Not the kind of place I'd do my regular grocery shopping if I was local, but these small supermarkets are important to their communities. I wish my local small market hadn't closed up two years ago in my little town, it makes shopping a bit more of a challenge now. Again, as others have stated, prices are slightly higher than your larger retailers. But this store offers some unique items, the deli is outstanding, and the fried chicken is excellent. Yeah, the store is nice & clean, but I imagine the higher prices on stock reflect that level of staffing. The parking lot can be a mini adventure to navigate, but I try to get here early to avoid too much hassle. And since Whole Foods in Avon is a 20 mile round trip for me, I only come here to shop occasionally.

Depending on when you come sometimes they run out of what you're looking for like specific breads, yogurt, etc. On specific days they also have additional discounts like buy one get one 50% off on sushi and they discount things coming close to expiration like cookies and salad kits. They also still give out free paper bags, even at self checkout.

He must have thought I was trying to steal something because I was looking at stuff on the shelves, taking them down and putting them back afterwards. When I went to the register he stopped watching what I was doing. The cashier asked if I found everything I needed and rang me up. But then you have all the personal touches that make it clear they have their local customer in mind. On the door, it lets you know they sell school supplies. They have a cooler with locally made Avery's soda. The area designation signs are handmade. They have frozen homemade food, including pizza! There's homemade bakery items and cooler goods, including fresh muesli. How cool is that? But even more amazing, the owner makes spices, including rubs and curry powder. And we both agreed that the Whitneyville Food Center is as good an Italian deli and grocery store as we have ever visited. When you walk in, you're greeted by long aisles of fruits and vegetables, baked goods, grab and go showcases, prepared salads, deli meats and cheeses, steaks and pork and chicken and sausages, canned goods, pastas, breads and rolls, and lots of grocery items. We picked up 3/4 pound of ground veal ($7.69) for a Thanksgiving Bolognese, a huge 3.5 oz. coconut almond chocolate chip soft biscotti ($3.25), and two deli sandwiches. The sandwiches were on a hard roll and were priced at just $8 each for a pretty good sized sandwich. My Italian Combo had plenty of ham, pepperoni, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a super sift fresh hard roll. I had half for lunch today and the other half went into the fridge for tomorrow. The customer service was fantastic. The gent in the butcher department was very personable and funny, and the guy who made our sandwiches was friendly and professional. Put everything together, and this was an easy Five Star experience.
