"So, rock me mama like a wagon wheel Rock me mama any way you feel Hey... mama rock me" (Darius Rucker) Mama sure knows how to rock in the kitchen because her food menu is an embarrassment of riches. Let's take a look at what Mama's kitchen whips up in the morning. How about (are you kidding me?) SIXTEEN different breakfast sandwiches and nine omelets/wraps/platters. Already had breakfast? Fine, let's see what her lunch options look like. How do 65 sandwich/grinder options grab you. They run the gamut from favorites like an Italian combo and Meatball Parmigiana to more exotic types like a Caprese Panini and the Calabria with a chicken cutlet, broccoli rabe, melted Provolone and hot fried peppers and oil. We wanted to pick up something to split for dinner later in the weekend and went with one of our favorites - a Meatball Parmigiana Grinder ($9.95). It was big. It had plenty of sauce and cheese, and most importantly, plenty of big meatball halves. Absolutely no skimping on the meatballs. They were plentiful and tasted great. The Italian bread was top quality as well. Half of that grinder was absolutely enough for a satisfying dinner portion. And considering both of us had dinner for their $9.95 price, the grinder was a sensational value. Thanks, Mama, for an awesome, delicious, and economical dinner for two.

This is a cute place on the corner of Post Rd and Noroton Ave in Darien and seems to draw a lot of local traffic. Inside it is fairly roomy and has a large selection of both cold and hot subs and Sandwiches. I decided to go with the Chicken Cutlet Parm on a Wedge with fries. The prices are extremely decent for the location and the quantity is very generous as well. As for the taste, yes have been craving it since my last visit, so I fully endorse!

Delicious sandwiches. Very buzzy on Saturday mornings! Their homemade nuggets are incredible!

I'm a sucker for good Deli's. That's what Carmelas is, friendly people serving tasty sandwiches and well seasoned potato cones.the place looked clean and three workers checked in with me about my order while I was waiting...never had such good service at a Deli.

The first thing you notice walking in is the atmosphere. It's gorgeous--lots of natural light during the day and soft, moody lighting in the evening that plays off the wood floors and exposed recovered beams. It feels organic and warm, yet the white tablecloths and pressed-leather menus let you know you're in for a serious meal. The service was impressively discreet; they were always there when we needed something but never interrupted the flow of our conversation. They started us off with some incredibly fresh bread, which was a great sign of things to come. For starters, do not skip the Mussels Fra Diabolo. The broth has a perfect hit of garlic and basil, and the crostini is essential for soaking up every drop of that marinara. We also tried the Parmesan Brussel Sprouts--the candied walnuts add a crunch and sweetness that balances the savory sprouts perfectly. For the mains, the Chicken and Wild Mushrooms Pappardelle was a standout. The truffle oil was fragrant without being overpowering, and the presentation tied the whole dish together. I also have to mention the Roasted Chicken. It's rare to find chicken this flavorful and juicy with such a distinct, crispy skin. The combination of spicy sausage and cherry peppers gave it a nice heat, balanced out by the whipped potatoes and spinach. We finished with the coconut and blood orange sorbet, which was the ideal light, refreshing conclusion to the meal. If you're looking for a place where you can actually hear your companions speak while enjoying top-tier presentation and food quality, this is it. A total culinary delight.

I don't want to make this review too personal. But . . …read more Perhaps you're like me and you long for the days when restaurants offered friendly attentive service. You miss when menus were lists that described the dishes to be served- and not failed lessons in Freshman expository writing requiring Berlitz to translate (the ancestor to DuoLingo). And, if you dared to dream, you hoped for reasonably-priced food that exceeded what your sainted Aunty Margaret could have conjured in the finest kitchen. If you're nodding in agreement, then why aren't you dining at Paparazzi in Darien? On a Thursday night, my wife and I stumbled upon an unassuming restaurant at the start of the Post Road in Darien. The Amazon- acquired "Open" sign did not portend the extraordinary restaurant experience that awaited us. Each piece in our eggplant tower appetizer was meticulously fried to achieve the perfect balance of crispy exterior and succulent eggplant lurking below. The sauce paired the robustness of the tomato with a Spring-like freshness (which, if Vivaldi had ever tried, he would have stopped his legendary composition after that one season). Knowing that lightning dares not strike twice, I anticipated that the Chicken Sophia Loren (which paired Fontina cheese and spinach) would be better than passable but hardly as tasty as the eggplant. But, like a bolt out of the blue, Paparazzi brought forth not a humble version of a chicken francaise but a dish which sparkled with the appeal of the actual Sophia Loren. The wine and butter sauce (and its subtle hint of lemon) provided the perfect balance creating a cradle which nurtured the succulent chicken cutlets and masterfully tender spinach. Paparazzi, though, does not simply let its fare stand on its own. The engaging and attentive (but not fawning) waitstaff made a great meal a truly memorable dining experience- and the perfect way to celebrate our 15 years of marriage. If you seek Italian food that rises to the level of fine cuisine (without the typical exorbitant price tag), then you owe it to yourself, your taste buds and your wallet to become a Paparazzi regular.
