Mane + Skin is such a cute salon! I've been going to Ciara once a year for almost 7 years now, back when Mane was "Alchemy" and when Ciara was at Mirror Mirror in Morgan Hill. The salon itself is clean, the girls who work there are all friendly, and you can't go wrong with any of the hairstylists there. Ciara is my go-to and always will be while she's still local, but Mane + Skin is a solid spot for a more luxury cut and color where you'll leave feeling great and having healthy, gorgeous hair! Regardless of where I've lived, I've always made the drive down to see Painted Hair by Ciara specifically at this salon, because she does a phenomenal job every time. My hair looks and feels great after seeing her, she listens to what I ask for, and the colors the girls use LAST a long time. I can go 8-9 months after my appointment before it really starts to fade, and I can get away with my one-a-year treat to go see her in the Spring or Summer time. Review is for Starr. Found her on IG, her pictures seemed fair, reasonable work especially for Gilroy! It's been hard finding a good local stylist. I went the first time for all over highlights and touch up. She doesn't talk or have a bubbly personality, complete different experience. Long story short, I left with a bad blow dry, barely any product and tons of fly aways. I get home and the highlight is HORRIBLE. The top of my head looks like a leopard, no blend to my root whatsoever. I messaged Starr the next day and she agreed to fix it. Again the process was very fast and she tells me she can't blow dry. If it don't look right to go back. I leave the salon with my head drenched, only to come home and see the product still on my scalp and the problem still visible. At that point I didn't bother to call her back. I went back to my hair dresser to correct the problem. I would not go back. In my experience, she lacks experience, needs more training & customer service skills. The salon is decent, could be better. read more

I booked online with Starr, she responded to me super fast and we discussed pricing and details. The shop is so nice and the staff i got to meet that day we're all the sweetest. Starr had a lot on her hands as my hair was very long, thick and yes.... I had some box dye on it (don't do that people lol) before she was even done i was so happy! This is just a review for the hair stylist Starr Fries: I've known her since middle school so I thought I'd go and support her! I love the way she did my hair and I thought she would be equally as gifted in extensions. I was so wrong. She bought the wrong hair extensions color, ignored my concerns, my hair extensions did not blend, and she actually trimmed down my real hair to the point where it looks horrible without extensions! Plus she would ignore my initiations to start a conversation to talk with her stylist friends. Completely unprofessional. I went to her three times to try and fix her mistakes. Then when I was upset that the final results wasn't what I wanted, she just cancelled my appointment. I spent more than $1800 on the extensions and her attempts to correct her mistakes. I am pretty dissapointed with the service and when I contacted sam about this, She made it clear that she doesn't do refunds but would attempt to lift them again or give a portion back for her time and not product used. I decided it wasnt worth it to return to this place. I also scheduled my appointment 5 days in advance. The day of my appointment, she messaged me an hour before the service asking to reschedule. I live in Monterey so an hour notice is clearly not enough time. Anyway, I read her message once I reached Gilroy and explained to her my situation. She agreed to not cancel and take me in. This was my first time getting this service and I was also cutting off some length and making a huge change. I don't recommend this place. I won't go into the whole ordeal and rather leave the girls name out that did such a horrible job because she did refund most of my money. She missed the top of my hair for highlights, bottom half was a pretty color but not what I asked for. She tried to fix it but the top was redish, I would call it strawberry. And it was blotched. She used a gold toner when I asked for ash. Sam owns this place? She needs to show some respect . She really pushed my buttons and the reason I decided to wright this review. Ashley is such a talented stylist! She does EXACTLY what I ask for and has AMAZING recommendations based on what you want and your hair needs. I started going to her a few years ago when she graduated and I'll never look for another stylist. I love the way she colors my hair, it has so much dimension and it is blended perfectly. I just recently went to Alchemy for the first time as my hairstylist, Ashley just moved over to this salon. I gotta say, I dig the vibe, very relaxing and soothing... you really do leave your problems at the door when you enter. The elements of wood and several plants really bring life into the place. As far as my service goes, Ashley has been my stylist for about a year and a half now. She's taken me from drab to fab over and over again. We've done blonde, pastel colors, highlights and at the moment we're currently doing fun colors like purple and magenta. I really love the creativity she exhibits and appreciate her honest input about what's possible and what's not possible in one appointment. Although I was hesitant to try someone new after having such a good experience with my last gal, I scheduled a Brazilian and brows appointment with Sam, open-minded about the sugaring technique. Amanda has done my hair twice and my lashes twice and I love how everything has turned out! The first time Amanda did my hair, I wanted a rainbow on the underside of my recently box dyed black hair. She did a perfect job going from black to blonde before adding the color! I loved how vibrant all of the colors in the rainbow turned out and she touched up my roots that were growing in brown so I would have completely black hair on top of the rainbow. After that color faded, she did blue and green on the underside of my hair and it looked absolutely beautiful, like a mermaid. My lashes were a huge hit. I have sensitive skin and eyes and was worried the lashes might really bother me, but they didn't and the looked fabulous. All my co workers and friends loved my lashes. I originally made an appointment online for Samantha but when a conflict arose in time she quickly helped me get switched to Ashley.
