Was in town and noticed a nice used tele on the website when looking up shops to check out. Went in, they let me play it til I was decided. Negotiated a bit, they were patient and tolerant of my low ball offers. Went back to hotel and slept on it. Came back next day a got a nice guitar for a fair and decent price from nice people. This is an update 3/2024 on Maple Street Guitars. They are a fantastic family owned guitar and music store. They specialize in more high-end guitars but do have some entry level guitars. The luthiers are absolutely the best Recently I worked with Lindsay to sell 2 guitars, a Fender USA 50th Anniversary Placard Strat with case and a Takamine EAN40C with case. Both were in like new condition, but they did have to take care of a small ding/issue from the wrong guitar stand on Strat. They did so and it was like new! The guitars sold as expected and the paperwork and payments from Maple were flawless! Truly a class act. I will now include our prior review from 2014: This is truly a great family owned GUITAR store.. The box stores do not compare in any way shape or form. Everyone is truly knowledgeable about all sorts of guitars and amplifiers. I drive over 35 miles and will continue to do so. I am a long time "senior student" and Lindsay has taught me many things in all my visits. I bought an Eastman T386, Fishman Mini Acoustic 60, and Roland Cube 40 GX from them along with strings, etc. I bring all my guitars to them for proper set ups and they play belter than ever. I got my first guitar from here and after playing for a few years and going into different shops I'll say this is my favorite shop I've been in. The sales staff here is very helpful and will let you try out whatever you want. I've bought three guitars here (two new and one used) and an amp. The repair shop is very knowledgeable and has done all my guitar work, including work on my banjo. They are not out to rake you over the coals on price either, and have always done great work. Yeah i tried to sell my hofner violin bass but they turned me down because the neck of the guitar wasnt adjustable enough. Fair reason to me since they sell good quality guitars. I had just bought a fender bass from another store and they looked it over and did a great set up. Had the strings changed too! Highly recommend them. read more

Knowledgeable and professional staff.. However, not very open or interested if you look like you don't have a lot of cash.. yes, "look like".. Won't allow you pick up anything you aren't certain you're going to buy. "If you don't plan on buying it, it's not worth letting you touch." Their selection is nice.. visually.. but I have no idea what any of their products sound or feel like.. Do your research at home.. not in the store.. at least not in this store. Majority of their selection is high end models.. Nothing less than $700.. You can imagine why they're hesitant on letting anyone touch things. Understandable. String prices are alright.. and their external hardware is nice. This is more of a museum than an actual store.. Yet, it technically remains a business. Think of this as a high end art museum.. that sells instruments. Don't come here unless you've done your research on exactly what you want or know that you're going to spend cash on high-end quality instruments. Not a family friendly establishment. They have serviced a number of my instruments, including two Brazilian viola caipiras, a Bolivian ronroco, and a classical guitar. Nine years ago I purchased a classical guitar from them, which is a real beauty with golden sounds. Like another reviewer, I was able to sound out a number of guitars in a soundproof room. I stopped by Maple Street last week (I think it was last week... all of these days are running together, lol) to get out of the Airbnb on a rainy day and pick up some cleaning products for my guitar. I immediately was warmly greeted by Lindsay whom I explained that I was on a budget, but looking to freshen up my (sadly) neglected GS Mini. He helped me choose quality products within my price range, explained how they work, how to use them, and even hooked me up with some steel wool on the house! He also went the extra mile sharing with me that if I got overwhelmed, to check out the Maple Street YouTube channel for an instructional video. While perusing the store, I was greeted by the shop dogs (or managers?) Roxy and Hopper, and though they weren't the most helpful when it came to choosing products, they did show off some tricks, which I compensated well in pets and scratches. I also had the pleasure of meeting Brandon in the repair room, who was very personable, down-to-earth, warm, and like-minded :) Well, I went back to the Airbnb, and instead of cleaning my guitar, I talked my brother (the more talented guitarist in the family, lol) into joining me at Maple Street. So, I showed up AGAIN for the second time, and while my brother noodled around on their beautiful selection of guitars, I got to have a wonderful conversation with more of the MS team (including Mark!... I think his name was Mark... I'm very bad with names... Who was kind, beautifully vulnerable, and supportive). After returning back to the Airbnb, I put on the MS how-to video and got to work. My Taylor is now fresh and clean which gave me the motivation I needed to pick it back up after a few years of not playing. Since then, I've taught myself harmonics and have been practicing fingerpicking daily. I'm still not exactly Justin Johnson's status (look him up on YouTube!), but perhaps one day, haha. I should also note that I'm the type of person that's good with faces, but bad with names. By my goldfish-memory remembering, just some of these sweet souls' names should tell you tenfold how much the connections meant to me by stopping by Maple Street. My family has been going through a tough time, so the conversations and education were greatly appreciated and a welcome distraction. I did my research on the ukulele I wanted to buy and I found that Maple Street has the one that I wanted. Also I contacted the store via email to ask whether the instrument that I wanted was still available. Chris replied promptly. I also was lucky that my travel plan allowed me to visit Atlanta and the store. After I finished my business, I went to the store. Don't let the front fool you -- open the door to see it yourself. There are hundreds of guitars nicely displayed and some other string instruments hanging from the ceiling. When I walked in, the salesperson was helping another customer so I just walked around the store to see what they had to offer. After a few mins, I was greeted by Lindsay and I told him what I was looking for. He grabbed me the ukulele I had my eye on. He then let me play with the instrument and walked away. He strummed a few chords and looked at the instrument without any interruption, which I really appreciated. Then he came back and asked me to try other sizes to compare the sound and the feel for the instruments. As Lindsay and I were talking about the instruments, he also found out that I came to visit ALT so he offered to provide some other recommendations for things to do and see around town. Also he told me that the store can ship the instruments by mail if I chose to not take the instrument with me. When I checked out the instrument, Chris came out to help and I had the opportunity to meet Chris, who responded to my email, in person. We shook hands and exchanged a few pleasantries. He also helped check the instrument before it left the store. The salesperson, whom I forgot the name (sorry), helped me with the receipt and packaging. Hands down the best guitar shop I've ever been to. The staff are all extremely knowledgeable, kind, and clearly passionate about what they're doing. I needed some fairly involved work done on my #1 guitar and wanted to make sure it was done right, so after reading all the glowing reviews of Maple Street, I decided to make the two and a half hour trip to see what the hubbub was all about. I was not only not disappointed, I was surprised by how great the place was - the reviews did not do it justice. The tech I discussed my issues with was beyond knowledgeable and extremely attentive to every detail of both what I was describing and how the guitar itself played and took notes down on all of it; needless to say, I felt confident leaving my prized guitar with them. They finished the work more than a week ahead of the quoted date and I was back on the road to check out the result. It was immaculate. Everything I had expressed had obviously been taken to heart as the guitar played perfectly, as if it had been made just for me. And the work didn't stop there. Every facet of the instrument had been improved: hardware was cleaned and polished including the string ferules, same with the finish, spinny strap button screws secured, pickup covers shined, the bridge plate had been cleaned under the saddles, etc. They even went so far as to buff out the surface of the pickguard and brought it back to a glassy, store-front new smooth shine. Jake, the luthier who did the repairs, clearly takes great pride in his work and he absolutely should. It is without doubt the best I've ever had done on any instrument I've owned. And he's a super nice guy that's more than happy to chat and nerd out about guitars, to boot. It felt like having an old friend work on my guitar. I could go on and on, and already have, about how impressed I was with the place. But, I'll just finish here by saying that Maple Street is the only place I will take my guitars for work now, regardless of the 5 hour round trip. They care about guitars, they care about what they do, and they care about their customers. read more

Great staff and very VERY good techs. I had a Epiphone Les Paul for years that I finally broke down and attempted to put in some new pickups. Tried to do it myself and failed due to the previous pickup owners shorting out the wires. Jacob at Maple Street checked out the electronics, fixed the wiring, put in new volume pots and did a complete setup along with some fret crowning. My guitar never sounded - or played - so good. This is a shop I completely trust with my gear and will be bringing all my stuff to them for any needed work. The store is very nice. All high end, beautiful guitars. If your looking for something new, they are very knowledgeable and helpful, allowing you to try anything you want and making recommendations along the way. I take guitar class here from Sam McPherson and it's the best present I've ever given myself! I started learning in May and can't wait every night to get home and pick up my instrument and play. Being in my 50's and never having picked up a string instrument before I wasn't sure how difficult the classes would be, especially since I also struggle with arthritis in my hands. I'm so glad I decided to go for it! My hands feel so much stronger for the exercise! Thanks to Sams method of teaching I am learning something new each week and playing music, not just chords and notes. So much fun! I wish there were more guitar shops like Maple Street Guitars. I was in town on business a few years back and stopped in to burn some time before my flight home. What wonderful customer service. We talked guitars and amps for a good hour with no pressure to buy or to hit the road. They ended up making an offer I couldn't refuse on an Eastman (which I'd never heard of before my visit) and even offered to ship it home for me for free. Without a doubt, 5 stars. This place is an Atlanta institution, but I never visited until I needed repairs to an older ukulele. Jake listened carefully to my needs, looked at the instrument and gave me a reasonable estimate of cost and timeline. Although someone else was waiting (patiently) in line behind me, he took his time with me. When the repairs were completed and I picked up the instrument, I talked with Lindsey (co-owner with dad George), who was also gracious with information and advise - exceedingly knowledgeable and kind. This is the place to go for repairs to your lute instrument. Side note: I spoke with George for about 30 minutes about guitars and ukuleles, amongst other things, and he was so inviting and generous. This is easily the most unique guitar shop in Atlanta! I recently bought a Kenny Hill "New Century" nylon string guitar from these good folks. They had a number of guitars of this quality for me to choose from. The staff was not only knowledgeable but friendly and patient as well. I'm absolutely thrilled with this instrument. Great place. More on the acoustic side, but they have a healthy amount of electric guitars and amps, and a handful of pedals. I got some of the backstory from George, the owner; and his son Lindsay who also works there. They carry some name brand stuff, like Fender, G&L and PRS but after that you may or may not know all the companies there. Goodsell, Godin, Eastman and even more in the acoustic range, I didnt look. Prices seemed to be reasonable, but you wont find them as low as Guitar Center or Sam Ash. But then you also wont get the customer service. They also have an extensive repair shop on site, which is awesome, I peaked in and it could have been used to custom build guitars. Good to know theres a place in town to get quality repairs. read more

I brought my 1965 Gibson LG-1 acoustic guitar to Maple Street to have the plastic bridge, saddle and nut replaced. I had heard good things and thought I'd go in and talk with them about the work before just sending it off to Gibson. They have a guy there who has done several of the plastic bridge replacements before. (Jeff) He took me in the back and showed me with a mirror to check the condition of the bridge mounting and we discussed a plan. He suggested having him custom build a similar bridge from rosewood and secure it with a Plate mate underneath. He would also use a bone saddle and cut a new bone nut to replace the cracked plastic nut. After just one week, they called and said it was ready. When I got to the store and saw the work they had done, I was totally blown away by the custom craftmanship!. The rosewood bridge was beautiful and the guitar sounded so much better! To top it off, it only cost me around $300 for all of that custom fabrication work. If you are looking for a luthier to work on a vintage Gibson, I highly recommend Jeff at Maple Street Guitars. Not only does he do great work, it was clear that he takes real pride in keeping these vintage beauties in working condition! read more

I happened to stumble upon their website (maplestreetguitars.com) and I got into contact with one of their employees, Lindsay. Even though their store was out of the guitar I wanted, he offered to order a new one and send it directly to me. When the guitar came into the store he noticed a few small cracks in the finish, so he talked to Eastman and convinced them to send me an even better model for the same price!! You won't find a better place to buy a new guitar. I live in California, but Maple Street Guitars offered a better price and much better service than any store near me. They are flexible and responsive when you call to make an appointment. They try to make sure that they have someone who will be with you while you are browsing the store to answer any questions.
