In the fast-food universe, the empanada is an incredibly comforting and flavorful food in the shape of a half-moon made with flour dough or corn flour dough. One can stuff them with any number of things. On this Nochebuena (Christmas Eve), while in the neighborhood of Totowa, my partner and I decided to pay a visit to this establishment for takeout as first-timers. Opened 6 years ago, Mama Ana's Empanadas is a family-owned restaurant specializing in empanadas located off of Union Blvd. Greeted by the staff upon arrival, the interior vibe was not only festive but cozy and casual with seating for 20 patrons. From the menu, one can choose up to 18 different kinds of empanadas, from classic beef or chicken to cheesesteak and Cuban; either have them baked or fried. They also offer Latin" bowls, salads, and sandwiches. We decided on the cheesesteak empanada and broccoli & cheese empanada, as well as the Chicharrones de Cerdo bowl, accompanied by rice and beans with a side of maduros (sweet plantain). The cheesesteak was tasty. The broccoli came with mozzarella, which was salty. The cheddar would have been better. The empanada dough was hot, flaky, and huge. Chicharrones de cerdo bowl was served piping hot and hit the spot. The pork wasn't hard but had great flavor and chew. The price was reasonable due to its size and portion. The service was slow, but we know the food was made fresh. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Ada and Yame. We can recommend this place.

I loved everything we ate. Definitely became one of my favorite spots to eat at in the area! Everything was served fresh and hot. So delicious. I might go again today.

I have been here multiple times, and I am shocked that I haven't reviewed it! Mama Ana's is absolutely amazing. I have eaten at the restaurant and have taken out food from there multiple times. The quality has always been consistent and absolutely amazing. The ingredients are extremely fresh and the combinations of empanadas that they have are out of this world. Along with empanadas, they also have great plates/bowls that you can order. I will constantly be coming here whenever I'm in the area

My husband and I ordered a few empanadas and overall they were good. I wish the Buffalo chicken one did have more sauce through and not just at the bottom. But overall, each empanada was great and packed with meat/protein.

The food was AMAZING !! I mean EVERYTHING we ordered was perfectly seasoned and had us begging for more. I would've posted our food but we devoured it the minute the trays hit the table lol. Service was beautiful, they were very patient as our kids didn't know what they wanted. The restaurant has parking in the back and they play Latin music inside at a very comfortable volume. Id HIGHLY recommend this place. What we had: Chicharrónes de Cerdo con yuca, Steak Bowl, Pernil Empanada, Chicken & Cheese Empanada, Bean & Cheese Empanada, & Revuelta Empanada. Smoothies: Strawberry Lemonade, Morir Soñando, Passion Fruit, & Piña Colada. We recommend EVERYTHING *hubby took a photo of his food

Food was great, service was good and inside was clean. The empanadas were fresh, hot and full of flavor. We ordered the Pernil and the chicken bacon ranch! Lots of cheese in these so be prepared! Happy we found this spot, kept us from eating mall food!

Saw the great reviews and decided to give this place a try. SUPER cute upon walking in. Love the ambiance. Sizeable dining area inside and tables outside as well for outdoor eating. I ordered both a fried and baked empanada to see which I liked better. Surprisingly I enjoyed the baked version more! I ordered one chicken and one beef. Both had a really decent amount of meat inside. The beef was a little salty, so I'm hoping it was a one time thing. Will definitely be back to try the platters.

Great delicious empanadas, both fried and baked! Their chicken chimi was also delicious! Cozy small place, which has indoor seating during Covid with social distancing.

This is a clean casual eating restaurant with a colorful upbeat vibe, Spanish wall art and music. They have cafeteria style steam trays and some tables. I think they do a lot of take-out. Not having a lot of Cuban food experience, I did recognize the empanadas ($3,95), fried pork, red and black beans and yellow rice before settling on a Cuban sandwich ($12.95).The sandwich was just what I needed at the time. Hot, flavorful and the ham and pork was hot, well seasoned and juicy. The bread had a crispy cover but soft on the inside. I understand that the Abuela still does some of the cooking. I usually eat around 3pm so at 5:30 I was starving. I'll be eating more Cuban food in the future!

The graffiti outside screamed "quirky and cute." Inside? Nearly empty, with a hot food stand that…read morelooked suspiciously like a supermarket deli's last cry for help. We ordered fish & chips and a Cuban sandwich. Bold moves, apparently. The fish was so tasteless, I think I offended it by taking a bite. Honestly, frozen supermarket fish would've put up more of a fight. The fries? Also running for the "most bland" award. And the Cuban sandwich--ham, cheese, and shredded pork so thin I had to squint to find the protein. A whisper of meat. A ghost of flavor. But wait, it gets better. A Snapple? $4.00. For that price, I expected someone to at least open it for me. Instead, zero service--and yet, the screen still flipped around asking for a tip. The audacity? Inspiring. Just not in the way they think
