I've been here many times for random things, usually on our walks to and from the beach. It's an ok little shop with a wide array of snack foods, drinks, and household items. The reason for the bad review is the current price gouging during this pandemic. It's very unfortunate to see a "local" spot selling single rolls of toilet paper for $6/roll. Anyone going to this tiny spot is probably a local, and if this is how you treat your neighbors, you'll be easy to skip over once all of this calms down, which it will. There's a difference between taking advantage of an open market and exploiting the folks that support you day in and day out. Pretty shameful. read more

Came in the other day with my friends to get some snacks and candy before our beach day and as were outside getting ready to leave we open our chocolates to find all of the chocolate we've bought to be expired on the packaging. The chocolate was white and just rotten. We went in about 8 times exchanging our food and when we went in the last time we were told to leave because we were lying. The owner of this store sells expired and rotten items knowingly and doesn't have a care in the world. To me the Manhattan Mart is a staple of Hermosa Beach. I have no idea how the Manhattan Mart has received no reviews yet. I must have stopped at this spot about hundred times before ever getting a smart phone with the ability to check-in to this location. The Manhattan Mart is located on the border of Manhattan Beach & Hermosa Beach. The Manhattan Mart is located within walking distance of the water. So if you are planning a fun day at the Beach there is no need to stop and purchase all of your needs at a big box store like 'Target' when you could purchase the same exact things at the Manhattan Mart and in the process support a local business keep the lights on. The Manhattan Mart is run by a team of locals who know a majority of their customers by a first name basis. The Manhattan Mart sells food, drinks, Ice Cream, alcohol, sun screen and various other knickknacks that you are sure to find at a local grocery store. The Manhattan Mart offers lottery options and has an ATM located inside of their doors. Depending on if it is Hockey season you may or may not see several L.A. Kings shopping here. The favorite bar of the Kings and the Kings first stop after winning the Stanley Cup last year was the North End Bar & Grill located right next to the Manhattan Mart. The Manhattan Mart offers a small but 'free' parking lot for easy in, easy out access to all of your shopping needs. The streets surrounding this area could be a little confusing but for us locals we know how to get to and from this location while missing the crowds on Highland & Sepulveda. If you are taking items from the Manhattan Mart to the Beach make sure you bring a trash bag and pick-up after yourself. Beware of this place. We purchased 5 items: 3 Caprisun, 1 Arizona tea and 1 water. The register display was off so we couldn't see the items and they were charged. The woman quoted us $8.50ish. Instead of US swiping our credit card she took it and swiped it out of our view. We asked for a receipt but didn't look at it until we were a few miles away. The charge was $9.99. She overcharged us. Another reviewer had a similar complaint. I will have my credit card dispute the charge and I will report the store for deceptive behavior. In addition to that the store was untidy and the Arizona tea had what looked like black mold on the top of the can. There are better places to spend your money in my opinion. Shameful. Don't let them do this to you without writing a review about it. read more

This was my go to spot when a good friend of mine lived close by. We would go there a couple times a month either coming back from the beach or to grab snacks and drinks to hang out. Always found exactly what I was looking for and the people that worked there were very welcoming. Fast forward a few years forward and my friend had moved out of that neighborhood but I found myself right near by and stopped in. Same great people, same selection of items, same fair prices and a clean store too! Not sure what else can be expected. If I lived in the neighborhood I would be there quite often. I came in to this market the other day with a couple of friends and we bought about 10-12 items all of which were rotten and expired We had went back in multiple times to exchange all of our food that was bad and every time we got a new candy or item it was also rotten and or stale. The expiration dates on the candy were false as they said they expired in a month when the chocolate was white (this is supposed to be milk chocolate). We had our final straw and as I walk in to tell the guy that ANOTHER one of our items were expired he continued to argue with me and say that no it's not and he got it in last week which I knew he was lying at this point because of the fact that it was white and moldy... I will never come back to this place ever again and I highly recommend that nobody else does either.. Save yourself the money and time and go on to somewhere else like the beach market which is down the street. He's luck we didn't report him and possible shut the place down... Just a Local opinion.... This place is Horrible. It dirty has Roaches. The owners will rip you off any way possible. All the food is old. The wine will be super ridiculously over priced and it will taste like Vinegar when you pop the cork so put it on your salad. Amazing selection of over price beer that you will pay 50% more for. Its convenient and I get that its walking distance from the house but don't patronize a place like this. They are peddling off their garbage and charging your a premium to pay the rent. Go to BevMo or Total wines for a vast collection of wines and Beers at a fair price. And get your chips and snacks from 99 cents OnLy store!! Manhattan Mart is a staple of the North End of Hermosa Beach. It is two blocks from the sand, and offers a huge selection of brews and wines. I usually stop by here for some under the radar, craft, and artisanal brews that I can't get from anywhere else. Proximity to north end bar and the beach make this an easy choice for me on my way home from work. The owners are also very down to earth and nice. I've been going to Manhattan Mart now for well over 10 years. Its the quintessential beach convenient store like the ABC Stores are in Hawaii. Family-run business with a heart for the Hermosa Beach community, Arun & Raj have what you need when you need it - everything from lotto tickets, a wide array of wines, every drink you'd ever want while enjoying the beach or working nearby (energy drinks to milk), and lots of different snacks. There are 4 parking spaces out front for a quick in and out. It's my goto lotto place and have won a number of times there. If there is a place I go to have a break during my work day and get a snack, drink and a lotto ticket, this is my spot. It used to be communities would have these locally family owned places all throughout LA and this is one of the few remaining ones right near the beach. Great spot, great, friendly people. This place sold an expired Starbucks Drink and when I came back in (2minutes later) all the ones on the shelf were expired. They refused to refund my purchase. I came here today before hitting the beach to grab a lighter. The lighters were behind the counter, and the owner (I presume) handed me a pink lighter which I then purchased (for over $3). At the beach, the lighter wouldn't work and I realized it had no fluid. I went back an hour or so later (after the beach) to exchange it, and the owner refused, saying "it's empty". I said "yeah- that's the problem". He kept saying I "used" it and was implying I had emptied it or something? Why would I ever do that?? This guy is SHADY and CHEAP. He was obviously scamming since he chose the lighter he gave me and this was just dishonest and offensive. BAD BUSINESS. read more

Manhattan Mart is the quintessential beach town convenience store, located on the northern end of Hermosa Beach, two blocks from the beach. They have a rather large selection of snacks, sandwiches, drinks, beach related supplies, convenience items, and lottery tickets. I'm not much of a drinker, but they have an unusually wide ranging selection of wines and beer (domestic and foreign) for a convenience location. The best part of Manhattan Mart is the couple that owns the store, Erin and Raj, are about the nicest people you will ever meet. I live in the neighborhood, and stop in there frequently. They are very friendly to chat with, and they know many of their customers as they are locals from the neighborhood. Manhattan Mart has been my go to convenient store since moving to the South Bay. The owners, Erin and Raj, are some of the nicest people I've met. I go in pretty often and they are always welcoming and friendly. They are super close to the beach, so I always stop in there to grab some lunch. They have brown bag sandwiches (always tasty and fresh), snacks, and literally every flavor of Rockstar, my go to afternoon pick me up. It's also got lot's of craft beer and fine wines, as well as ice cream, so I pick up a treat for myself from time to time. Overall it's a great experience and great store. Went by this liquor store to buy a phone charger. My phone was dead and had an emergency. The guy that was working did not want to sell me the charger and LIED about a customer calling to "hold" it. These people not only charge outrageous prices, but their food is almost always expired. Sometimes, when you open the ice cream they sell, you can see that it had melted at some point. To top it off, they will SLIP IN AN EXTRA FEE if you use a credit card... WATCH THEM DO IT! When you bring it up, they are rude and tell you your "cheap". This is the worst place in the Southbay. Outrageously overpriced. A 30 pack of beer was almost double that of the grocery store. The owner is rude and takes advantage. Charges 50 cents on all credit/debit purchases even though he has an up to date chase credit card machine. I have never had a pleasant stop here. Do yourself a favor and walk down to the Green store. This store has the biggest piece of shit owner in California. Suppose to be a convenience store.....had a small $5 winning lottery ticket. Scanned it in the self service machine..said $5 winner. The old man running the store refused to put it in his machine and pay me. Took the ticket, looked at it, threw it back at me saying it was over 6 months old. Last I checked, August 23'was not six months ago. He called me a bunch of names I couldn't understand because of his foreign accent. Took my ticket down the street to a different store....no problem. This store is disgusting. Nothing but expired food, and when brought to their attention, they do not care. On 2 different desperate occasions that I've purchased items here, the items were expired and had bugs inside.
