    Mama herself.

It's been many years since I had such delicious empanadas. Back then I worked in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn where places selling this type of food were everywhere. My first bite into one of Mama's chicken empanadas, took me back to those days on Broadway and Flushing Ave. I also had a beef one and their Philly Cheesesteak empanada. Both hmm hmm good too. The parking lot is a little difficult if crowded but well worth the attempt. The interior is nothing pretentious. In fact, its simplicity is its charm but not as charming as Mama herself. The young ladies behind the counter were very helpful. Can't wait to go back and try some more of their other empanada creations.

We have eaten at Mama Dees before and this past weekend my wife and I decided to get a sampling of empeñadas. We ordered on Friday to pick Saturday. The shop is clean, and they are always so friendly. The empeñadas we shared were Beef, Chicken, Philly Cheesesteak, Pastelonada, Pizza and Cubanada. They are all good, our favorites being the Beef, Chicken and the Philly Cheesesteak. For dessert we shared an Apple Empeñada, coated with cinnamon sugar. Yum! We also ordered the Pernil platter to share the next night. Tender pork along crispy yucca fries and delicious red beans which we mixed with an order of rice. (The attached photo also shows peas which we fixed at home.) Mama Dees food is good and that's bad Bad because it's so easy to walk down the block and overindulge.

Amazing authentic food from Puerto Rico. Mama Dee's is the place to eat. I promise you will enjoy every part of your meal from the food to the ambiance.

Love, love, LOVE Mama Dee's!! I normally get their empanadas (which are AMAZING!!), this time I ordered the pernil platter with sweet plantains and yellow rice with pease. Everything is fresh, flavorful and filling. The restaurant is really cute, and they have authentic Puerto Rican candies, plus their own line of soda.

having previously lived in WNY, NJ (not one town over) I've had my fill of cheap mediocre empanadas, Mama Dee's are quality!

Our first time at an Asian bakery since moving to Jersey! I funny enough heard about this in…read morepassing and not long after, spotted this place in the same shopping center as the 99 Ranch in Edison and I made a pit stop there (hence no drinks) before going on a grocery run. It was at night on a Saturday so many of the shelves were empty but they still had a few things left. Sunmerry appears to be a chain but one that I have never visited before until now so I can't really comment on what they have, but I did manage to grab: MATCHA CLOUD DONUT - This reminded me vaguely of the im donut donuts I tried in NYC. Very soft and pillowy and filled to the brim with a lightly sweet, matcha filling. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this. RED BEAN MATCHA BAGEL - it's a matcha dough with red bean filling BUT the filling doesn't go all the way around. It goes maybe 65% so if you're splitting this with someone like I did, fingers crossed you both get a decent amount. The bagel was soft and in a bagel shape but it lacked the chew of a bagel. The filling was nice and different but the matcha taste was subtle - if that. Overall, liked the idea, but I wanted more of a bagel chew than what I got and to taste the matcha better. Maybe even have a more even share of the red bean. COFFEE BRIOCHE LOAF - my husband liked this one! Which is good because I got it for him. This is quite good. Soft, lightly sweet with a coffee top. We ate this maybe 12 hours after and much of the top layer had "melted" and gotten on the cellophane but it was still delicious. Perfection. I definitely scraped off the coffee bits from the cellophane so it didn't go to waste. PINEAPPLE BUN W/ MILK - I grabbed this one thinking there was a filling inside and there wasn't. I don't know if the bun was placed in the wrong location or the name is telling me the bun isn't vegan but it's a good pineapple bun but without anything inside, it was a tad dry. Maybe it needs a pat of butter like they do in HK. MELON PAN - I haven't had this in a good long while so I got it for fun. It's smaller than the pineapple bun and the topping is a little sweeter - I remember crunching on sugar crystals. It's not bad but also not filled so it's a tiny bit on the dry side. The place has tables to the side where you can enjoy your goodies. I didn't stay too long but they definitely serve drinks and delicious cakes as well. The staff were nice and the place seemed on the dim side. Fingers crossed I can go back during the day to get a better idea of what they have! In the meantime, this is a good place for an Asian bakery fix. They do list out ingredients under the names of their baked goods so that's awesome! From what I could see, their baked goodies are likely not vegan or gluten-free friendly, though...

Just my opinion, but this is the best bakery in Central Jersey. Everything is always fresh and…read morestraight from the oven. Their cakes are beautifully decorated and delicious. They also offer tea, coffee, and refreshing fruit drinks in the summer. My go-to items are the almond croissant and the coconut buns, but the donuts are flaky and tasty too. They even have a membership program that gives you dollars off your purchases--definitely worth joining if you come often. Overall, if you're looking for a bakery to try, this place is absolutely worth a visit. There's plenty of parking and a few tables where you can sit, relax, and enjoy your treats.
