TL;DR Manny is Experienced, Honest, and willing to help people DIY (Do It Yourself). My search for a plumber started when I got a new washing machine. Apparently, most old homes have a 1.5 inch drain pipe for washing machines to drain into, but new washing machines require a 2 inch drain pipe. I didn't know this. So when I discovered water all over my garage floor after the first load of laundry, I initially thought my new washer was broken. I later saw that my drain pipe and wall were wet. After running another load of laundry to test, It was clear that the water on the floor was drain water overflowing out the top of my washing machine drain pipe. I thought, oh it must be dirty or clogged. So I got a plumbing snake. Not one of these plastic dip sticks or something you hand crake, but an actual 50 foot metal plumbing snake that runs on electricity. I'm a DIYer and will often have success in the things I try to fix. But sometimes, it really is better to call a professional. This was one of those times. I spent probably an hour or two trying to use the snake to clean out my old pipe. What I didn't realize until later was that my snake got caught somewhere in the pipe and wasn't moving for the majority of the time. The snake stopped going forward, but worse, was not coming back out. The snake was stuck. I went on Google and Youtube to find ways to get the snake out, but nothing worked. It was late at night and I felt defeated. After wasting hours of my time, I finally admitted to myself that I should have called a professional. I went on Yelp and called probably a dozen plumbers in my area. It was late at night so I ended up leaving a lot of voice messages. The next day, no one called me back except one person. I assume no one wanted to help me and my stuck snake (I saw some YouTube videos of it being extremely hard and disgusting to get a stuck snake out). The one person to call me back was Manny. There was a charge for him to come take a look. I was hesitant on paying someone to just look at my snake stuck in a pipe, but I needed help and he said he would credit the money towards the repair if I decided to go with him. I hesitantly agreed to pay the fee, and he came by my house and took a look at my situation. He explained that my snake got stuck due to the pipe set up, corrosion in my pipe, and that I pushed the snake too hard. He also explained how I had a 1.5 inch drain pipe, but new washers need a 2 inch drain pipe to deal with the water discharge, and this was why the water was overflowing out of the drain pipe. He gave me credit for at least trying to snake the drain as most people wouldn't even try. We started talking and he found out that I'm a new homeowner who is trying to fix or improve as much as I could on my own. He started helping me identify other projects that I could do around the house that are more in my skill range (I'm an office worker). It was a long list that included things like how to fix the kitchen faucet that's leaking, how to install a sump pump to deal with standing water in my crawl space, how to change my shower head, how to patch a hole in stucco, and how to install insulation. The information he shared with me was definitely worth the money he charged for him to come out to my house. I ended up paying him to upgrade my old washer drain pipe to a new 2 inch drain pipe. He went to get parts, came back, and was done pretty quickly. He knew exactly what he was doing and was efficient with hit cuts. As a DIYer, I was curious and hung out to see him in action. He pointed out the pipe set up and where he thought my snake got stuck. He cut the old pipe and it was very corroded on the inside, just like he said it would be. My snake was also stuck exactly where he said it would be. He made some extra cuts in the discarded pipe that he didn't have to do, and rescued my snake. He was nice enough to explain everything he was doing and how everything worked. As he was finishing up, he asked me if I was using the water in my kitchen to cook with or to drink. I said yes. He then informed me that I was drinking water with rust in it. The pipes in the old house I bought had galvanized steel pipes, which rust on the inside overtime. If this was any other plumber, I would have thought that he was trying to scare me into paying more money for something I didn't need. But Manny displays a level of professionalism, experience, knowledge, and trustworthiness where I'm taking this information seriously. He advised me to change all my clean water pipes to copper pipes. This is not going to be cheap, but I also don't want to drink rust. I'm going to need to think about this. If I decide to go with him to replace all my clean water pipes, I'll post a follow up review. For now, I'm very happy that my new washing machine drains properly into the new drain pipe, and that he saved my snake! read more

Manny gave me a reasonable quote over the phone and set-up an appt on Monday 5/16/22 in the morning. Manny came right on time, showed him my faulty water heater, and began taking it down. Manny installed the new one within an hour. Manny also changed some copper tubing free of charge, and cleaned up the area. He then explained everything he did in common terms so anyone would understand. Manny was very professional and charged me what he quoted and nothing extra!!! This guy is a slick talking, dishonest, ruthless hustler. He takes advantage of people's vulnerability. Let say something in your house breaks and this affects your day-to-day creature comforts. Most people would feel vulnerable and want it fixed ASAP so they can go back to what they were used to. This is understandable and human nature. From a clogged toilet to broken water heater, these are things we sometimes take for granted and when it breaks, it disrupts our sense or normalcy. This is where Manny comes in and take advantage of you. He will claim he can come ASAP to fix it, which is great, but he will charge you an arm and a leg while using the your vulnerability and broken sense of security to get you to pay the outrageous price he want. When Manny came to my house he was slick talking and boast about his military days, which I respected but I didn't think a former servicemen would rip people off this badly. When he was fixing my broken appliance, he was rushing and seemingly careless as if he had to rush to the next appointment and rip someone else off. He left trails of dirty water and dirt all over my house and onto the yard and driveway. Didn't even offer to clean it, which if he did, I would've declined and cleaned it up myself. But it's the thought that count. He rushed to his next appointment so he can take advantage of another person. Yes, at the time, I was just glad to get my appliance fixed. But afterwards, I found out he charged me $1,600 for less than one hour of labor and an appliance that costed an average of $300 at your local Home Depot. He originally wanted $1,700, but was so generous to give me a $100 "discount". Talk about a rip off huh? Oh yeah, and that 5% first time customer discount? He didn't mention a thing about it, of course not. I only found out about it afterwards. I understand people need to make a living and I respect all those that learn a trade or skill and do honest work. But this is not the way to do it. To rip people off and take advantage of them during their vulnerable times are not how this should work at all. To make matters even worse, after he fixed my broken household appliance, he never gave me an invoice. No paper or digital invoice. No paper or digital receipt either. Oh yeah by the way, he only accepted cash. Go figure. Never again will I use this guy. I write this to inform my fellow Yelpers to do the same. I have been on Yelp on over a decade and this review needs to be shared to prevent him from taking advantage of more people. God knows how many he ripped off already. Here's an advice for future people who encounter the unfortunate event of a broken appliance that you depend on daily, like toilet or water heater. First, do not panic, it sucks but happens. Things break. Try to go to Home Depot or your local hardware store and buy the parts yourself first. Then if you or any of your friends/family don't know how to help you install it, then call around to get quotes from contractors. The key here is that you buy the material and only pay for the labor to fix/install it, which you have no choice because it's technical and you don't know how to do it, and it's fine. You will save hundreds of dollars by buying the material yourself. Call and compare quotes so you know the ball park price of job you need done. If one contractor says $1,000 and the other $700, you know one is really marking up their price. Read all the other 1-star reviews for this guy and you will find correlations between what I wrote here and those reviews. Manny is going to reply to this and say he never did any work for me, etc, etc. Guess what?! He never gave me a receipt or invoice, so of course he can say that! What I wrote is the truth and nothing but the truth. I don't have time like this to write an essay for something just for fun. Think about it. Learn from me and don't make the same mistake as I did. 6/23/2021. Manny came within 1.5 hrs. on a total clogged toilet. He removed obstructions to access first floor cast iron pipe and main pipe. Manny's suggestion was to install a Y pipe with a clean out for future access. All obstructions were replaced and toilet is working like a charm! read more

Interaction started off good but went bad quickly. I called a number of places and left messages to receive a quote. Manny was the first one to get back to me and conversation went well and he even provided me a quote. Long story short all the places started to call me back and I was able to get various quotes and even received quotes that were lower than what Manny quoted. However, because Manny was the first one that got back to me and I genuinely wanted to give him the business I asked if he was flexible at all on his pricing and wanted to give him "dibs." He simply told me and I quote, "I'm sorry but if you trust them go ahead I guarantee my work" I wouldn't have minded to pay his price but he couldn't even justify why and how he came up with his quote? Mind you he hasn't even met me, seen my situation or anything and got defensive and told me to go elsewhere. How can I even have trusted him? We never met. So I did take his suggestion and I was able to get a very reasonable quote and a handyman that's professional with good customer service and people skills. We used Manny in April 2020 due to faulty water heater. We did not know whether it was broken or there was an error. Manny came over the same day, and wore a mask and gloves which we really appreciated. He diagnosed the issue and while he could have pushed us to replace us, he showed us what was wrong with the heater and how we could keep the machine working for as long as possible. On Saturday afternoon I discovered a major leak underground in my main water line. After having the city shut off the water, I was faced with the fun task of having to find a great plumber on short notice on Saturday afternoon so we could get it repaired before dusk and to get water running again. Manny was nice on the phone and squeezed me between 2 other jobs, getting over to our house within about an hour. He was able to cut the old copper pipe, soder in a new piece and have everything working in about an hour. Very professional and did a knock up job to get us back up and running. My kitchen required a new faucet and garbage disposal. I had called another company, according to their website 24/7. It took them 3 days to call back and this was just to get a quote. I found Manny's plumbing thru Google search and scheduled a time for a quote. He came looked at it and immediately determined a problem with the original drain. Got a quote, he came a fixed it on 1213/16. I had running water, dishwasher and garbage disposal working. He fixed the original pipe, that apparently the original contractor had it incorrectly. I called Manny when my hot water heater stopped working and I really needed a hot shower. All I can say is when Manny left my house (after supposedly "fixing" the problem) I felt that I had been completely ripped off. When I called, Manny said he charged $45 for a service call, which I thought was amazingly cheap. When he left my house (about 40 minutes after arriving) somehow the bill had morphed to almost $300 and the problem was not even completely fixed. When questioned on how the bill had gotten so high, he said it was because of his so-called "expertise" about knowing which part to change (a $5 part, as I later found out) and the fact that it was Saturday. Hey, it was still Saturday when I called him and got the $45 quote and if he touts himself as a plumber, hopefully he has at least some "expertise' in dealing with plumbing problems. What a joke! On top of all this, he had only addressed part of the problem and I had to call another plumber (a far more honest one) to complete the job. To add insult to injury, Manny started telling me how my water heater was not installed correctly and how he could fix it (which at his going rate, would probably cost about $2K) --- which turned out to be total b.s. When Manny read my review of him he (or one of his friends) wrote me a threatening email and I am considering contacting the police about it. He also took it upon himself to write a "review" of me on Yelp in a feeble attempt to "get even", although he didn't have the vaguest idea I was a Realtor until he saw this review of him.
