We went wanting a beard shaping and shave. I mean, we got that, but there were sections on his neck that weren't shaved, it wasn't a close shave, and there was hair left all over him. His shirt and face had hair everywhere. The shape wasn't done very well at all, it left his beard going into the corners of his mouth. Upon closer inspection at home, his neck shave is crooked. What's the point if you have to go home and shave more? The vibe wasn't very welcoming, so we left. Tragic, as I had high hopes for this place becoming a regular visit to KK. No cut for past 6 months did not intimidate the skilled and charming Navma in the LEAST! She got to work, and did a careful, through job that left me completely satisfied with a fantastic look. Why 4 stars? Because I enjoyed my experience here, but it's definitely an expensive haircut. --- --- --- After moving to the area a few months earlier, I find myself on the hunt for a regular barber. My first trip to another shop resulted in a pretty terrible haircut, so this time, I opted to check out ManBasics because it had the best reviews of any barbershop within a few miles of my house. My haircut was infinitely better here than it was at the first place I tried. They even offered me beer when I arrived! I declined but I was kind of pondering how one drinks a beer while chunks of hair are flying all over the place. I'll have to find out first-hand next time. My haircut was listed online to be $45, but apparently I got $10 off. Maybe for being a first timer? I'm not sure. But it jumped back up near $50 after tip, which includes the discount. I'm happy I came here and the girl did a great job, but $50 for a haircut is a bit excessive. Next time, I will probably check out another nearby spot, but it's good to know that this is here if I strike out elsewhere. read more

After not getting my hair cut for 3 years (COVID doo) I opted to get it cut and donate my hair to an organization that supports cancer kids. Gloe did an amazing job accommodating me on short notice and gave a great cut with equally great conversation. Atmosphere was awesome and all the staff were laid back and very approachable. Read the business description before booking an appointment as it stated that they only hired only the best. I'm sure that the people working there are professionals and do their best in their profession; however, my experience and haircut I received was not what I asked for even after explaining and showing pictures of my last haircut. It was clear to me that the person cutting my hair was not paying attention to my request and proceeded to cut my hair according to what he thought was best and did not come close to my request. I don't know if I would recommend anyone to get their haircut here. In all fairness, this is only my experience with only one of the barbers so I can't speak for the rest of the staff. read more

Jeanette cut my sons hair and did a terrible job. I will never go back. His hair looks horrible. I paid almost $50 for it, and stupidly, I tipped her for her time. I called for them to ask if they could please fix it. At first, they planned on charging me again but then said they would do. My son decided not to go back because he was so embarrassed. read more

ManBasics has helped me be a rock star either way. I'm currently sporting a beard, and their store-made Whiskey Old Fashioned beard balm is the BEST! I use their shaving soap in my ManBasics shaving mug, when I'm doing that sort of thing. I no longer live in Houston, so I don't get haircuts there, but I do make a point to order online what products I can. Shipping is a breeze. Last time I was there, I was turned on to Angels Envy bourbon. Good golly! The live music (in the speakeasy part) kicked butt too. And maybe, if you're real nice and the owner is there, he'll bust out the guitar and sing you a song too! Coming back to Houston this fall for a quick visit. Okay, it's not cheap. It's the most I've ever paid for a haircut, but it was also a lot more than a haircut. I would recommend KK for the pride she takes in her work. The process was an experience, from haircut, to massage, to beard trim, to shampoo and another head massage, KK was amazing! This is a superb spot to get a world class cocktail! I was pleasantly surprised to discover some of the best live music that I have ever heard here. They also have a phenomenal barbershop that is accessible through a "hidden" door in a bookshelf. I give a 2 star ONLY because the bartender was very friendly. My husband had longer hair and decided to cut it off so he was a little unsure of how short he wanted it cut. The lady cut his hair a length he wasn't happy with (pretty quickly too). When he wanted it shorter she told him she would have to charge him for a second hair cut.... A SECOND HAIR CUT?!?!?! Never in my life have I heard of a stylist saying "I'll have to charge to for a second cut". It wasn't even close to the picture I showed her, no one waiting in line and they still had 30 minutes before closing. Very unhappy and will not return. read more
