If I could give zero stars I would. My family has used this place for years for tailoring but out of the blue he decided to tell my gorgeous mother that she needs to lose weight. My mom and I can share clothes (for the record I am a size 0-2 depending on the brand). She regularly has my male friends hitting on her and they are often interested and asking me for my "hot friends"number. NOW I'm not going to type here and talk about how gorgeous and athletic my mom is but I could all day because I hope to look as beautiful as she does at her age. But I am going to say how dare you as a tailor comment on a woman's body ANYONES body. People come to a tailor to have their clothes refitted to look their best and feel their best. That is a tailors JOB. And it sucks that today Manuel decided to comment on someone's body and make them feel uncomfortable in a more vulnerable state because you have to change clothes typically to have stuff fitted. Take your business elsewhere unless you want your body commented on. read more

I'm so disappointed to give Manuel's Custom Tailoring such a low rating, but I feel like it's my responsibility to warn others after having such an awful experience. So here's what happened people. My beautiful (gorgeous) wife went to Manuel's Custom Tailoring for work on her bridesmaid dress and our daughter's flower girl dress for a wedding taking place abroad. To sum it up, he told her it would be ready on a certain day, she would show up to pick up the items, and he would say come back tomorrow. In total she made 8 trips being told to return because the garments weren't ready. 8 trips across town. I feel like I wouldn't have written a review if it was 7 trips. But Manuel pushed me to the brink. Manuel didn't apologize. He didn't offer 10% off. He just kept saying come back at a later time. She dropped off garments at the end of September and they were only ready after she had to become direct and assertive with him 2 days before we leave for the wedding - in November. He will try to tell you his credit card machine doesn't work. It does. He won't take your phone number to update you on the status if he's running behind. He should. He literally told my wife that he prioritized his regulars who came in after her even though she came in before them. In the end, I guess I just need to buy clothing in the right size. Because if I'm depending on Manuel he might eventually get the job done but the stress of getting there absolutely isn't worth it. read more

My experience with Manuel was absolutely terrible. I took my wedding dress to him several weeks ago to have the slip hemmed shorter and to add hooks to enable the train to be attached to the dress. While we were there for the fitting, a young woman entered and he asks what she is there for. She stated, I'm here to pick up my blue dress. He said "What dress"? She said, "I just talked to you yesterday and you said it was ready!" She was teary eyed at this point because the wedding she was going to be in was the following day. Exasperated, she asked him what he was going to do. He curtly replied "come back tomorrow"! She left in tears. I was there with two of my friends and we didn't know the back story so we just moved forward. I asked him when my dress would be ready and he said "next week". Well, that was three weeks ago and I have not received any calls from him. My girlfriend went down there yesterday and he hadn't even started the dress!!!! He claimed that he was waiting for her to bring the hooks! First, that is a completely fabricated lie. When she pushed back on that, he got very rude and raised his voice. He said come back tomorrow with hooks and I'll have the dress hemmed by then. She and I went to get the dress today. I asked him why he didn't call me during the last month. I reminded him he said it would be ready in a week. Once again, he pointed at my friend and lied and said he was waiting for her to bring hooks (we are not seamstresses, this is ridiculous). I reiterated that that conversation did not happen and then asked to pay. So, we will have to figure out how to do the rest of the work on the dress he promised to do. Do NOT go to this establishment. Thank goodness my wedding is still 3 weeks away and what remains to be done is fairly simple from what I understand. I came across Manuel's this week when I was searching for a place to alter my daughter's prom dress. Manuel was very nice on the phone and invited us to come by to see if he could make the alterations to her dress. His shop is conveniently located on Main St. in Ventura. It's a cute little shop with lovely plants. My daughter was very happy that he was going to be able to make the needed alterations in time for her prom 4 days later. I met Manuel, himself (: I had 2 pairs of jeans which needed to be hemmed. I felt his demeanor was professional and kind while he was appropriately sizing the length. He quotes me for $20/each pair of jeans. I felt this price was fair. He wrote down on a ticket when my jeans would be ready for pickup. My jeans were ready when he said they would be and he charged me $40 for both jeans. I will definitely be coming back to this place. My jeans were expensive, from the free people, and had recently been dry cleaned- I trusted him after reading all of the other countless positive reviews. I went in with two suits that needed tailoring for my short ass. The gentleman who helped me was extremely nice and approachable. I put on the suits and he gently sized them for me and asked when I needed them. Well I had an event in 3 days in the morning so I kind of needed one in two days. No problem he says. I come back and he has them both done and they look great, and fit perfect. This is what a five-star review is all about. The work looks solid and his service is stellar. I brought in two pairs of shorts and a pair of jeans to have altered. On the shorts I wanted the length shortened and the waist taken in. I asked to remove the existing exterior labels on the shorts. On the jeans I just wanted the waist taken in. ($90 total) Manuel told me to come back five days later and wrote the pick up date on my receipt. I stopped by the shop two days after the pick date Manuel gave me and he told me to come back later that day as he wasn't finished. The labels were still on the shorts when I finally got my clothes back. Just poor customer service. You call me and tell me you're running late, cool I can work with that. But don't start the job two days after you agreed to have it complete, don't take the labels off, and charge me full price. Two stars because the sewing appears to be okay. read more

I took my pants in to have then hemmed I went to pick them up the day they said they'd be completed and they hadn't even started. I picked them up March 28th and when I looked down at them at work today (April 21) the hem was undone on 1 leg, I've only worn them twice since they were hemmed so I'm pretty disappointed. Manuel did an amazing job altering all of my garments! This was my first time going to him off a recommendation from a friend. I just moved to ventura and called many cleaners/alterations places. I don't like to go to the cleaners for alterations due to bad experiences and the prices for other places in the area were quite high for simple alterations. Manuel's done several tailoring jobs for me, my husband & my friends. All have been good to wonderful. He custom made a jacket for me using one of my faves that had worn out - it came out usable, not exactly as perfect as the original, but good enough. He altered 2 jackets for a friend of mine recently that we got at a thrift store & those came out amazing! They looked like they'd been custom made for him. He has been at the same location for 14 years and has an outstanding reputation in town as a fine tailor. Each time I have used him for alterations I have been very pleased with the results. He altered a suit requiring sleeves shortened, skirt narrowed and hem shortened. The sleeves had trim and buttons. He also shortened the sleeve length on a blouse as well as hemmed a complicated dress. I've taken several items to Manuel's over the years for simple things like hems. He did a good job. The last time I took something to him and came back on the day it was promised he hadn't ever started it. I had to come back the next day, very inconvenient. I thought I would given him another try since I had taken things to him before. I dropped off two items on the 17 of the month. He told me my items would be ready on the 25th. I had given him a jacket with a zipper to be replaced and a pair of pants to have the elastic replaced. I went to pick up my clothes at 2pm on the 25th and he hadn't even started them!
