Great food and great service. Been going for years at this point and have no intention of stopping

I think the secret to success in business is to do one thing and do it well. Seriously, all it takes is one idea or one niche. I believe that's why Mama's Ladas in Sioux Falls is so popular. Mama's Ladas is a hole in the wall. You could walk right by it and miss it if you aren't paying attention. We were looking for it because several of the locals had recommended it. We were greeted immediately with a smile and nachos. There was nothing special about the chips, but when you dipped them into the chunky house made salsa they were spectacular. I love a good chunky salsa. She also handed us a menu. I knew they were an Enchilada shop and wine bar, but I didn't realize that enchiladas were all you could order. You have two choices - a full order (2 enchiladas) or half (1 enchilada) and if you want it to be beef or chicken. We made our choices and enjoyed more of the salsa. The restaurant utilized the small space for maximum seating. There was even a bar that wrapped around the front of the restaurant (it was behind me). They moved quickly and it seemed that you could get in, eat, and get out pretty fast. Finally our enchiladas arrived and they were amazing! I am so glad that I ordered the two enchiladas. They were perfect and I loved the sauce. I was amazed at how packed they were. They also have a wine bar and you can purchase sangria gift baskets. If you're a fan of enchiladas you need to stop by Mama's Ladas. You won't regret it. read more

We wanted to like this place, but it was really disappointing and I'm not sure how they're still in business at such a good location with what they're offering. I'd save the salsa with store-bought, but I swear it had clean olives in it, and I can't think of a brand that puts those in their salsa. But it was fridge temp cold, so were the store bought tortilla rounds. Enchilada options consist of 1. chicken (mild), 2. vegetarian (broccoli and cheese?? and we were told it takes 40 minutes), and 3. beef (spicy). we didn't necessarily want something super spicy, but we also didn't want to wait 40 minutes for the broccoli and cheese enchilada, so we both got the chicken. The most bland, "white people taco night" thing we've had eating out ever. They also sat us in the alleyway patio dining area, even though the place was completely empty, which would've been fine, it's very cute out there. Except it was a very windy day, even windier in that tunnel, which made all of our chips literally fly off our plate. We had a great time! But that's because it was so comically bad we couldn't help but laugh. read more

Just had to stop in and try this. Always a succor for some Mexican. Their menu is really easy. The service was welcoming. We ordered full meal with one chicken and one beef. The beef was bitter and a tad bit spicy so be aware. I didn't think it was too authentic. Tasted like chili from a can. The chicken was really good. Tender and flavorful. The toppings were fresh. I had the strangest salsa here at Mama's Ladas. It was extremely thick and full of olives, corn, and mushrooms. The base seemed like it was made from tomato paste or from hours of cooking down tomatoes. It was still quite tasty, but a definitely interesting take on your classic salsa. I ordered a half order of beef enchiladas. It reminded me of cooked ground beef mixed with the taco seasoning you buy at a grocery store. Everything was delicious, but I didn't feel like it was quite authentic (which is surprising because this restaurant specializes, and only sells, enchiladas). read more

We are in Sioux Falls & saw this small & charming looking Mexican Enchilada restaurant with many people eating there. We thought we'd check it out, & it was very good. It is a small place but has big flavor. We started with an order of chips & salsa. The salsa was a very unique & highly unusual blend of tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, corn, cumin, & other ingredients. The flavor was wonderful & one-of-a-kind. I had a beef & a chicken enchilada. The beef enchilada reminded me of a beefy chili with a little bit of heat to it. Fresh and delicious. This place serves enchiladas and wine period and does it perfectly. The atmosphere is very cozy even with the brick walls and ductwork in the ceiling. The waitress was helpful. We tried a chicken enchilada, a beef enchilada, and the special shrimp and spinach enchilada. I've never had mushrooms in my salsa before, but it was really great. The guacamole was also very fresh. I'm just sorry that I don't live in Sioux Falls so I can't eat here all the time. read more

Not good. Surreal and strange... Mama Ladas and the entire experience was/is bizarre for me. Not sure what's worse, the food from Mamas or the fact that so many yelpers have given this such a favorable review? From the odd and somewhat limited menu to the fact that they are a Mexican themed restaurant and they do Not serve margaritas. It's like a Black Mirror episode. Coming from Arizona trying enchiladas here was a very disappointing experience. The tortillas had that spongey out-of-a-bag texture and chemical preservative flavor, and were not properly prepared into enchiladas. As other reviewers have mentioned, the chips were not made in-house either. Take that as the first bad sign because fresh tortilla chips are something every single mexican restaurant worth going to will serve you. I have to agree with other reviewers that the good reviews come from people who personally know the owners, or have never had good mexican food - but probably both. read more

Get in when u can during lunch rush hour But pretty open outside of that. The enchiladas are heaven- had all three and coming from the south - did not disappoint ! Absolutely avoid this place at all costs. If you go downstairs to the bathroom you will see why.... All of their food is made from cans. Nothing fresh at all, overpriced, bland, and plain out disgusting food. If you crave their flavor so bad... Go to nearest grocery store, buy the cheapest ingredients and make it yourself. It will taste better, and be more than half the price. Additionally the management is horrendous and doesn't know how to respond to an upset customer. One more thing.... They have olives in their "salsa", or as it should be called... canned tomato paste with drained canned nasty ingredients. This was my second time visiting, and this time we just stopped in for nachos and sangria mid-afternoon. The green sangria was a nice touch for St. Paddy's Day. The homemade sangria was the bright spot to our visit. The nachos were bland and needed hot sauce for flavor. My sister thought the chicken tasted like it was from a can. This is a gem of a place that far exceeded my expectations for a Monday night dinner in Sioux Falls. Simple menu but you know that limited options means they're really good at what they do. Red or white sangria and beef, chicken or broccoli and cheese enchiladas, chips and salsa or guac all for $12. Not bad for a filling dinner. Oh and my favorite part is that you can get a "half order" of enchiladas (which means that you get one instead of two). Just the right size for me! What a special place. We stopped in Sioux Falls and found this restaurant on a walk. A simple menu of delicious enchiladas, chips, guacamole, and the best salsa I have ever had. There are three types of enchiladas--chicken, beef, and veggie. I had the beef enchilada which was wonderful with a glass of red sangria (they have white sangria also). And...an atmosphere that is fun with lights and art. Highly recommend. By the way, Sioux Falls is an interesting city to stop in on a road trip--walking paths along the river, shops and restaurants open in the evening, art show on the streets. Mama's Ladas is an enchilada restaurant downtown Sioux Falls. It is different to say the least. It is quite small and sortof reminds me of a small coffee diner. There is a lot going on and it is kind of loud and cramped inside. When I first got there, there was nowhere to sit and there was maybe 10-12 customers in the place. I ended up sitting at the bar where I was back to back with another customer. The restaurant, as you can guess, consists of Enchiladas. I am not aware of other menu options but that seemed to be the gist of it. I ended up getting a Broccoli and Cheese enchilada and wisely only chose for 1 as that was a generous enough serving. In addition, I ordered a home-made Sangria which wasn't bad. There was multiple flavors of Sangria offered. Overall, the restaurant was good and the service was prompt. The seating sucked, especially for a Friday night. I wouldn't not try it though as the food was truly good. It was a unique dining experience from the typical Mexican restaurant fare and worth hitting up again. read more

Mama Ladas Enchiladas may sound like a nursery rhyme or something, but do not be fooled. These guys don't mess around. They make food. Correction: they make Enchiladas, which Are in fact one of the main food groups. There is so much brilliance involved here. Basically you have one option. Enchiladas. Within that one option, you do have a few small options. You can get beef or chicken and sometimes they have specials. Like broccoli and cheese or shrimp. I got one small enchilada of each of the specials which makes a full enchilada meal. Excellent choice. Apparently the salsa is very controversial. Some people hate it but I personally loved it. How can you go wrong with a salsa that has massive hunks of mushrooms and olives and such in it? There isn't much more that can be said here. Enchilada? Yes, come here. No enchilada? Last week, after driving to several locations in attempt to have dinner, we ended up here, which is where we had initially thought would go to but was hesitant due to yelp review read about the salsa having olives. Another part of me was hesitant because I've known enchiladas to be dressed with too much sauce --I dislike soggy. So, we went and it was a short wait but ordered spirits as we waited to be seated. The white sangria was refreshing. Beef enchiladas - We would go back for because we loved the heat. Chicken enchiladas - were ok as they did not have as much heat as the beef. Chips and guacamole - We would pass on this next time since the dish already comes with the mediocre chips. It's quite unfortunate the chips are not homemade. Guac was good and tastes homemade. I hate to sound arrogant but being from Austin Texas, I have honestly not found good Mexican up north...until now. Wow, what an amazing restaurant. A wonderful blend of flavors.
