We had a great time at Mammoth Distillery! It was snowing like crazy so we chose to stay close to our air BnB and walk everywhere. There is a ton to do in this area and we were excited to find this spot. It's a very charming spot that is bigger than it looks. The bar area is rather small but there is a ton of seating. There is even a back room. They are happy to rent the space out for parties etc. the bartender was wonderful and we were able to chat with the owner for a bit. Very friendly and informative. You can even make your own bottle or several id you want. That is on our to do list when we come back. Can't wait!! read more

Our Kayak bike and brew tour was suppose to end at workshop brewing, but due to poor communication they were closed. While everyone on the tour was upset, my significant other, and I decided to go into Mammoth. This place is right behind workshop brewing, and we were very happy with our choice. As we walked in we immediately noticed that they had live music. This was a definite win. The decor was very inviting with beautiful tables and large comfortable chairs. It was a small, casual setting but the decor also said that dressing up was also acceptable. We wound up choosing to sit at the bar. There was 3 bartenders, and they were all awesome. Our favorite was the older gentleman. He wound up sitting, and talking to us all night. He gave us tons of local hidden secrets to visit. Wound up sharing stories back and forth, and he also opened up about his goals and aspirations. Was, hands down, some of the best, and most personable service. I ordered the salty Dawson to start, and it was delicious. So good that we stayed to try another. I wound up ordering la picante because I love spicy drinks. The la picante was so amazingly good that I wound up ordering 4 of them. We wound up closing the bar down, and I bought 3 bottles of mammoth label gin, vodka, and whiskey. All recommended by the bartender of course. :)... I, myself, bartended in Vegas for a few years, and drank in many of of the best craft cocktail bars in Vegas for most of my adult life. This drink was definitely one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Overall, this was the best part of our visit to traverse city. For being a bar that we visited due to a tour hiccup, we couldn't of been more happy. The cutest place with tasty drinks! Just had a drink outside a couple months ago, and had a barrel-aged old fashioned and it was delicious! Super cute inside, I'd love to get back there sometime when it's cooler out, especially in the winter as there is a cozy feel inside. This place isn't the easiest to find as it is behind a popular brewery and kind of set back. The service was adequate, but nothing to write home about. We wanted to go directly to Mammoth to get some of their gin & Wooly Rye, since we were going thru TC on our way to the Leelanau Peninsula. We did a tasting and were helped by a gal behind the bar (originally from Troy MI). She did a GREAT job, very friendly, informative & hospitable but we neglected to get her name. She was exceptional! This is one of several locations in the upper part of the lower peninsula for this business. We visited it kind of an off time, primarily because I wanted to purchase a bottle of their cherry jubilee whiskey. A wonderful product with a unique flavor balance. We opted to have a cocktail during our visit, and I was very pleased to say all the right mix ologies ingredients behind the bar. The bartender was efficient and got our drinks out to us in short order. I ordered the central Lake sour, and was pleased with both the presentation, and the complex taste. Number 1: you cannot have a beer at the brewery and a drink in the distillery at the same time, so if you want whiskey and your friends want a beer, you have to sit in different rooms. You cannot even sit out on the patio together. We came in on a bus tour with 23 other peeps. We thought we had a confirmed reservation, which they said was the bus company's miscommunication. Whether we had a reservation or not, the employee (manager?) in the distilling area was extremely rude and kicked us out to the patio, which was waay nicer than the hot, dark, little room we were in. My drink of choice is usually a Manhattan, which I ordered with another person in our group. We both thought the drinks were undrinkable. They did replace them with different drinks, which were better, hence the 2-star review. My friends say the brewery was nice, but we all said we wouldn't come back because of the segregation and the rude employee/manager in the distillery. read more

Really good little local distillery with cool interior. They had a bunch of craft cocktails and you could purchase bottles to go as well. I had purchased a bottle of whiskey downstate and didn't realize until later that it was a Michigan distillery. The quality of their spirits is really good! The bartenders were friendly and explained all about Mammoth as well as the cocktails they were serving. Came here with my wife & sons while on a trip up north and couldn't have been happier with the experience. We ended up buying 3 bottles, a single barrel 15 year whiskey, a barrel proof gin (that was amazing!) and a high-proof bottle of Hazmat. This was our 2nd stop of the day at a distillery for tasting but there was a clear winner and no need to go back to the other place. All the Mammoth spirits we tried were very good. Hunter, Nicole and Grace were some of the best servers I've had in a long time, very cool and polite, and they took the time to explain the different bottles and flavors. I had a gin drink with blueberry that was just the right balance of sweetness and tartness. They have tasting available to sample their variety of liquors but I am not that brave! Free vodka, rum, gin, whiskey, AND chocolate? I was won over before I stepped inside the door. Stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon with family. We happened to bike by and luckily saw a standup sign out by the road. It is easy to miss because it's tucked away off the beaten path. For now, they are just a tasting room with a full cocktail lounge set-up coming in the fall. You can try up to 4 samples and can purchase something from their "mocktail menu". I tried a sample of vodka, rum, gin, and whiskey (because why not?) and all were delicious. The gin has a very strong lavender note which was unique and tasted delicious with the lavender pear lemonade mocktail. The building has a very cool industrial feel and the employees were fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the craft. Definitely a place you can hang out all day at, and I will definitely be back next time I'm in Traverse City! read more

During our last night in Traverse City, we wanted to stop in to try a craft cocktail. We enjoyed the place so much we ended up staying the entire evening. The staff were really great, super friendly and kept the drinks coming. We tried a few drinks on the menu but the standout for me was the Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot. It had a delicious spice, not too sweet. The atmosphere was fun, they had live music which we had a blast singing along with. Will definitely come back when we return to Traverse. read more

For one, every single one of our flights was incorrect. The order was totally mixed up. The bigger issue was that none of the options are labeled! Wowie, wow, wow! What great spirits they serve here. I wish I could remember the name of the nice young guy who waited on us, because he could not have been more accommodating. They have so many interesting spirits that we couldn't decide, so he offered to give us a quick taste of whatever we asked for. Wow - great customer service, for which he was rewarded as we walked out with beaucoup bottles, lol. My wife really enjoyed the coffee liqueur, so we took 2 bottles. 9 year old Northern rye proofed at 99%? We took another two bottles. This rye is definitely more grain forward than most rye whiskies I've enjoyed. Although they also have excellent rums & clear spirits, we are bourbon & rye folks. So I was shocked that they allowed us to sample their rather pricey top shelf bourbon, aged for an incredible 17 years. Was even MORE shocked that my wife allowed me to actually BUY a bottle. Mammoth distillery is a hidden gem in downtown Traverse City. It's located in a shared building (south side) with the Workshop. Impact100TC held a recruitment event there and the drinks and service were outstanding! 23 of us felt specially cared for because we had our own space in the back of the venue and the waiters exceeded our expectations. The vibe of this distillery is casual, cool and welcoming. I recommend any local or visitor to drop in and try one of the many creative, original cocktails. They sell their bottled alcohol and quality Mammoth logo products over-the-counter to take home and enjoy or give as a great gift. Good stuff!!!!!! read more
