UPDATE (July 2026): After posting my original review, the…read morefirm reached out to discuss my experience in detail. We had several conversations, and I appreciated that they took the time to listen to my concerns and work toward a resolution that I felt was fair. My original review still reflects my experience during the engagement, and I stand by the concerns I raised regarding communication, continuity, and quality control. However, I also believe it's important that my review reflects the complete experience. Because the firm took my concerns seriously and made a genuine effort to address them, I'm updating both my written review and my star rating. I've also agreed to a future tax planning consultation and will evaluate whether to continue working with the firm next year. If I do, I requested that my engagement be handled by the tax professional who ultimately finalized my return after it was escalated, or someone with a similar level of experience, and the firm agreed to honor that request. I'll update this review again after that experience so future clients can see how it compares. ORIGINAL (June 2026): I hired Dimov because I wanted more than tax preparation, I wanted a long-term CPA relationship for my growing business. During my initial consultation, I clearly explained my two priorities: evaluating our R&D expenses and discussing an inventory write-off strategy. Those were the primary reasons I hired the firm. George was very responsive before payment. After I became a client, however, I was handed off repeatedly. Over the course of my engagement, I worked with EIGHT different team members and had to continually re-explain my business, priorities, and previously submitted information. It felt like no one truly owned my engagement from beginning to end. The process took over three months to complete. Just to name a few issues: - My return was placed on extension without anyone proactively informing me that the original filing deadline would not be met. - The two primary issues I hired the firm to evaluate, R&D and inventory, were both initially overlooked. - I paid separately for an R&D consultation, yet the R&D analysis was not included in my draft return. - After I questioned why the R&D was missing, it was added to the return. However, when I reviewed the revised return, I questioned the analysis itself. The preparer assigned to it acknowledged he wasn't experienced with the R&D credit, and the matter had to be escalated to someone with more expertise before it was completed correctly. - A California LLC tax payment I had already made, and previously notified the firm about, was omitted until I caught it. - I spent weeks following up for updates and often received little or no meaningful response. When communication broke down, I copied George on multiple emails and also reached out to him directly. I never received a response, which was disappointing since he was the person I initially engaged with and who understood my goals. To the firm's credit, every issue I raised was eventually corrected. However, those corrections came only after I identified the problems myself. Had I simply signed the original drafts, several important items would have been omitted or reflected incorrectly. If you're looking for basic tax preparation and are comfortable reviewing every detail yourself, your experience may be different. I was looking for proactive tax planning, guidance, and confidence that my return had been thoroughly reviewed. Unfortunately, I didn't receive that experience.

The screen had lines and would black out, making the laptop unusable. When I took it to the Apple Store, I was quoted $1,100 just to send it in for diagnosis, or $1,400 for a new laptop. I contacted two other repair shops, but they didn't handle Macs or water damage. Thankfully, I found San Francisco Bay Computer Services. They quoted me $467 for the repair, which included a screen with the Apple logo. I paid a 50% deposit, and they ordered the part, which arrived in just one day. I dropped off the laptop in the morning and picked it up the same day--fully repaired and working perfectly! They also provided a 30-day warranty on labor and assured me the parts have a manufacturer warranty. To top it off, I received a 20% discount on labor for my next visit (not that I hope to need it anytime soon!). Ed was responsive on the phone and texted me when laptop was ready for pickup. Their professionalism, efficiency, and fair pricing make them stand out. I highly recommend this business to anyone in need of computer repairs, especially for Macs!

For years I heard my parents had nine 8mm video reels stored away, but without an easy way to watch…read morethem. In the past few years I took a lot of old 35mm photo negatives they had in storage and embarked on a journey of organizing and digitizing them. In the past year, at the last mention of the 8mm videos, I decided it was time to take care of them as well, but having gone through the journey (and all the related research) with still photos, I knew I would be much better off just finding a professional business (with a professional scanning machine) than trying to do it myself. I explored a number of options in southern and Northern California, but eventually decided I'd reach out to Buck and Movette on the basis of their site and output options. I was so shocked to see that other vendors were still offering to master on 480p DVDs. Perhaps a good option for an elderly customer unlikely to buy better playback devices, but a shocking betrayal of the resolution and longevity of film, since 8mm can easily take advantage of full HD at a minimum. Initially, paranoid about losing the reels in the post, or the vendor misplacing them, I had hoped to see if they'd let me come a few times and stick around for the scanning but once I realized that wasn't possible and also that Movette was the best option I'd found locally, I made an appointment to drop off the reels and waited a few weeks. Upon pickup, one of the double reel containers which Buck flagged as a risk for off gassing and eventual vinegar syndrome had been moved to recycled tins, and the 2 TB SSDs I'd left with Buck were both fully loaded. He showed me a few snippets and explained what I was getting. In short, I received each of the nine reels (combined over 3 hours of footage) as: - cropped h264 compressions - cropped ProRes 422 (18 fps converted into 24 fps via duplicated third frames) - cropped ProRes 422 (18 fps retimed to 24 fps - meaning I could retime to 18 again in a video editor without issue) - ProRes 422 overscan masters (18 fps retimed to 24 fps) - ProRes 422 overscan one light safeties, basically straight out of the scanner, no touch ups (18 fps retimed to 24 fps) I was blown away at the quality of the scans, and the thoughtfulness with which the above package of files was decided on and organized. It means I could easily share the simple h264 compressions right out of the store, and I could also load the overscans into Resolve, retime to the original 18fps to play at the natural speed, stabilize (using the extra margins as a buffer), load those ProRes files into Topaz, use AI to interpolate frames up to 30, and if desired (though I've not opted to), upscale and enhance using AI. The scans are everything I'd hoped for, captured in a fidelity and with a thoroughness that ensures the contents of the reels are perfectly preserved forever, giving me peace of mind that the precious memories weren't going to be lost to entropy. I was especially happy to see how well colors had come through, but we've just generally the sharpness/focus and cleanliness of the scans is excellent. I paid a premium to bring them to Buck and not go to cheaper options, but if you're making this decision for yourself consider this: Movette uses the Lasergraphics Scanstation 5k, a scanner into the six figures. That resolution allows for the overscan at a quality that, even if you crop down to the video frame, you're well above full HD. Other local business seem to use the RetroScan, devices that can be had for a few thousands. Yes, there are laws of diminishing returns, but there are also some incontrovertible truths. Pay a bit more and have the job done on hardware unanimously considered the best for the work, or roll the dice and hope the film isn't damaged by whatever scanner is used. My thanks to Buck and Movette for their work and for staying in business in what I know is an expensive city to run one. If my parents unearth any more reels, or if any of my friends tell me they need something scanned, I know where I'll send them.

He's incredibly thorough and detail-oriented - he double and even triple checks everything to make sure your return is accurate and that he has all the right information. He's also very responsive and flexible with scheduling, which has made it easy to fit tax meetings around a busy workday. Chris really shines with more complex situations. He specializes in startups and equity compensation (ISOs, RSUs, etc.), as well as investment portfolios, so if you work at a startup or have a more complicated tax situation, you're in great hands. He takes the time to walk through everything, explains complex issues clearly, and makes the whole process feel much less stressful. He goes above and beyond by looking at prior years and making amendments if necessary to put you in a better position for future tax years. I originally started working with Chris based on a friend's recommendation, and after three years as a client, I'm very glad I did. If you're a startup employee or founder, or anyone dealing with equity and investments, I highly recommend Chris at FlexTax.

This firm went from exceptional to completely unprofessional overnight…read more I stayed with them for years solely because of Sam, who provided outstanding service. After the ownership change, it's clear that level of care is gone. What replaced it is a rigid, impersonal system that treats clients like transactions rather than relationships. They failed to notify clients of a major policy change regarding tax extensions until just days before the deadline--putting me at risk of non-compliance. When I raised concerns, their response was essentially: "This is our policy now, and if you don't like it, go somewhere else." No accountability. No attempt to fix the situation. No access to leadership. Just scripted responses from a support team. For a firm that benefited from years of loyalty and referrals, this is an incredibly poor way to treat clients. Avoid. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNER : Your response proves my point. After years of automatically handling my extensions, you changed the process right before a deadline, offered no real support, and told me to pay $240 or figure it out myself. Had I not followed up, I could have been penalized -- and now you're trying to turn it around and frame it as my fault by calling me "not engaged." After years of loyalty and referrals, this wasn't a transition -- it was a downgrade to a transactional model.
