I live in Omaha, NE and received a letter (see attachment/picture) from this particular Chicago…read moreoffice in December, 2024 stating that I owe $2200 in overpayments due to me being incarcerated. Problem is I've never been incarcerated in my life. Immediately contacted Social Security and through an appointment met with a represenitive through my local Omaha field office. Provided them with all requested documents to prove that I was not incarcerated but as of 06/13/25 this matter has yet to be resolved. Not only has this matter not been resolved, but now the Chicago field office has authorized monthly deductions from my monthly social security payments "until the amount I owe is paid back" (see attachment/picture). Omaha field office has reached out several times to the Harold Washington Social Security Center for clarity on the delay and the deductions but according to the Omaha SS field office representative, none of the Omaha field offices inquiries to the Harold Washington Social Security Center have been responded to. Pretty sad that I have to resort to google review with this. This is a good example of how inconsiderate this particular Chicago field office is when it comes to these matters.

This new location is nice looking and well maintained, but that's about it…read more It opens at 9am, and I went at about 9:15am. Of course, it was already crowded, and for at least ten minutes, not even ONE number was called. Nope, not one. I'd had my wallet stolen, and the DMV had issued me a temporary paper replacement. They couldn't say for sure if the Social Security office would accept it, but I figured they would. You can guess how this ends. After waiting for an hour (yay!), I went to the counter, where a surly younger woman pointedly asked me for my documents. I gave her the DMV-provided temporary license (NOT a photocopy!), and she said she can't accept it. I had no way of knowing this. It is not on their website. It was issued by the DMV itself that same day! I can see no reason why it shouldn't be accepted, but if not, then they need to be a lot clearer. It becomes very obvious that they don't value citizens' free time one bit, not really an attitude citizens deserve from their governments.

This was the closest to Milwaukee, and the Chief of Staff needed to come here. Plan on about two months from when you make the appointment. Only the person with the appointment can go in and up to the office for security reasons. I had to wait outside but the weather was nice and there are two pleasant benches in front of pretty flower boxes. Security is professional and very polite. The process doesn't take long. Limited parking on the street in front, I suggest you get here very early. Don't bring any weapons.

Spoiler alert: You need to bring your passport with you. I went in anyway just in case and when I got up to the 6th floor that's when I saw a sign saying passports were necessary. This info is not included in the interview confirmation online. There's lots of other helpful information--directions to the site; no parking available; masks required--but nothing about what you need to bring with you. Since they have the information in the application, you'd think they'd have access to some of the State Department systems for this purpose, and many if not most would have a photo ID, I don't think the requirement to bring a passport is a given. When I visited the first time (forgot my passport, remember?) the BP police-type officers (not the same as the folks at the security checkpoint) were not wearing masks. Awesome. /sarcasm There's no parking specific to this building. You may find street parking on Jefferson, a couple blocks away, but it will probably depend upon what time of day and it's paid parking seven days per week. There's a parking lot at 519 S. Clinton that you can use; as of 7-25-22, 0-4 hours cost $16. I used the Spot Hero app and got a space for about half that. My second visit here for my Global Entry interview went much more smoothly, chiefly because I remembered my passport this time, yaaaaayyy! I was resigned to be there for like an hour, figuring they'd be behind because people were late, and that there would be a ton of folks there. When I arrived there were just three others waiting, and one of those people was just a woman there with her husband for... idk. Moral support? I was about 20 minutes early (I'm never that early) and an officer came out to get us almost 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time. As I expected, the interview took all of five minutes, and I could have shaved at least a minute off that time if only my fingers had been situated properly on the fingerprint scanner. In fact, I was done with my appointment before my scheduled appointment time. I'm really glad they're so on time with the appointments and I've finally got it done. Make sure to get there early with your passport and state-issued ID (yes, both).

Lawrence Avenue Chicago Illinois 60625. Addressed to Ms. Thomas 877-409-8426 ext. 15573. Security guard Mr. Scott as my witness. I received a phone call less than 30 minutes later Friday August 20, 2021 @ 10:09 a.m. Someone playing on the phone, holding the phone after me saying hello several times. 85 degree temperatures, hot, sweaty, and stressed out. I said a few choice words and hung up. Two minutes later Friday 20, 2021 @10:11 a.m. I get a call from the same number. I loudly said hello (livid) the caller responded by saying hello. I stated "Mam" did you just call here holding the phone.? She stated that she had said hello (liar) she also stated that she was from the social security office...."how may I help you"? I replied by asking "what is your name"? She stated "social security how may I help you"? I then stated "lady you are very unprofessional...you call me refusing to identify yourself and stating that you are from the social security office. She then stated that her name was Ms. Thomas from social security office how may I help you. I was exhausted and very upset. I told Ms. Thomas "please do not call here playing on my phone anymore" I hung up and called the social security nationwide number and explained everything to the call center. I was put on hold while the operator was checking to see if anyone had called me from the social security office. The operator came back to the phone about 3 minutes later and confirmed the worker as being Ms. Thomas. I don't drink, smoke, drug, or gamble. Lets break this down. First reflect the dates and times of the calls. My credibility and the transparency is epic. No one should be subject to harassment, humiliation, and bullying by anyone. Especially someone who has vital information concerning their life. We need a modified administration with a new set of policies and protocols. An etiquette training course referencing empathy and compassion for people who are struggling in their lives. A system that monitors employees, managers, etc. to make sure these people are not at work gossiping on the phones, talking about their baby daddy, looking at peoples social media accounts, playing video games and listening to music. When they are suppose to be working to help and service people in need. I provided you with enough information to investigate. Thank you for reading ...have a great day!!!
