I'm visiting Sioux Falls from California for and saw this place on yelp. I figured with great reviews I should give it a try and I'm glad I did. The food here is delicious! I would be willing to say the turpido and burrito are better than any I have tried in California. Highly recommend trying this place.

We were driving through Sioux Falls and saw this place had good reviews so we decided to take a chance and try it. Our expectations were exceeded. We agreed that it was the best burrito we have ever had. There were two people working and both of them were very kind. They do not have indoor seating. It is a to-go style restaurant. We took our food down to the falls park. Ended the day with great food and a great view!

My My wife, knowing I love little authentic restaurants, took me to Hernandez to go. Sounds as authentic Mexican as you can get. It's a very small place, basically a lunch to go deal. They had 3 people working that were very helpful. A fridge filled with drinks from Mexico. A stack of tortillas they make in house. We order some chicken and steak tacos. The food was ready in 5 mins. The food was good. Chicken was dry, but the homemade tortillas and the sauce were really tasty. When combined with a price of $2.50 a taco that is stuffed full, this place is a great go-to for a quick lunch. I'll definitely be back for the burrito. Make sure you bring cash, no cards accepted! BY FAR YHE BEST MEXICAN FOOD I'VE HAD IN THE MID-WEST. I'm from California, I know a good taco. This is the place to go if you're passing through or live locally. It's run out of a Tortilleria shop. No sitting. Take out only. Mom & Pop shop. They also have beverages. Portions - great. Taco - great. They have a burrito on the menu which is chicken - great. Salsa = to die for. Spicy! CASH ONLY. GO!

This place is absolutely incredible. The tacos are authentic and delicious, made just the right way - two tortillas, a mountain of steak or al pastor pork, cilantro onions and a lime wedge. That's it. The ingredients are all high-quality, they make the tortillas in house, and it is as authentic a Mexican meal as you're going to get anywhere in the greater Sioux Falls area. I'd rate it 6 stars if I could.

We needed a quick breakfast to go. Homemade tortillas I said must try. Very welcoming and one of the best burritos I have had. The salsa was delicious as well. Mexican drinks on hand even.

Best lunch in Sioux Falls hands down. The Torta is bomb. The burrito is also bomb. A must go when in the area.

Overall it's probably four stars, but the extra star is because Gili-b's is open 24/7…read more Probably everyone in Sioux Falls knows this spot as a place that's great for late night food after consuming horrifying amounts of alcohol, but did you know it's actually BETTER in the daytime? A rarity for late-night drunk food spots, Gili-b's is actually some super legit Mexican food. I've come here for lunch dozens of times when the food and kitchen is fresh, the customers are sober, and the employees aren't stressed by a bunch of drunken jerks asking for ridiculous orders and demanding their food be ready with the speed of Taco Bell. Since I'm gluten free, the street tacos are my go-to. Nothing better than meat in corn tortillas, topped off with onions and cilantro. What else do you need? Alright, their salsas and sauces are also excellent. My favorites are the chorizo, carnitas, carne asada, chicharron and lengua (unfortunately they are sometimes sold out of this one). Plus a tamarind Jarritos. Our last meal before moving from Sioux Falls was here (sober and in the daytime), and anytime I'm back in town I'm heading here IMMEDIATELY.

Our orders are very rarely correct anymore. And if they are, they're disappointing. The steak is…read moreovercooked and chewy. The vegetable burrito contained lettuce, beans, spoonful of cheese, and pico de gallo. Not a single vegetable on it?! Ordered cheese enchiladas and got chicken. Do you not ask for pico de gallo, ranchero or enchilada sauce because all you'll get is their hot spicy salsa. My children do speak fluent Spanish so there should not be a language barrier. What once was the up-and-coming best takeout restaurant in Sioux Falls, which could be franchised, has turned into overpriced takeout. With competition being fierce amongst new authentic Mexican takeout, They need to both step up their game and get back to reasonable pricing.

After I got there, I looked up the health department reviews on Yelp. Let's just say they weren't…read moreencouraging. By that point I was already seated and committed, but that's something I wish I'd checked beforehand. Because of that, I intentionally ordered something that would come out hot. Wasn't about to order a salad or anything that didn't need to be cooked. So I ordered the fajitas with chicken, steak, and shrimp. You know how fajitas are supposed to come out sizzling on a hot plate? These didn't. They weren't cold, but you could definitely tell everything had been sitting back there for an extended amount of time. They didn't taste fresh at all. And it gets worse. Every time I've ordered fajitas with cheese and bacon anywhere else, you get solid melted cheese and crispy bacon. Here? Runny cheese sauce and bacon that had zero crispiness to it. The whole thing was a mess. The meat portions? Ok the pieces were cut up small. I was picking through all the vegetables and onions trying to find actual pieces of chicken and steak. A lot of peppers and onions. The Verdict: Plaza Azteca was a miss. The margaritas were decent but the fajitas were a lukewarm, runny, disappointing mess with small pieces of meat. Combine that with odd service and some concerning health reviews, and this is a two star experience at best. Won't be going back.

But they nailed it on this Sunday! Would have thought I was back at home this place was delicious . The margaritas were beautifully crafted, the table side guacamole lady is hard to find and so refreshing, she nailed it, so good. Each dish was delicious, Sioux Falls is definitely lucky to have this quality Mexican restaurant. Well done Plaza Azteca.

We were sat, had chips and salsa, our appetizer, and our entrees, ate (too much, it was delicious), and paid for our meal all within 20 minutes. Twenty minutes during a rush. I was too busy stuffing my face to take pictures of our food before we ate but everything was presented so well and we had the awesome experience of the flaming cheese appetizer (we are tourists, you gotta get the fun stuff yk). We were both in the mood for Mexican, this was very close and the ratings looked good. The bar looked impressive as we walked in and after we were seated, we started with 24oz Margaritas (see picture) to accompany our free chips, salsa & white sauce (see picture). While the Margaritas were quite large, we both commented that they seemed a bit weak on the alcohol (or it is possible that they used Reposado tequila with less flavor). My wife decided to order the Combo #2 (pork tamale, ground beef enchilada & ground beef hard shell taco - see picture) while I went with the street tacos - Carnitas (pulled pork), Pollo (chicken) & Al Pastor (spit-roasted pork). We both enjoyed the Combo, with my favorite part being the pork tamale. I'm a big fan of corn tortilla street tacos and found them all to be very good - but my favorite was the Al Pastor. A quick Google search indicated that Al Pastor is a spit-roasted pork influenced by Lebanese shawarma - marinated and then cooked on a vertical rotisserie. This carmelizes the edges, resulting in a savory, tangy and slightly sweet flavor. Whatever the science...I found it delicious! If you found this review helpful, please Share, Follow & Like.
