Stephanie is amazing! When I came to her I hadn't had my hair cut in over a year. My last experience left my curls fried and broken. They literally broke off from the chemical damage as I had been relaxing my hair for years. Stephanie has helped me to revive my hair! She first did the diva cut and gave me her cell so I could reach out if I had concerns. She deeply cares about her clients and how they feel about their hair. She listens to my concerns and wants me to feel comfortable with my hair. I have very tight curls and it isn't easy to work with my hair. After the Diva cut, I got my first Keratin treatment and wasn't happy with it, my curls didn't respond to it, Stephanie encouraged me to come back in and she used a different keratin product, I was so much happier! She understood the expense and did not charge me full price either. She gave me 50% off. Another time, I had her do highlights. My curls didn't lay right and it wasn't as close to the roots as it could have been, I reached out to her and she had me come back in, highlighted again at no charge. I still wasn't completely satisfied, it felt too light and she invited me back and toned it down, without charging me. My hair is so finicky and Stephanie is so encouraging and supportive. I went here for the first time on Saturday, and I have to tell you that it was everything I could have hoped for and more. Marty (the shop owner) did my Devacut. It should be mentioned that I went in with an untamed and huge mass of curls that looked like it could take over a small country. Big, bushy, lots of gray. There was a consultation about what I did for a living, what my hair habits were, and how I wanted things to look. He listened to my requests and fine tuned them to fit my hair and face shape. Plus he gave me a short lesson in how to make my hair turn out the same way. By the time I left, after 3 hours in Marty's chair, I looked (and felt) like a new person! Short, shaped, ringlet curls that held up, even on a humid day. The price was reasonable for what I had done, although some may find it pricey - it's not SuperCuts. Not to be left out is Eunice, who gives one of the best shampoo/scalp massages I have had in recent years. Friendly and with good, strong fingers, she definitely added to an already great experience. If you have curly hair and live in or near Baltimore, I cannot recommend Marty or his salon enough. read more

So found this salon thanks to yelp and ive noticed all the great reviews and 5 stars this salon was given..so saturday 1/18/14 was my appt with Marty to receive a deva cut and iam soooooooooooooooo happy n that is hard to do with me n my hair i am so scared to let anyone cut my hair n i was nervous to the point where i was going to cancel my appt.. iam so glad i didnt because Marty educated me while cutting my hair n really focused on what he was doing...my curls lay so perfect all over not just in one section...ive been getting so many compliments n ive been telling everyone about my deva cut experience with Marty even when iam not asked about my hair i tell people anyway because thats how happy iam..my hair is so manageable now...i have curls all over now not half curls half straight hair...also if anyone is reading this and still unsure about going to mane tamers n want to continue going to the local chain salon where their stylist are forced to get their clients excuse me i mean numbered people in and out the door in 15 mnutes from the time you sit in the beauty chair go ahead remember you get what you pay for.. read more

I was finally ready to accept my curly hair after buying and reading the Curly Girl Handbook. I decided that I would need the perfect cut because what I had was just not working - it was for smooth, straight hair, something I didn't have and never would. I found Mane Tamer and chose Stephanie for my devacut. It was one of the best decisions of my life!! Yes it cost more and yes it took longer but it was sooooo worth it! Not only did she trim each curl, she gave me so many tips and pointers that I think I can finally succeed at being a curly girl. I have been going to this Salon for over 10 years and it is BY FAR the best of any salon I have been to. I do not let anyone else cut my hair. Ever. I have moved away but still only let Marty cut my curly hair (when I visit family in the area). I have tried other places with great reviews (in DC, Boston, NYC), but nothing compares to the time and care Marty puts into cutting curly hair. CJ and Stephanie are also great (Stephanie is wonderful with color), but in my opinion Marty is the best. The atmosphere and personalities in the salon are also always amazing, and the prices are unreal compared to what you pay for the same services in DC or Boston. Just went for my first haircut today with Marty the owner. He is AMAZING!! Did a fantastic cut with my short gray hair and I LOVE it!!! He even gave me tips on how to treat gray hair. From the nice lady at the front desk to the sweet lady who washed my hair to Marty who gave me such a terrific professional hairstyle, it was a wonderful experience! Marty is a miracle worker for curly girls. I was a bit hesitant to spend so much for the devacut, but after going from salon to salon asking for a cut that complimented my 2b curls, I was willing to pay what was necessary to get a style that was easy work with. My daughter had a deva haircut by CJ. It was amazing! My daughter has really thick curly hair( 3c to 4a) and CJ was not intimidated by it at all and took her time to listen and gave my daughter amazing curl pattern, style that she can manage and a cut that she loves.
