review. read more

Lamberton Conservatory is a true gem within the Greater Rochester Area. From the outside the building is truly unassuming and so it's not so crazy that I'd never been inside the conservatory until about a year ago. However, I'm glad that hubby and I took a visit to check out the scene. If you're anything like me, make sure that your phone is charged because you won't be able to resist taking photographs of all the beautiful plants. The price remains at $3, and hours are from 10 a.m-4 p.m. They also let people get married inside, if you are looking for something intimate. In the middle of the conservatory you can pop outside and check out the coy fish. There are lots of little quails, ducks, tortoises, and turtles inside. Not only they show greenery plants, but they have turtles and quails among the greenhouse. It made the whole experience​ twice as better as we got further and further to the end. I was here for a photo shoot last year during the winter. I had no problem finding parking and the ticket was only a dollar. There are incredible tropical plants and cute turtles. Everything looked lush and shiny with the noon sunlight. It is not a big place and you could easily walk the whole thing in under 15 minutes. But we spent an hour taking photos.
