Its enough so that I sort of tense up any time before I have to go in. This time I needed blood drawn. I have slight needle anxiety, I always let the phlebotomist know, and its never been a problem. This time the staff acted like I was a serious pain in the ass for notifying them. I was embarrassed and apologizing right and left, but the antagonistic attitude of the staff wound my anxiety up so high I had to leave without getting blood drawn. I figure enough is enough. I will say that, so far, it seems like all you have to do cancel a membership is call and tell them you want to quit. So that's sort of a plus, I guess...

The problem lies with the business professionalism of the staff and office management. Here are the issues I have dealt with, in order of irritation: Communication Failures: Recently, the office changed their phone number due to technical issues (a DDoS attack) but failed to inform patients. They did not send emails or postcards to notify clients. Worse, the old number still plays a generic greeting inviting you to leave a message, but the mailbox is full. A simple update to the recording or a mass email would have solved this. Instead, I had to drive 10 miles to the office just to find out why I couldn't reach them. Billing and Accessibility: During my last visit, I was charged a $20 copay based on old insurance records, despite telling the clerk I had changed plans (which carries a $10 copay). I confirmed with my insurer that the office must accept the negotiated $10 rate. I tried calling twice to resolve this--no response. I even stopped by the office during posted business hours to discuss it, but the door was locked with no explanation posted. Improper Charges: On my first visit, a clerk charged me tax on my copay. Copays are not taxable. When I pointed this out at my next visit, they corrected it moving forward, but offered no apology for the previous error or the fact that they had been doing it incorrectly. Unfortunately, this city is short on primary healthcare providers. It took me a long time to find a doctor, so I count my blessings that I have a decent primary care provider in Sharon Schaaf, but I have to grit my teeth to bear the administrative frustrations.

I have been seeing her since 2005 and she was immediately able to understand what I needed, make recommendations to help, and adjust as necessary--based on test results and, as importantly (to me), to my description of the impact of any changes we made or approaches we tried. How I felt was just as important to her (if not more) and her continual support and encouragement have gone a long way to healing and balancing some long-term issues, as well as effectively responding to more immediate things (like a sinus infection or the flu) that have come up. I like a good mechanic in a pinch, but in terms of my overall health, the quality of the relationship with the provider, the give and take, and the respect for my experiences and suggestions is the gift of a true healer, and one who has made an enormous difference in my life.

Edie is a Nurse Practitioner, and she is amazing. She only sees women, sorry guys, but she takes time to really talk to you, understand your concerns and explain things. She also fits beautifully with my pharmaceuticals as a last resort, approach to life. She doesn't prescription push and will talk about natural alternatives.
