Forget the fact that they have great service. Forget the fact that they have great food. Just remember...this is one of the few restaurants that is open for an early dinner. And when I say early,I mean before 7:30. Mama Rosa welcoms you with bruschetta and sparkling wine, then sends you off later with a nice glass of limoncello. Great place for a nice sit down meal close to the duomo and shopping centre! Although it is a little pricier, you can expect great service and lots of extras like a great bread basket (seriously some of the best bread I've had on my trip through Italy) and a glass of Prosecco. I opted for the shrimp salad as a starter that was recommended by my server and it was a fantastic. The shrimp was fresh and the salad was quite simple but very tasty. I had the osso bucco for my main because I wanted to try the signature Milanese dish and I'll have to say that it is quite rich and heavy. More than enough for one person or to be split between two if you're planning on ordering a couple of courses. The fried seafood platter is also quite good, but I'd definitely recommend sharing. My friend ordered the crab pasta but found shells in his pasta so be careful when consuming. We were still charged for it even though we informed them of the shells. Overall, still a good restaurant. Nice, low key white table cloth restaurant There is a remarkable pattern how reviewers came to choose this restaurant. This was our first dinner in Italy after an overnight flight from New York, and like many reviewers it was recommended by the concierge at our hotel. We had a very good experience. We were greeted with complimentary prosecco and bruschetta. The food was very good (salad and sea bass), the recommended wine complemented the meal, the service we experienced was fine, and we liked the ambiance which was white table cloth and quiet. (We were there at 7 p.m. due to the fact that we were adjusting to the change in time, and many restaurants in Italy don't open until 8 p.m.) Under the circumstances it was the perfect place to dine but even after adjusting to the time difference it would be a good choice, based upon our experience. read more

Was in Milan and met up with some friends from New York who happened to also be in Milan at the same time as us and this restaurant did not disappoint. Good solid service and a good sized menu that was cooked to high standards. Would defiantly recommend. read more

Why Mama Rosa Restaurant is a gem: When many restaurants close at 2:30pm to reopen at 7. Mama Rosa stays open throughout. Smart! Our hotel recommeded them because we asked for local, non touristy, Osso Bucco, opened now. It wasn't walking distant either but worth the 10 minute train. Ambience: Beautiful, white linen Italian decor. Brighter than most traditional decor. Service: by Allesandro was REMARKABLE. He spoke English the best way he good which made the experience authentic and him endearing. Invited us to see the huge wine room in the basement full off collectable fine wines and liquors. Our first after dinner Grappa drink was inspired by this basement tour. The food: The saffron risotto perfectly al dente and creamy. The Osso Bucco tender and meaty in it's natural sauce. Yummy! The anchovy appetizer was ok. It was the red saltier kind rather then the white kind. I shiuldn't have went for the apple pie with ice cream. So American. It wasn't done well but the cannolis were which is why one should stick with Italian food in Italy. Overall I would recommend this gem. read more
