Anyone else I've dealt with for a water softener demands to come to my house to show me what I need (ie: upsell), but they were able to ask me a few questions and determine my needs based on our conversation, their knowledge, and pictures of the plumbing where the softener would sit. And I loved that they showed up in a mask - one of the first times anyone I've dealt with related to my house (builders, contractors, repairmen, plumber, etc) has since I moved in. He also was very good about not coming too close to me so I never was forced to step away and explain why I'm trying to get away from him. Beyond that customer service appreciation, what can I say? They sold me and installed a water softener which is what I wanted, and the price is on par with what I could get elsewhere (if not slightly less). I was fairly confident he was giving a fair price considering what he would have charged to install a water softener if I purchased it elsewhere was half of what the other plumbers I called would charge - and more in line with what I was charged when I had one installed in my last home.
