I'm not sure why they call this store Guitar Center, because it sure doesn't give a hint that they have much more than just guitars! I needed ukulele strings because I just inherited two ukuleles from my dad who recently passed away, and I'm going to learn how to play them better. I was looking for replacement strings, including low G for a tenor ukulele. Guitar Center didn't have the strings in stock, but I could look for them at the online Guitar Center site. I did find replacement fluorocarbon strings for my new (at least new to me) soprano ukulele. If you're looking for regular musical instruments that you could play in a rock band, such as keyboards, guitars, drums, and their accessories, instrument cases, music stands, speakers and amps, you could probably find it here and at different price points. The employee that I asked for assistance in locating where the ukulele replacement strings knew exactly which aisle to walk me to, but two other employees didn't seem to want to use the register to ring up my purchase so I could leave, making me wait until a third employee walked up to ask if I was ready to check out. After I said yes, he walked to get another employee to help me. At the end of the sale transaction, the employee thanked me. I just stood there looking at him. That's when he asked, "Didn't I give you your receipt?" I replied, "Yes, but you didn't give me my strings that I just paid for." In the short time that I was at the register, the employee managed to hide the strings from himself and it took him a few seconds to find them. read more

I called the store about set-up for a Studio Bricks booth. I needed help setting up the TLM 103 mic with some of the equipment that came with the recording booth. The person, Tuesday, stated that he could do the job. I went to see him first. We didn't seem to hit it off since his suggestion was to change the DAW that I was using which I stated that I could add it as a resource. However, I needed a new shock mount that I needed as a part of the tech installation inside the booth and decided to cancel the installation 24 hours in advance until it came in which I thought would suffice. I got a retort to "Don't play games with my schedule. Please contact someone else moving forward." The don't "play games with my schedule" was enough to alert me not to have him in my home. I gave a respectable 24 hours to decline and offered to do a cancellation fee. However, as a former music educator, I don't play games with anyone. Therefore I have submitted a negative review. I've never had a problem with the sales team at Guitar Center until this point. read more

A very disappointing experience with the Atlanta location. I purchased a Tama drum set "in store" from sales clerk Jake. A family situation arose and I had to cancel the order. I went back to the store later, to possibly repurchase the same drum set and the sales clerk Jake was very unprofessional and rude. He was probably upset that I had canceled the order. He did not speak or help in any way to see what I needed. He needs help in sales etiquette. If you want to buy some drums, Jake is not your guy. Let people play instruments before they buy. Why have a brick and mortar store if you refuse to sell anything. I'll just buy online from now on. Sweetwater, Amazon or local businesses. I first went to buy a EVH Wolfgang got ran off because of an employee's attitude. Today I went to buy my grandson a drum kit again an employee told us we couldn't play while others were playing when we got there. I ended up buying my EVH Wolfgang from Amazon it was a good bit less expensive than GC. I'm shopping Sweetwater for a drum kit now. GC you've lost a reliable customer for over 40 years. The customer service at the store is abysmal. They always say that you should treat everyone with respect, no matter how much perceived value they have. I came in here looking for some simple keyboard stickers for a beginner at keyboard. I had checked on the Web first, and it said they had them in stock. I roamed around the entire store (with no one offering to help until I was exiting the store). I finally approached two employees who were standing behind a desk back by the guitar section having a personal conversation. I had to finally interrupt them to get their attention. When I asked about the stickers they both looked at me fairly dismissively said they don't know. When I told him I saw that they were available on the Internet they said well go check in the book section and one of them took me over there and then just gestured down the aisle and said they'll be somewhere over there. No one is going to be shocked to know that they were not there. I couldn't find them, and no one ever came back to help me. I ended up exiting the store, purchasing nothing. But the jokes on them, because I was also planning to come back in a couple months to purchase a high dollar item. Now I'm gonna go spend my money somewhere that the employees actually care to help customers. With online retailers eating away at brick and mortar revenue every day, every customer and their loyalty matters. read more

For a company that always seems to be in money trouble, you (GC) cannot afford to have employees on their cell phones whilst dealing with customers. As a long time participant in the active Atlanta music business, I can spend my money anywhere I choose to...but I will not continue to spend my money with people who can't address me and give their full attention to my transaction because they're on a personal call with ear buds in. Been going to Guitar Centers since the 1980s. Every single time I walk in here to buy something, the staff members are all standing around ignoring the customers and I am forced to interrupt their conversations to ask for assistance. They usually roll their eyes at me and behave as if they've been disturbed by my interruption. This store is far from customer-oriented. They're clearly on commission pay. And they just want to move you in and out as quickly as possible. They show no desire to fit you into the right instrument. They just want to sell you and have you leave. There's no real set-up guarantee like Maple Street Guitars in Buckhead offers. I have no idea why anyone shops here. There's just no reason. If there's something that Maple Street doesn't offer, then I'll buy from Sweetwater. I won't be returning here. read more

Now after speaking to TWO store reps, a store manager, some "order verification" rep and THREE customer service reps, I finally found out the reason my whole day was ruined is simply because I used a different email address than the last time i placed an order despite the fact I have no GC account. These guys are a joke, I ordered Fender T bucket, it arrived and the back of the neck varnish is splintering, and it feels very uncomfortable and the top machine head bolt is broke, and machine is leaning forward so the tune doesn't stay, I'll never from these guys again. I used to have good luck here when trading in gear and trying to make purchases below MSRP. Lately, that has not been the case. I have had much better luck on local Facebook Marketplace music exchange groups when it comes to selling and buying gear. I think the final straw for me was a nice, American made Les Paul that I purchased here having issues that I believe should've been covered under warranty. Guitar Center and Gibson felt otherwise. If I can not benefit from issues under warranty, what is the point? I can just take a gamble buying something used for a fraction of the price. The one thing I would still consider Guitar Center for is buying used gear. You benefit from a good discount as well as a return policy that should give you plenty of time to determine if there are deal-breaking issues with your instrument. I did luck out with a used, weighted electric keyboard here recently. read more

Very unorganized, wasted my time. I came in to purchase an item that was listed on their website as "available for pickup today", but when I arrived the item wasn't on the shelf. However, they did have one on display. I asked for help & was ensured that there were "three in the back". The guy came back 10 min later & told me that he was unable to "find" the item. I then asked if I could just purchase the display item. I was told no & given some bs excuse as to why. Then, they tried to upsell me & get me to finance another item that was much more expensive, as opposed to accommodating me for the inconvenience. whoa! the sassy men that work there need to accept they're failed musicians or get another job. from L.A to NYC I've never visited a GC where 5 employees huddle, talk, & ignore customers. it was one woman helping everyone. I got ignored for 20 minutes until I picked up headphone. then a guy rushes over to offer to hold them at the register. it was the weirdest vibe ever. one guy in the repair shop got pissed because I asked his co worker a question. he yelled at another employee who couldn't help me (he was low tek) then sashayed back to the repair section to continue his convo. it was a sh** show. GC needs to rehaul the hi-tek employees. they just huddle like mean girls at the register and give mean stairs when you aren't looking. read more

They are basically running a criminal enterprise. I ordered five wireless microphones with them, at a price of around $350 each, because they don't keep them in stock. This is a convenient ploy to commit mail fraud. I received only one of the five and when I called they basically told me to get bent, and that they sent all of them. The microphone that I did receive came in a box singularly and UPS only had one tracking number for the order. They STOLE $1400. Do not patronize this den of thieves. read more

This is an unfortunate store for a couple of reasons - - unfortunate because it does have potential. But it's certainly unrealized potential for the moment. I dropped in to look at digital pianos and acoustic guitars, towards the end of the day on a weekday. I was browsing for about 45 minutes, and had a couple of questions. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any answers. This, despite there being a grand total of three customers and seven members of staff at work. I say "work", but that's not what I mean. What I mean is, "taking to their friends and/or romantic partners". Evidently this Guitar Center is something of a local social hub, as was clear from the snippets of conversations I overhead while trying to find some help. But hey, it's the end of the day; relaxed and social is okay in my book. I realize this isn't the United Nations, or anything. What I didn't realize, though, was that it was I actually a kiddie playground. Let me explain that comment. From what I could tell, there were two young women visiting the store, and visiting their romantic partners and/or their children's baby-daddies, who worked at the store. These two women should, if nothing else, be congratulated on their fertility. Because between them, I couted seven offspring in total...varying in age between perhaps six and twelve. As I counted, I realized that in a few more years, they will be able to staff their very own Guitar Center. Anyway. It's always nice to see a goup of siblings having a good time, playing with one another. But its a somewhat less-nice thing to see a group of siblings also all playing... 1) drums 2) keyboards 3) guitars 4) bongos, and 5) the steel drums Now, I say they were "playing" the instruments, but that's not quite accurate. They were really more sort of banging on them with varying degrees of force, completely unsupervised by any parents or adults. Note, if you've not heard grade-schoolers bang arhythmically on bongos, drums, keyboards, guitars and steel drums in unison, it's rather hard to describe. Though I realize "in unison" probably doesn't paint the right picture. Let's just say: what the kids lacked in musical talent, they more than made up for with enthusiasm, volume and tenacity. I can only assume this sort of daily magic was par for the course at home with the two young mothers, as they showed no particular interest in the exciting musical exploits of their children, nor in fact seemingly any awareness of their actual presence in the store. The sole exception was the occasion when one of the youngsters intrrupted the conversation of one of the mothers with one of the boyfruend/fathers, at which point she made it clear, quite loudly that the child was "... 'Bbout to get his ass smacked" if he didn't "get outta (her) hair right now in a hurry" . To her credit, she did have to compete in volume with the nearby symphiby, so it's understandable the need to shout. The aforementioned kid, sensing something resembling adult supervision emerging from the void, helpfully went back to the steel drums, which he attacked with renewed ferocity, if not rhythm. Around this time, I finally caught the eye of the single Guitar Center staffer who was in fact working, and not socializing. From him, I quickly earned what I wanted to know about 12 string acoustic guitars; specifically, those with narrow fretboards and slim body profiles. He had curly dark hair and a beard, and he really knew his stuff, and was a great help. After comparison shopping a bit more, I will likely be returning to the store to order one of the guitars he recommended. So, if anyone from Guitar Center Corporate ever read this - that guy is totally awesome and worth his weight in gold. Because in addition to being knowledgeable and professional as well as seemingly able to run the entire store with no help at ALL... I suspect he will soon be the only employee at this location not burdened by increasingly large alimony and child support payments. He was the sole redeeming aspect of my recent visit to Atlanta's Guitar Center and Informal Childcare, and he was impressive from start to finish. I can't say I frequent music stores often but when Christmas arrived and I wanted to gift my husband a set of drums, my coworker (who's in a band) highly recommended a Rogue drum set. I ordered online and selected the option to pick up from this Guitar Center location. Service was great, maybe a bit slow because of all the transactions and probably because of the holiday season, but the staff was courteous! When you order online, a shipment is sent to the store. The salesperson who helped me noticed that the shipped set had a broken box so he returned it for me and since they had some Rogue sets in stock, he basically exchanged it for me and even gave me some recommendations on drum sticks. Finally, he helped me load the drum set into my car and I was on my way. The location is right off the I-85 expressway on an access road so it's easily visible from the highway. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about this place and would recommend coming here if you're looking at instruments or any other musical accessory. read more

They had a different color in stock so I dIdn't get the color I wanted but they set it up (Jack is an outstanding luthier) and Brian gave me an additional discount. About to demo some of these bass guitars to see what falls under my likings The staff was very helpful I even had a cable that In purchased in another state and they took it back for store credit! I used the credit to purchase a right angle cord for my persona Fender. I was impressed with the assistance. The stock on Basses - not the greatest Not on FRETLESS BASS GUITAR in the entire store. The one bass player that works in the store put me up on a Fender Amp that had a faint distortion built right into the amp - it was cool, but sounded like it had a 3 on it to me - The feel of the store made you want to Rock tho - grabbing a guitar was easy, a pair of drums sticks wait in the drum room to add a beat to the groove in your head. The store is a bit busy if you go in there not knowing what you want you may drift into a time warp. Best advice, grab your favorite instrument and start jamming' the rest will follow. read more

I had a great experience buying my first guitar at Guitar Center in Atlanta. It's intimidating buying your first instrument, especially before receiving any lessons, and I've been spoken down to at other stores for not really knowing much about instruments in general, so to be honest, I was prepared to be irritated and insulted. Instead, I was warmly greeted as I entered, and again as I made my way back to the guitar accessories. No one bugged me too much, just asked if I needed help finding anything (which I eventually did), and the nice guy that helped me pick out a gig bag didn't even laugh at me when I asked if it mattered if I got an electric or acoustic bag (I'm a beginner, okay?) . As for the store itself, the flow was sort of confusing to me, but I think I'm just used to the set-up of the one back home. It took me a minute to find a guitar stand; I thought they'd be by the bags and straps and guitars, but all the stands were near the drums. Seemed out of place, but I still found them so I guess it wasn't bad. I got great customer service from the same guy who helped me find the gig bag as I checked out. He grabbed picks and a tuner (the latter of which he realized I ended up not needing) for me to complete my kit, without upselling or pressuring me into spending a ton of extra money. He also tuned my guitar for me (which was sort of amusing as my guitar is a lefty and he is a righty) and put everything neatly in the bag for me. I was in and out of the store in around 20 or so minutes with everything I needed, and without spending an extra $200. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and chatting with the guys there. They all seemed to be having a good time and didn't mind helping a clueless girl try to complete her kit. I'll definitely return! read more

Came in here the other day to get some strings replaced, an appraisal for one of my guitars, and an exchange - nothing too major. We were greeted by Josh at the door, who was super helpful. He set us up with some great strings , swapped out my bad cable, and quickly found the trade in value for my guitar. We decided to hang out in the acoustic room for about and hour to test out the strings and check what guitars they had (great selection by the way) and Josh kept an eye on us to make sure we had everything we needed. I like this Guitar Center because they don't follow people around and bug them. I admit that you usually have to go find a sales person if you want to play one of the better guitars, but for the most part, you can go into the store and play until your heart's content. Guitars, drums, whatever. Guitar players usually take a really looong time to make a decision about buying a guitar, especially one that's a thousand dollars or more. They'll go to every guitar store around and play a few hundred guitars to find one they finally say "speaks" to them, and they will not buy until they're totally satisfied they've found one that they think is perfect. Tone, projection, looks, string height, playability. I imagine it gets really frustrating for sales people. That's why they might not come running to show you a guitar. Don't take it personally. Guitar players are a picky bunch. Me included. I like the place. read more

I had a very great experience at the Guitar Center in Atlanta today (3/8/2020 around 5:30p).. My boyfriend is an artist and was looking for bass guitars and I placed an online order the week prior to surprise him. I did not receive the confirmation email that my item was ready but since we were at the store, I decided to check anyway. Jared (Jarrett?) took care of me and even though he did not see that the item was in store yet, he went above & beyond to do all he could to check where it may have been. I was trying to be sneaky & not let my boyfriend know what I was doing at the register area and Jared played right along. He ended up finding exactly what I ordered in-store & took care of me all while being discreet about it. At the end of the transaction, my boyfriend was now in the same vicinity as I so Jared quickly slid the item off the side, I retrieved it & he exclaimed "So sorry I wasn't able to help you!" lol --- Thanks so much! Ordered a used instrument on line. My card was charged. Email to me says thanks for the order, here is you confirmation #. Next, you will receive email with tracking #. Two days go by. No tracking number or follow up email. I contact customer service and I am advised that the instrument I ordered and paid for, two days earlier was sold and not available. Not happy with this. So I ask for a discount on an 'open box " guitar of the same model. They said it couldn't be done. My card is to be refunded in 5-7 days. Wow- that's lousy customer service and they have just lost a long time customer. I'll shop at Zzounds, thank you. read more

I spent two trips to GC to trade in a guitar. The guitar was in excellent shape and retailed for $519. The first visit they said I would get around 200 in trade. After much waiting and many phone calls, they offered me 60 dollars for a guitar they never even touched. What a waste of time. read more

They also have Kenny leading the guitar classes department and he is a true pro and really cares about ensuring the students and their families are safely distanced with multiple teaching options (including Zoom) while learning.
