STEER CLEAR! STAY AWAY! My terrible experience with a recently purchased vehicle was heightened by landing at Mantor Auto Repair. While on the move to Ohio, seeking new job opportunities, the engine failed on my recently purchased used vehicle. The warranty company that was supposed to cover my car repairs partners with Mantor as part of their "network" shops. Probably to scam people out of not covering anything. It took almost two weeks for Brian Mantor to even work up some sort of estimate/information for the warranty company to go see my car. Eventually, the warranty company denied my claim--long story. It took about two weeks for Brian to call me and tell me the warranty company denied my claim and that I would have to find another solution--and that's only because I had to do the follow up calls to the shop. Brian didn't even offer to replace the engine, maybe hoping I would just take it and haul it away. I had to ask about getting it replaced there as the existing engine was already torn down. No other tech will touch a car with a torn down engine. Also, keep in mind, I'm new in Ohio and know no one to back me up. I asked Brian for a break on the price of the replacement at the engine turned out to be quite expensive. The initial quote was for about $4300, Brian offered to complete the job for $3800 or so. I asked if I could pay with a credit card, Brian then stated the offer was to not charge me the taxes on the repair--meaning it would be an under the table job and he would not offer a warranty on the repairs (Emma R 9/8/2016 Yelp review--definitely tax evaders). Of course, I needed to have something to protect myself, so I moved forward with the repairs for$4300. The warranty offered, 30 days (sorry excuse for a warranty). After giving the authorization to get the engine replaced it took Brian another 30 days or so before completing the job. I had to call once a week to get an update on anything. Brian came up with excuses all the time, "the shop is super busy," "we're preparing for a snowstorm," "I haven't had a change to get to it." Talk about getting yanked around with one dumb thing after another. The morning I went to pick up my car Brian called me and stated he has a semi-tow service he had to complete and asked me to pay for the service over the phone. He would leave they keys in the car for me to drive home, to which I agreed. Since I was driving my wife was going to provide the information. We were given the total of $4460.00 I asked about the extra cost. Brian calculated $4300 plus a percentage for using a credit card. I asked my wife to provide the information to Brian as I was tired of getting yanked around. Brian went off saying, "Since you're being a fucking dickhead you can wait another three hours while I finish my tow call" and hung up. I called him back and offered to pay for my car while he was still at the shop, he has not help at this shop by the way--Brian declined. I'm 100% positive that I never used bulger language with him however, he felt the need to do so against me. We arrived at the shop and waiting for Brian to come back. I now have my vehicle back, hope it runs long enough for me to sell it or trade it in.
Brian Mantor's shop is not a friendly place to have your car repaired. Stay away. He has too many things going on at once and can't keep it all straight. Brian offers auto repair, diesel truck repair, towing 24/7, semi-tow service and U-Haul. Mantor's is a one-man band with way too much on Brian's plate. STAY AWAY. He may be friendly to locals but, keep in mind that we all encounter people for all over the country from time-to-time. Hope my experience serves you as a warning, you don't want to be the next victim of shady business practices that is Mantor Auto Repair. read more
