I REALLY want to this to be our go to shop for all vehicles but it did not work out. We initially…read morehad a positive experience with Bullet Automotive. The staff were friendly, and we appreciated that their inspection and estimate process was clearly explained. We began using the shop in April 2026, for our Subaru and Dodge for preventative maintenance. Bullet provided estimates for recommended work, and we approved the items we considered necessary while declining others. At the time, we mentioned that the Dodge was making a whooshing noise when the air conditioning was running. We were told that neither vehicle had any major issues. A month later, the Subaru failed an emissions test. The failure was not related to any of the declined items listed in Bullet's estimate. We were advised that the spark plugs were the likely cause, so we authorized that work at a cost of approximately $770. The vehicle AGAIN failed emissions. Bullet performed a complimentary diagnostic but was unable to identify the cause. We were advised to drive the vehicle more before having it retested, which we did, but it still failed. We ultimately replaced a sensor based on information we found independently (which was NOT in any quote they provided), after which the Subaru passed emissions by a significant margin. Around the same time, the Dodge's whooshing noise intensified. Bullet invited us to bring it back for a complimentary diagnostic because it had been recently been inspected. We were told the coolant level was very low and paid approximately $500 for a recharge. We had already added coolant ourselves, but this information did not appear to change their diagnosis of the vehicle. In August 2026, the Dodge AC began blowing hot air. We called Bullet and were told to bring it in, with the understanding that the diagnostic fee would be waived because it was the same issue that we had already been in for on two occasions in the last three months. When the vehicle was dropped off, a technician told us the fee would NOT be waived because it had already been waived once. So we paid for multiple AC recharges and another inspection. We were not happy. We were then told that a component had cracked, and we paid to have it repaired. The following day, we were informed that the hose was also defective and that the labor cost would be substantial. We paid to have the hose replaced as well. The staff were courteous, and we initially hoped Bullet would become our regular repair shop. However, based on our experience, several diagnoses and repairs that did not resolve the underlying problems for not one but two of our vehicles, and we incurred additional costs and repeat visits. It is possible that our vehicles presented unusually difficult issues, but we have ultimately decided to use a different shop for future repairs. Coming here always felt like we were paying for their trial and error approach to fixing things.

Attended the new shop opening, located just off I-25 and Colorado route 66, where I met Mr. Maggio's family and some of the other customers who call Hands On Autotech their home for vehicle repair and servicing. I first went there based on the recommendation of the Martino troubleshooter show on 630 KHOW AM radio; 10 AM - 2PM, M-F. My opinion is that Tom's shop takes something of a scientific approach to vehicle repair and will go more in depth with an analyses than another shop I had been to for an issue with my '99 Tahoe. As an EV owner himself I gather that Tom is up on the current tech, perhaps more than some other places who would have men of my age (68) from the "dinosaur era" of automotive tech working at their shops.

Tom handled the situation and we moved onto the real problem with my truck. After the clutch was replaced another problem with the operation of the clutch was discovered so I agreed to the additional repair and another day for repair. After a week I was reunited with my truck. The repair was costly, lengthy and unexpected but coming out the other side of this experience I learned a couple of lessons. 1. If you have your vehicle towed to a shop follow the tow truck to the shop and verify the transfer. 2. Communication and follow up throughout the repair are key Tom was great to deal with and I feel that he was honest with me about the repairs needed and the cost of those repairs. Having recently moved to the area I feel my vehicle maintenance and repair needs can be checked off the list. I can recommend Hands on Auto Tech to anyone needing an honest repair facility and Tom as a good guy to deal with.

The local shop quoted us 10,000 for the replacement, which we panicked about affording. We found Brighton Auto & Diesel Clinic and worked with them to get the vehicle towed down there. They confirmed the diagnostic and also another issue with the vehicle that had been undetected. They gave us a much cheaper estimate (over 6k less than the original shop.) After that and a small down payment, the engine was ordered. Thanks to diligence on the part of the front desk staff, we were able to order a used engine with less than 6000 miles on it to replace the one that had died at 84,000 miles. Although there were some slight weather delays, the shop was able to get the car up and running in a timely manner once everything was received and it's worked great since; we've had our car back just over a month now. Very glad that we used this shop and will definitely go back to them in the future, even though they are an hour out of the way from Loveland.
