Wow, wow, and wow is how I will start my review! I found this place by accident a few months ago and meant to go, but did not. I am so glad that I finally did go. Mama Inés is an amazing restaurant disguised as an amazing café. My friend and I walked in and were a little confused if we order at the counter or at our table. But, a nice waiter told us that he would come to us and get our orders. He was the only waiter in the restaurant so we waited for a few minutes, but it was so worth it. We decided to order the menú del día, which had just a few choices, but all of them sounded and from checking out the other tables looked delicious. My friend decided on a salad to start, for second the albondigas, and to drink cerveza. I selected to start with the fish cake, for second the albondigas, and to drink a glass of red wine.
Our food took a little while to come out, but again was worth it. My friends salad was a mix of spinach and summer greens topped with chunks of feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, and a sprinkle of nuts and a light dressing. All of it came together so well and was very tasty and flavorful. My fish cake was not what I was expecting at all. It literally was a thick slice of cake, but with tuna and a mix of spices. The tuna was topped with a thick slice of cheese and surrounded by a hearty cream sauce and open oysters. Every bite left me yearning for more and more! The cake could've been my meal by itself as it was super hearty, but I had more coming!
Finally our main dishes came and I was surprised by the size of the albondigas. There were three hearty meatballs a little smaller than golf balls on my plate. The meatballs were surrounded by a rich and thick red sauce with vegetables. Every bite tasted like heaven and again I did not want it to end again. If I could have licked the plate I would have. The albondigas was not spicy, but had a great amount of flavor with the onions, garlic, and cilantro. I wanted to order some more meatballs, but my stomach said no.
To finish we both ordered coffees, so we were unable to try their cakes, which looked delicious as well. I definitely recommend mama inés café as the food is amazing and it is a way from the super touristy restaurants on gran vía. Plus their menú del día is only 10.50 euro, so such a wonderful deal for wonderful food! Go!! read more
