Manoly's Bakery is on Santa Monica Bl in West LA and I've driven passed countless times until last month, I stopped inside due to some rave reviews by some fellow Yelpers... As mentioned in previous reviews, I like desserts to look fancier and visually see the details in each dessert creation. This shop was super small but had limited seating inside. The display case had a few treats that caught my eye and curiosity. This bakery shop is normally what you would see in smaller countries worldwide. The menu board has many handwritten offerings, there's tv monitor with a Spanish program. The staffer was nice and helpful. He was glad to hear Me speak Spanish fluently. I ordered and was asked to take a seat as he would bring out the dessert. I chose a fancy dessert and the other was less fancy. It seems both these items were the top sellers. Upon tasting, the fancy creamy layered mocha cake, I found the taste far too sugary sweet and artificial oily tasting...I could NOT take more than one bite. The swirly baked bun used high fructose as one of its ingredients, again could NOT eat more than the taste. My tastebuds and my body immediately reacts negatively which high fructose. I politely asked to have these wrapped togo, to donate to the homeless guy outside or toss it in the basura. As I was ready to pay with my iPhone, I had to walk behind the display counter to tap their machine and when after looking down at the floor I was sickened to see all the dirt, debris and apparent water leaks from the roof and plumbing being soaked up by some newspapers...Eeeeww! Wish I had seen all this horrible mess before ordering, it would stop Me from ordering, what I saw were clearly Health and Safety code violations and unsafe for the dining public. After I exited, I looked for the health code letter on their window wall ...'B' and was posted not exactly for visibility ease. Despite the rave reviews, unique culture treats, if a business is in violation of a Health and Safety codes and puts the dining public at Risk, it is NOT acceptable, NO recommendation: NO!!
I've been looking for tamales on the Westside since I've been spending more time on this side of town. Stopped in for the first time at Manoly's and ordered the chicken tamales and the mole tamales, and liked them both very much. Manoly's is a Oaxacan bakery and restaurant. While there are several Oaxacan food trucks on the Westside, there are far fewer brick 'n mortar spots here. Manoly's is one of the few, open in the morning for breakfast through the early evening. It offers fresh baked goods, a breakfast and lunch menu, Mexican basics (tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc.) and a list of "Antojitos Oxaquenos." This list includes tamales, pupusas, a tlayuda, chanpurrado, atole blanco and de leche, among other items. The tamales are moist and somewhat dense. The mole is my favorite, a tamale covered in mole sauce and wrapped in banana leaves. They're both delicious. Another good Oaxacan specialty is the tlayuda. You can get it with the usual cecina, tasajo and/or chorizo. The ham torta is made with egg and avocado, almost like a breakfast sandwich rather than the super tortas that you can find elsewhere. The tamales are definitely worth a return visit.
I was at the thrift shop and got really hungry, so I stopped into this bakery. I asked for a pupusa but the cashier said it would be 15 min and tacos would be faster. So I went with 2 asada tacos. Two tacos came out to $6.50. The tacos were pretty good. And the ambiance was really casual so it's a good quick place to eat.
Hole in the wall Mexican bakery that has a counter restraurant as well. I saw a few Mexican families eating the food which is usually a good sign. I only came for tamales and while I got all the ones they offer, the chicken with salsa verde was by far my favorite. The chicken with salsa rojo was too dry and I don't think I like mole in general. Still it's not the best tamale I've had but it's so close by it should do the trick when I have a craving. Their pico de gallo is FIRE though!!! I would come back to try their other offerings
I've been hesitating to write a review about this place because I don't want to share this yummy spot. Seriously, if you live close to here please look away. My little ones and I love frequenting this place and we can tell this Mexican bakery is super popular amongst the Latinos. Every time we visit the place is quite busy. Considering the interior is on the small side I don't like it to be busier than it is now. *sigh* During these pandemic times I do have to point out that everyone is really good about the mask wearing here which is a sigh of relief for me because my little ones are not vaccinated. If you're into flan, pan dulce, dulce de leche, pupusas, and the sweets this is the place. However I had trouble communicating with them on my first visit because my Spanish is getting pretty bad these days. Hey, I need the practice. So that may be the only drawback if your Spanish is non existing. Their menu is actually quite extensive but I kept my orders to their bakery section only. I will have to try their horchata and juices one of these days. So stay tuned my Yelp buddies!! In the mean time please look away unless your sweet tooth is getting the best of you. Lol
Best Mexican Bakery in the West side! They even have Rosca de Reyes. Great customer service from Jesus. Thank you!
This place has every kind of classic Mexican food and drinks, but unfortunately, not every product lives up to the expectations of the customers. Everything is not perfect here; Jarritos is a great Mexican drink option available here, while the churros and pupusas have turned out to be just above average for some customers. It has also been mentioned that plastic utensils are used and the service is sometimes slower. All these factors may account for one reason or another why a customer does not come back.
Here is my quick review since I only came here for take out only. I parked right out front on the street at metered parking . I walked into a really small establishment but you are welcomed with a display of assorted pan dulce and desserts. Several tables sat off to the side but definitely room to dine in if you wish. The gentleman took my order , which was 4 tamales and I waited about 5-7mins for my order to be ready. This was my first time trying this place and can I say delicious in 10 different languages. I had two red sauce , one green sauce and one mole all chicken tamales. Every single tamale was so good , chicken was well seasoned, moist , and shoot perfect in my opinion. I was saddened they didn't have pupusas because I wanted to try them . But I will definitely return to try other menu items .
Always great food! So nice to have this neighborhood Bakery/Cafe in WLA. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating.
Manoly's Bakery is an excellent spot no matter what you're in the mood for. You can have lunch and a baked sweet treat and walk away spending less than 15 bucks--that sounds like a good deal to me! But the real deal is how varied the food is. Want some breakfast? Omelettes! Lunch? Tacos, chicken sandwiches, burritos, fajitas! Dessert? Pastries, flan! And I had the Cajun chicken sandwich (an odd choice, I know). It was picturesque! A classic chicken sandwich with a spicy kick. I'll be back to try even more!
My boyfriend and I were in the mood for smoothies and juices. Manoly's was a nice walk away from my apartment. Both our food and drinks were delicious. They have juices and smoothies made to order. I ordered an apple, ginger, lemon, and spinach juice. It tasted exactly like Nekter's. My boyfriend ordered a flan. It was perfectly sweet. Supporting small businesses is important right now and we definitely don't want to see Manoly's go anywhere. Food and drinks were high quality and the person servicing us was kind and prepared our orders timely. Can't recommend this place enough.

I Manoly's Bakery. Their caldo de res is excellent!!! Yummy yuca, carrots, chunks of beef, green bean, and carrots. Very authentic and traditional menu. They are on a busy street kind of hole in the wall vibes but I'm always able to find street parking. They have 6 or so tables inside or of course you can order to go. read more
Manoly's Bakery has a variety of Mexican and Oaxacan foods, including pastries, juices and smoothies. They have a dedicated parking lot behind the restaurant, which is a rare luxury in LA. For the food: The bean and cheese pupusa is tasty. The hard shell taco is topped with ingredients, but the shell is pretty thin and shredded lettuce was mostly the tough core. The jamaica is refreshing and lightly sweetened. The refried beans is nice and smooth and I'd expect their bean and cheese burrito to be excellent. read more

Not a pupusa expert, but these were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with ample mild salsa and curtido slaw. Just the right amount of tasty filling and not at all greasy. The salsa and curtido were a little blander than I would have liked, but were not oversalted the way many can be. I would certainly return if in the area. As I was walking out, there was one guy who strolled in NOT wearing his mask on his face. The staff were wearing masks and had made efforts to distance tables for the eat-in diners; it's sad that small businesses and fellow customers have to put up with this kind of inconsiderate behavior from selfish patrons who just do not care about anybody but themselves. read more

Nice little place we found on Santa Monica Blvd near Westwood. We came specifically for some horchata as we were really craving some agua fresca but the drive to Mercadito was too long. To our surprise, the horchata tasted very watered down and then we later found that it was due to the horchata being DAIRY FREE! Which is wonderful news to any vegan friends, but we were hoping for an authentic version. We sat in and had some baked goods and tried the mole tamales. It is so incredibly hard to find tamales de mole (my favorite since I was a kid!!!) and I was super stoked to find them here. Only $2 and very good, not too big but they're definitely worth it if you're familiar. My boyfriend was especially a fan of their choco-flan. That and their tres leches cake was delicious. There's lot of pan dulce and other baked goods available on top of their menu selection of hot food. From nachos to pupusas and even tamales de mole. Yum! You are able to custom make a fresh juice such as a green juice starting at $5 and any other healthy detoxifying ingredients you can think of. There's so much we would like to try, but for now that's what we know and also the service is really great. Everyone is really sweet and helpful --I asked so many questions and one of the employees sat down to answer all of them! Lol. (There's parking in the back! Don't pay for meter parking like us) read more
After reading so many reviews calling this place a gem, I knew I had to give it a try. And this place is everything you'd expect and hope for in a low key Mexican spot. Place was fairly empty during lunch time during the weekend so was fortunate to get everything pretty quickly. Burrito (option of steam or chicken) - ordered the steak but pretty sure I got the chicken. Fortunately it was still tasty. The tortilla was really good and warmed up while the fillings were tasty. Definitely a sizable burrito though expect a lot of rice. The salsa was really good and seemed homemade as well. The chips that came with it seemed pretty stale though. Tamale - a pretty substantial tamale that was cooked really well. Even better if you pair it with the salsa that came with the burrito. I did have the misfortune of spotting hair in mine so just a heads up. Price here can't be beat and everything does taste good. Metered parking available read more

WHAT A FIND!!!!! When you look up pupusas in West LA, Manoly's shows up on the fifth page. It is so low on the radar, but it definitely shouldn't be. I kept driving past this place on my way home, everyday there is a lady standing outside handmaking pupusas on the sidewalk. I knew that was a sign of something good... We finally went to check it out and I have never been happier with a random find. I ended up coming here 3 times this weekend! They have the BEST tamales and the BEST pupusas!!!!!!! Their curtido (the pickled salad that goes on top of the pupusa) is incredible, spicy, and full of fresh veggies. They also have a housemade salsa there that is so spicy and god sent! Do not eat your pupusa without it! They of course have the traditional nonspicy red sauce that goes with it, but mix up the salsa for more happiness. We ordered the mix pupusa (beans, chicharron, and cheese, these are the only flavors they offer). It was amazing! I don't know why their chicharron is so good, it's almost like carnitas! I also got their mole and salsa roja tamales, both of which were AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! I ended up buying a bunch to go to keep at home and enjoy all week. I bought a few items from their bakery pan section to bring to my work this weekend and everyone loved it. Very tradtional and delicious. We tried their flan, and to be honest, it wasn't my favorite. But no complaints, everything else here is perfect. The sweet ladies who are constantly smiling while they serve you, yet rushing to get you your agua frescas (we tried the ensalada and piña, both of which were great - think kool aid). They even came to check on myboyfriend's banana milkshake to make sure she made it sweet enough. I highly recommend their menudo as well, it wasn't full of random vegetables, but just all meat. It was awesome! It came with some tortillas on the side (not handmade, but still fresh). I can't wait to come back and try their other oaxacan plates! If their mole is as good as the mole inside their tamale, its probably heavenly! read more
I found a hidden gem, having starting to work in LA you know we eat a late lunch. This is actually my second time here. My first visit I ordered a tasty breakfast burrito, it was egg ham and cheese, it was hot, fresh and delicious. Their menu although a Bakery is all inclusive. Basically you have breakfast lunch and dinner covered. Bonus is the bakery and the delicious list of cakes and pastries yet to be explored. I like what I see and I will be back. Today I ordered a BLT sandwich and fry for lunch, it was as if my wife made it, bacon perfect and thick, fries hot and fresh. It definitely appears the locals frequent loyally, I glad this place is a hole in the wall and the local vibe has not been gentrified. Great job by all the cooks and bakers! On street metered parking, Check this place out! read more
It was good enough. Had the hard shell tacos which were good and full of beef. Prices were really good. Had the tres leches due to the great reviews. Did not disappoint. Cakes looks Ike's good, it pastries looked a bit old. Parking is mainly limits to street parking which an be tight. read more
