After reading reviews online, I decided to book an appointment with Suliat. When I arrived a few braiders asked what I was there for and I told them medium knotless braids at bra strap length with Suliat. I was then instructed to sit in a chair as she prepped the braiding hair. The shop was nice however there was was a lady that came in that was trying to sell products to the braiders. Later as I am getting my hair braided I discovered that the person doing my hair was not Suliat but I didn't mind because she was nice and was careful with braiding as I have a tender scalp. I got into the shop at 5pm, she began braiding my hair at 5:40 (after prepping the braiding hair) and my hair was complete at 9:30pm. Once complete I felt that the hair was thin at the ends and I asked her to curl the ends to add some volume and she added flexi rods to the end and redipped the ends of the braids. Now, why did I give this experience 2 stars? A few days later out of curiosity I wanted to see the parts in the back and to my surprise the parts are inconsistent with the front. The parts are large in the back instead of medium, not all of the rows are brick layered so you see a lot of my scalp, and the braids looks sparse as if not enough braiding hair was added. Also, there was lot of product build up on the braids. Overall the braids look decent but if the quality of work is not the same as their instagram pictures advertise, then to me it is not worth the $200.

Conversation with owner attempting to reschedule service and photo of my hair

This is anything but a 'luxury' experience. Dealing with the owner of the salon, Mamacita has been one of the most horrific customer service experiences I've had. I've been a customer of the salon for 3 years now and have utilized quite a few of her stylists and booked a range of different hair styles. She denotes her 'luxury' Mamacita braids as one of the most expensive hair styles to book on the salon. I had mine done there about 4 weeks ago and spent $550 plus tip. I made an appointment to retouch my crown in anticipation of a wedding I am attending this week. Please keep in mind that you will prepay a non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and be at the mercy of owner's poor time management skills. Although I had a confirmed appointment, with a deposit on file I was contacted very late on the evening prior to the morning of my service. Having already taken my hair out and wash/dry in preparation for my service. Although I disappointed about the last minute cancellation I was understanding that this was due to an emergency and believed that I would be working with the owner to find a new time to reschedule the appointment. The owner alleged that it was not possible to find another stylist and later offered that she could find a 'Caribbean stylist' (her words) to plait my hair instead, a totally different hair style than 80% of the rest of the braids already in my hair, which were done in this salon just 4 weeks ago. I let the owner know I would like the same braids that I already have in my hair and I would be waiting to hear back to confirm the same service that was unexpectedly cancelled. She promised she would return my call by that afternoon... I still have yet to hear back and have called and texted and even visited the salon in person, anxious to get my hair appointment scheduled in time for a wedding. I'll be reaching out to American Express to dispute the non refundable deposit on my card and will more importantly never return to this salon. It used to be great but the quality of braids and customer service is not equivalent of the price you pay. Have a back up option on deck if you decide to book here. Never again. Screenshots and visuals attached.

Very very disappointed in the service this time! I went to get a touch up for my ombré braids with KG, she was not there for the appointment even though I booked with her, so they had another lady do it. Not only did the lady not match the ombré, the braids aren't even the same size! The picture speaks for itself! And the lady who did my hair was so rude! She was so rough with my hair that even her coworker said something about it in French and she responded that it didn't matter. She was complaining about doing my hair the whole time. And you can tell she didn't want to do it with the final outcome shown. Next time, you should make sure your clients don't understand your language before you talk about them! Because I sat there and heard and understood everything. So unprofessional. She didn't even do all the layers for the touch up and they still charged me $200! Waste of money, I'm embarrassed to even go on vacation like this. Every time someone asks me why my hair is like this I tell them of my horrible service at mamacita

I called, the young lady who answered the phone was very professional and was able to schedule a next day appointment for me. When I arrived, I was greeted by not only the owner, but the guests she had as well. I immediately felt like I was right at home with my "cousins". We laughed and had a good old time. Everyone who came in was so pleasant and it was really a family-like atmosphere. For someone who is extremely family-oriented and is currently away from their family, it was such a welcoming atmosphere. How comfortable everyone was is a testament to how well the owner and staff treat their customers. It was clean, nicely decorated and reasonably priced. There is parking right outside which makes it a breeze. I got a trim and a press. Three days later my hair is still so silky and looks the healthiest it has in months. I will be making this my regular salon and refer anyone who asks me. If you are a down-to-earth person who feeds off of vibes and good energy, this is the place. You will leave with the "joy" you have when you leave family gatherings. Not to mention, you will look beautiful as ever. LyNise is super sweet professional & Safia and Pumkin are soooo funny.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SALON. AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, I GOT A FULL WEAVE AND EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS…read moreMY HAIR. SO MANY COMPLIMENTS. Lylise, the owner of this shop is a very personable and detailed stylist. She specializes in short cuts, but her work isn't limited to just that. I have had my hair cut here and most recently a quick weave. My first cut was with my natural hair, I did not like how it came out, I don't feel she used the right products or styling tools for my hair texture. I'm sure had I told her I didn't like t she would have did whatever it took till I did, but I had been waiting so long I was just ready to get out of there. I had came on a Friday around 12 and it was packed! The next style I received was a quick weave (Google for in depth description of style). I appreciate that she took her time, and used precision throughout the process. She was very helpful when I asked for tips to care and protect the style, being it was my first time getting it. The shop is pretty tight in size, considerably intimate. There are 4 dryers, two wash bowls, three stylist chairs. There is another stylist Safiyah who also specializes in short cuts, and unlike Lylise, the latest weave trends such as "closures." I have seen Lylise do a number of styles, which came out really nice, and is the reason why I came back after the first visit and do recommend this shop. Just know on the weekends and days before holidays there will be a crowd, like most shops. She's closed sun-tues, and says her lighter days are wed and Thursday, but she is open to coming in on her day off if you can come early as the time when she drops the kids off to school.
