Enjoyable food, good, cozy atmosphere for an after work dinner while on business in Del Rio. Manuel's seems to be a hit with locals, and after eating here, I can certainly see why. Fish tacos were the order of the day on this visit. The presentation of the entree was excellent, and the taste and proportions justified my appetite, as well as spending budget. Very satisfying. It was a pity that Manuel's was out of Modelo draft brew at the time (settled for Shiner instead). Modelo would've made this dinner near perfect. My server was a perky brunette coed at the local university that had a good attitude throughout the evening. I didn't see a perceived arrogance as described in prior reviews, yet I was probably because I was having too good of a time prior to departing Del Rio for San Antonio. I went here for dinner with a coworker while in town on business on 7/11/12. I ordered the Tampiqueña plate. The rib eye was delicious. The enchilada, so-so. The crispy taco, so-so and not so crispy or well-seasoned. The refried beans tasted canned. The rice, not bad. The guacamole was fresh and not cut with sour cream. Very tasty. The bourbon on the rocks was good, and in a very nice glass. The portion was generous. The service was fantastic, and the look/feel of the place was good. Hours: Sun-Thur 7am till 11pm Fri & Sat 7am till 2am This is second location for Manuel's (the original one is on the Mexican side of the border). This place has lots of parking, a perfect downtown location, and tons of variety to select for your dining. They have a full sports bar and a nicely-decorated dining room. The categories of food include: Exotic dishes: Cabrito (goat) Quail Frogs' legs Tortilla Portuguesa with chicken Mexican dishes (prices $6-$20) Chicken dishes (prices $10-$11) Seafood dishes (prices $11-$20) Kid's dishes Beef dishes (prices $11-$21) My 16 oz T-bone steak was $17.50 (only complaint was the skimpy salad on the dinner plate--it would have been better to have served a separate portion of salad while awaiting the main entree. Not being from Del Rio, my sister and I were filled in on the history of Manuel's from a local on the drive there. Now that they are state side, the place apparently isn't the same. However, we had an enjoyable lunch. We shared an order of nachos, which flew off the plate - before we knew it, we'd gone through the whole thing. Yum! I got the tacos, which were good enough to bring back for leftovers. Waitstaff was friendly and efficient. Finally, as others have noted, the decor is pretty tasteful. Salsa is vert good but chips are way thick - the salsa is excellent though. Standard Mexican plate which was good but all Mexican plates are usually good. The price on steaks seemed a bit pricey so I stuck with a reasonably priced Mexican plate with taco and enchiladas. At the time I was there it was kind of a slow time and my waiter would disappear and would hate to think how he would be at a busy time. I liked the salsa so much asked for some to go and he disappeared for 10-15 minutes. They didn't have lids for the container? so he wrapped it in foil which is okay for a short drive but still?? Del Rio has limited food choices and if you eat here give yourself time and I would still not spend the money for a steak. read more

The have great chips and salsa. That's about it Food was pretty mediocre. What really set me off and motivated me to write this review was the Queso Flameado. It's literally just microwave cheese over a few pieces of chorizo on a plate and that's 11$. It also took them 40 minutes to make 4 tacos. Great I rarely take the time to write reviews. My meal in total was about 24$, half of which was for the melted cheese on a plate. If I'm paying this much at least maybe it can help someone avoid this experience or of management checks reviews, perhaps take corrective action to fix this abysmal performance. Having a captive market in del rio is not an excuse to provide mediocre quality. read more
