I haven't been to the Duxbury Free Library in years. Indeed, when I last frequented it the library…read morewas housed in the old building, now named for its benefactor, local nineteen-century philanthropist Georgianna Wright. Having recently signed up our kiddo for a sports clinic at the nearby Duplex, we've now had several occasions to visit the library. They have a great children's room with tons of classic and recently-published books, some cool kid-oriented technology, and a kid-friendly library of things. You know it's a cool place when you have to pry the kiddo away to meet up with her friends to play sports! In my old age, I am more prone to leveraging the online resources of the Old Colony Library Network, of which Duxbury is a long-time member, but today's Duxbury Free Library has a ton of resources that you should check out and check out!

Carver Public Library - Lots of room

So therefore she couldn't walk 10 feet away to a computer terminal to assist me even though the sign says' if you need any help, ask someone..' But she left the desk running around the whole downstairs at the library, neglecting the front counter, she had sent she couldn't leave and otherwise being difficult to deal with. She had a bad attitude, not courteous and seemed overwhelmed by her duties! I will avoid this 'Tax payer funded' seemingly so overwhelmed at all costs.

Where history never…read moregrows old The Carver Public Library is a new, huge and visual stunning library that manages to incorporate the charm and charisma of an old and historic library with the convenience, size and efficiency of a modern library. It's aesthetically appealing from both the outside and in, with lots of natural light, plenty of open spaces to spread out and cozy nooks and corners to relax in. It's a library where you can breathe even when a lot of other people are around. Even though it is large and sprawling, it's so well and logical organized that everything is easy to find. Just a pleasure to walk around and look at how well the architects and designers did their jobs. The views from the upstairs is wonderful and even the most claustrophobic individual will feel comfortable inside. One of the coolest parts of the library is the Carver Room. Dedicated to genealogy and local history it has antiques, old maps and oodles of cool stuff to look at. A place to spend some time even if you don't care about the area. Several very nice libraries quilts give homage to tradition and history but rows of computers and wifi shows the way to the future. A library that is looking straight ahead but will never forget what came before it.

Since I bought a weekend pass and was going to take advantage of that, I came on a Saturday and Sunday. One good feature is there was a lot of parking on the road it's on. It's not walkable from the museum/village, but it is walkable for the Mayflower II so if you'd like to see that, parking near the mill is great since no meters and a lot of parking both times I went. It's also right near a lot of shops/restaurants, so if it's a stop along your path, you can find other things to do in the area. Only one of the days at one time (Saturday around 2 pm) was the mill actually going for a demonstration, so aim for this. Any other time they might talk about how the mill works, but that's not as exciting, so check the say schedule. Not that grinding corn is super engaging, but it's interesting to see how the large stones and wheel combo going. Downstairs, you could see where the ground corn came out with another worker describing the process. On Sunday, the wheel wasn't going at all, but downstairs they had a small demo about how a recipe using the ground corn was traditionally made, and they sell what they make in the gift store. It probably will take 30 minutes to an hour of your time depending on what time you come. If you bought the combination pass, it's a nice addition, but it's not worth it for just this on its own.
