    18th green looking nice!

Place has made vast improvements over the last couple years after hiring a new superintendent... it's nothing like how the course was and only continues to get better. Definitely worth a shot, or 72ish ;)

Not a course for walkers. This is another local course that uses the "pace of play" excuse to nickel and dime patrons into paying for a cart when they'd prefer to be walking (and would play far more quickly if they could walk directly to their shots). It may be fine for beginners or weekend golfers, but the upkeep and overall condition of the course falls far short of acceptable for seasoned players who play the ball down and expect better. I would not recommend this place when there are plenty of better alternatives nearby.

I played here on May 12th. The course was in fine condition for this time of year with many maintenance workers swarming all over the course. The greens were being rolled and are growing in with the recent warmth. There are a few greens with brown spots, but the course is recovering from what the pro shop said was a "crane fly" infestation that attacked the greens and fairways in 2013. The fairways are green and lush, except as noted above. The tee boxes need work, most especially the women's boxes that are a little bit bare or unkept... I suppose the staff has a plan to get greens and fairways in order before working on the tee areas. You need to think your way around this course. There is plenty of holes to use a driver and others where it's best to use less club. There are lots of wetlands and ponds throughout the course that are best avoided. I went into the pro shop and to say the course was fun. I was greeted by friendly smiles and "thank you's". It looks like there are a few reviews here that deliberately want to sandbag the course. I'm not sure of the reasons, but comments such as "worst ever" are a damn joke. Having a crappy round is no reason to slam the golf course! I look forward to going back soon.

    Fore!

The course has benefitted greatly since the arrival of superintendent Jeff James. He and his team have made NECC an excellent place to play golf. A fun and definitely challenging golf course in top condition.

I had not played here in over 15 years, and I'm here to tell you that this course is a true challenge of your golfing abilities! Took us 4.5 hours to finish, and I was left humbled. We played from the whites, course total distance is 5,867 feet. The course was in great shape, lush and green, general maintenance being performed throughout. Tight / narrow fairways, lots of well placed traps, lots of water / marsh areas, place your shots carefully! And Yes, proper dress is required! Don't show up here with your sleeveless patriots tee shirt and jean shorts, you'll be turned away (I can't believe people complain about this requirement). They do have a small driving range / practice area, you'll need to buy a token at the pro shop and drive a cart down to the area (5 minute walk, but driving down with your clubs on a cart is the way to go). To summarize, this is a well managed, well maintained course that is on the more difficult side (especially for high handicap players like myself).

I've been playing there over 10 years and the course is always in excellent condition. The greens are always nice, but they don't run too fast. Tees and fairways are the best part of the course, always pristine. They have a grass range and putting green, but no practice sand trap. As one other reviewer noted, some of the fairways run parallel to each other so it is true, you have to be careful of the errant tee shot from other holes. Trees do line each hole so I believe this will be less of an issue as the course matures. On the positive side, you lose less golf balls here than any New England course I know. Toughest hole, #6, a long slight dogleg left. By the way, another reviewer, Matthew, gave the course 1 star for not letting his girlfriend tag along. No golf course does this, you get 1 star for being a bad reviewer, especially when you consider the nature of the course set up and the risks. The course can be slow on weekends and late afternoons because of high volume of play and a high level of beginners on the course so be aware of that. This is the perfect place to come if you are looking to learn the game, not lose too many golf balls, and enjoy great conditions.
