I was only able to get tickets for the AFH for a 6:15 p.m. tour, meaning we got finished around 8 p.m. Hence, this became our late dinner option that day. I wasn't sure how busy they would be, but I guess we arrived late enough so that they had a few tables available. The restaurant is located on a fairly busy street (served by trams, which we later used to get back to the Central Station area). It is only a few doors down from one of the canals. The menu indicated that they had been in business since the 1980s, so they must be doing something right. As an added reference point, they are about a 20-minute walk from the Central Station. We arrived and were greeted and shown to a table near the front of the restaurant. It seemed to extend quite a way back, but I didn't have a reason to venture further in. Our server was friendly and provided menus and took our drink orders. I know they had wine but I don't know if they had a full bar. There were certainly several tables of Americans and Brits who appeared to be well served in that regard, so maybe there was a bar... The menu was fairly extensive, with an appreciable overlap with dishes we were familiar with from Indian places in the U.S. We all found something to our taste. I think we ended up with a couple of vegetarian curry dishes and one that was chicken-based. We also got naan and rice. Everything was good, and given the lateness of dinner (for us), we were hungry. When the food came out, they also brought one warming stand per dish. This was something new that we encountered at a couple of restaurants on this trip. This is probably more relevant in the winter months, but it kept the food hot. I'd likely return here for another meal if I'm ever back in Amsterdam.

But this was the worst that we have experienced anywhere in the world. We ordered for the Taj Mahal combo which was a meal for 4. The onion bhajji was hard and felt a little stale. The samosa was passable. Decent filling but dripping of oil. The main course consisted of 4 curries. Lamb was passable with very little taste. Chicken was sweet. Prawn was decent. Good flavor and the right blend of spices. Tandoori chicken was the worst. It was definitely not fresh. Looked like it had come out of the freezer and heated up. In dessert we ordered for kulfi, ice cream and chai. The kulfi was old. It did not have the creaminess of milk. Not sure how it was made. But the ice cream tasted divine in front of the kulfi. Chai was the best item that we had in the evening. The invoice presented to us was scribbled on a piece of paper. We asked for a proper invoice with KvK number. The owner refused to provide that and started shouting at us. He passed some really nasty racist comments. My 9 yr son started crying after this and we had to pay and leave quickly. The restaurant is run by a guy from Bangladesh. So it is definitely not an indian restaurant. I would advice to avoid it by a mile.
