I know they are busy. I was on the 2nd floor which I think they call sub acute. Majority of the people there are seniors and live there full time. So if your young like me it can be a little frustrating to deal with the full time residents who can be annoying at times with the noise. I just told my aid that my room mate is causing undue noise and it was handled. I'm an esmoker so I was hassled a little bit about smoking near the building so I just moved to the parking lot in my wheelchair. Food is rated 6 out of 10 in my opinion.

We agreed, and upon a friend's high recommendation, chose Emerson. I am forever thankful we did. In the 8 and 1/2 months she was under the care of 2 North amazing staff led by Flavia, my mom DID thrive! She was so well cared for by the nursing staff and the aides. They were responsive, quick to update me and an absolute pleasure every time I came in. They take their residents' care very personally and as a result, it is above and beyond. The recreation staff made daily activities a joy, and my mom, who even in her dementia was very social, fun and feisty, participated in everything from games - both physical and cognitive - to karaoke and attending all the live Friday concerts. Emerson impressed us at every turn. From the efficient admin staff to wonderful Kelly in the salon, to the receptionists and attentive housekeeping staff, we were always greeted with a smile. It truly reflects their corporate culture, which is one of hospitality and excellence in care. Thank you for making the last chapter of her long and well-lived life, one to be remembered fondly.

I was very upset by this development because everyone I met that works there was amazing. I had the opportunity to meet several of the residents as well and they treated me with dignity and respect...they made me feel welcome. I was hoping to have a place go to help people. I still want to do it, but I find it difficult sometimes to simply get out of bed. I really hope that I can find a way to tolerate my pain better, without the use of medication, so that I can make the drive from Fair Lawn to Englewood. The residents deserve people who can volunteer their time and it can be such a rewarding experience. I really am going to try to get my pain issues in order. I'd like to be there for these people. They helped entertain us for years, nowadays they can use the help. Please, if you can find it in your hearts, volunteer at The Lillian Booth Actors Home.

That is with aids, med techs, house keeping and activity coordinators. Lots of turnover at this location again in many departments. I recently moved my mom out of this facilities memory care unit after she was sent to the ER unresponsive due to dehydration. Doctor said her symptoms were a direct result of dehydration. The level of care is way below average. I found my mother wearing 2pull-ups many times. Even after several conversations and emails to the director it still happened. The tone in which some of the memory care staff speaks to the residence is inappropriate. Their redirecting skills at times are nonexistent. Yelling "Sit down" at someone isn't what these residents deserve or are paying for. Residents are locked out of their rooms all day long. One day a woman was sleeping (slumped over with her head on the table) at the dining table all afternoon then at 4:45pm moved to her dinner table to sleep with her head in the table through dinner. ???? Wheelchair bond residents are rolled in front of the community TV if it's not meal time. The residents that walk are often told to stay in the dining area so the aids can see them more easily. When the activities staff is short(which is often), the resident barely leave the dining area so incredibly sad, again not what they pay for. My mom regularly got the wrong clothes from House keeping. There is a full activities calendar yet more than half of the time the activities don't actually happen. They promote a weekly bus rides. Not sure that actually happened as there is only one licensed driver for the bus. Sales person that toured us around gave us incorrect information. Sorry I didn't listen to my gut and move her out sooner. Stay AWAY!

When questioned on Friday about no hot water - plumber coming on Monday. Heat was just turned on in the rooms on October 6. The first floor common room has no heat. This is an area with tables and chairs for the family to gather and maybe share a meal. Just bring your winter coat. Saturday was warm enough to side in the garden area. Very nice but half is cordoned off with caution tape. Now 1 of 2 elevators are out of order. Room tvs need an upgrade. You could film a movie here set I the 60's. Let's talk about the food. I'm bringing in the meals each day. No access to ice water, water, coffee or tea or a microwave. All under lock and key. No patient refrigerator. Just come for therapy and your family had to pick up the slack on the rest. No heat and no hot water are no acceptable. Health code violations?

This actually happened at the facility in Chester but I was told all the Kesslers use the same…read morepolicies and I can't find a way to review the Chester location. WARNING if you use Kessler for in-patient rehab for yourself or a loved one (or any rehab, as this could occur elsewhere). If the patient has joint surgery, especially hip or knee, or is otherwise at high risk of pulmonary embolism and should be wearing IPC devices (alternating pressure cuffs) PLEASE CHECK with Kessler, before agreeing to discharge there from the hospital, that they will put the cuffs on within a few hours. They accepted my family member from Morristown Medical Center, where she had the cuffs on, and their own doctor ordered that she should continue wearing them to prevent PE. But unbenownst to me, Kessler has a policy of doing a doppler before putting the cuffs on-- even if they've already been on continuously at the hosptial-- and they admitted her when they would not have technician available. They left my family member laying immobile for 15 hours without the devices and she died of presumed PE before they ever got around to it. I wrote them and asked them to change their policy to either put the cuffs on patients without doing a doppler like the hospital does or to delay admission until they have doppler technicians available-- i.e. to stop taking patients who need the cuffs and leaving them without the cuffs for longer than recommended. The president of Kessler called me today to say they'll look into it but "I'm not going to tell you if we change our policies." I have no idea if they're going to change anything. IPC cuffs can significantly reduce PE risk for immobile patients in the days after surgery. So please, DO NOT go to Kessler after a joint procedure without confirming they'll use them if the doctor says the patient should wear them. In fact, confirm IPC device use with any rehab prior to discharge if the hospital is using them and the patient is still in the high risk period. Kessler Foundation also sent a donation request addressed to my dead family member weeks after she died there and weeks after I'd written the complaint asking them to change their procedures. Addressed to the patient who died there. Asking her to send them money. The president did agree this shouldn't happen and said he would try to prevent it from happening to other people. What he did not agree to do was stop accepting patients who need IPC cuffs during times when they have no intention of putting them on.
