We booked the Maple Court Hotel from a net search, having decided we were going to take the sleeper up to Scotland to see some snow! On our second day, we saw walkers clad only in t shirts, so you can tell how successful we were.
We did better with the choice of hotel. The Maple Court is set just yards from the fast flowing River Ness (the fastest flowing river, apparently), and there are great walks along the banks both into the city centre and over the rather juddering footbridge to the other bank.
Arriving tired and glassy eyed off the rather rocky sleeper, we were able to check in our baggage and go off in search of breakfast. Our room was large, bright and airy, and confortably decorated in soft pastels and pine. Trendy it wasn't but the room was very welcoming, and we found the hotel a great base to go exploring.
There is a small bar in the grounds. Breakfasts in the hotel were large and filling, with options of cooked breakfasts, kippers and, of course, porridge. We had dinner at the hotel one evening, where we were one of only two tables. The food was excellent, and the price modest.
We booked our stay on a preferential rate through the Scottish Tourist board, and got three nights for the price of two. Our stay here was a real bargain, and we will certainly go back if we are in Inverness again. read more
