The word that comes to mind after watching those recitals and knowing what my daughters are doing at Route 42 is gratitude. I am so very grateful that my daughters have had the opportunity to dance at Route 42. Miss Nancy has raised the bar since taking over while still maintaining a fun and caring environment. I never really compared their instruction to others', but now see how much further along they are in learning proper technique and dance movement. As my oldest daughter and I were watching another studio's recital last night I was thinking to myself how grateful I was to have my daughters taught by Miss Nancy, Miss Magons, and Miss Katherine. At the same time my oldest daughter leaned over to me and said, "I feel like I need to give Miss Nancy (the owner) a great big hug. So Nancy here is your hug. Keep up your excellent work.

I even got my own pair of pointe shoes. I loved to dance. I did lyrical, ballet, tap, and jazz. But, when I did get older I had some bad experiences with getting yelled at. Yea, I wasn't Misty Copeland, but I also wasn't a someone with no strength and flexibility. I was told these were corrections and I wasn't to cry over them because I was getting help. I had some days where I'd be corrected with simple words, and not be humiliated in front of the class. One time my teacher said she didn't give a shit about the dance she was choreographing and said she was looking at me. Mind you I was on a week long vacation in Washington DC. I cried in the dressing room while my friends comforted me. My little sister also went to this dance studio and experienced just about everything I had. The good and the bad. I don't want to make this too long, so I'll just say a few more things. I quit in 2021 and my sister quit in 2022. I feel so much more anxiety free now and so does my sister. every time I had to go I just got a heap of anxiety in my stomach. Needless to say, the studio is really nice. if you want to sign up, I'm sure you won't regret and you'll make a lot of good friends. I just wanted to share my part.

I wonder if they have a maximum number of students allowed to sign up for a class? I think enforcing everyone to sign up online for a class, may help with this issue. My latest class has been the Saturday morning Barre classes and despite the difficulty of the class, I really feel the burn during class and the days following! I think the instructor here really do a great job at teaching and getting to know their students. A pet peeve of mine in exercise classes is when an instructor tells their students to go on their own and repeat sets of movements on their own. Having to pay for a class, I expect the instructor to guide me all the way through. I am glad all that through all the classes I have taken at Prana, I have not once encountered that pet peeve of mine! Check out Prana in Broadview Heights! Even though I initially felt awkward and out of place trying such intimate dance styles with a stranger, he was the definition of a personable professional and made me feel incredibly at ease! He was encouraging yet not over the top with praise (genuine) and the whole time was also giving me the history and background of both dances! Nika at the front desk was incredibly friendly and helpful too- ranging from helping me with a new mask to scheduling my next classes. Finally, every month or so they have a weekday casual social salsa dance. Pay 10 bucks, BYOB if you'd like, and dance the night away! It was at this dance- keep in mind I have had exactly one half hour salsa lesson in my life- where I had the great fortune of meeting the incredibly down to earth owner of Viva, Parker, and a friend, Miguel. Even though I warned them about my inability, BOTH gentlemen took time from the party to dance with me and made me feel like a first rate rock star! Everyone was so amazingly nice and open, and they are truly a credit to their craft. It takes a certain talent to teach a group of people how to dance, at all different levels and experience, and not make it intimidating. It was all about having fun and actually enjoying dance. During the social I was observing the room and saw how dance has brought together people of all different ages and backgrounds to just enjoy music, dance, and each other. Viva is truly a special place. They teach, encourage (and push you when you need it), all the time making it fun and and exciting.
