This was an absolutely terrible experience. We were serviced by Maple Leaf Landscaping in 2009. Since, this work was done primarily in late fall visual progress of the lawn could be evaluated until the following year. We had fill put in, and regrading of the driveway. Then in 2010 the grass looked healthy and then in mid-summer we noticed the grass starting to die, cracking of soil, thin areas of grass, and undergrowth of new grass looked brown. Deciding it would be a great idea to fertilize the lawn (to increase grass growth), the mistake was made and some grass was killed in the process (we take full responsibility for this mistake). We decided to contact Maple Leaf Landscaping to address other concerns (and not the one made by us): pooling of water by the concrete slap, dead and thin grass, etc.. We did notice that while we were repairing the damage from the fertilizer we noticed that when we dug into the "newer fill" it was MOSTLY CLAY COMPOSITE...NO BLACK SOIL TO BE NOTICED! We even did a test where we took a ball size of "soil" and formed it into ball, and it has maintained it's shape for 4 days - again that it shows it's mostly clay composite.
To address our other concerns we contacted the Owner of Maple Leaf Landscaping, Cal, and he did not return our phone calls for 1 week. After another call, he came today, unnounced, and seemingly upset at our request for him to come over to look at our concerns. He immediately said "I could tell from the first moment I met you that you were a Liberal Democrat" (this was weird and extremely out of context because we never talked about politics in this entire conversation". He proceeded to say that "we FUCKED up" and that we were dumb and dumber and idiots. He kept on referring to the spot I damaged (and I REPEATEDLY said it wasn't his fault and not his responsibility) and he kept on saying how "it's people like us who ruin it for everybody else" (I couldn't determine if this was a political slame, or ?). He said he "was done with us" over and over, and at one time, leaned into my husband's face and said "what are you going to do now?". I was very scared and felt very threatened. I really felt he hated us, and was judging us as "liberals" and part of the "poor". I really feel that he would have not said this to a wealthy person. He also commented "what do you think I would do take out your soil and put clay in it's place?" . I said yes, and that's exactly what you did. We plan on pursuing this further and taking samples of the composite of the backyard soil. In the end it was a very disturbing experience. read more
