Everything from the atmosphere to the food very authentic and the staff was very friendly

My honest take on Malou's... My best friend had the Sizzle Pig (Sisig) w/egg along with the Shanghai Lumpia and Pancit. I myself had the Dinuguan Dare with white rice and the veggie lumpia. *both of us asked for a little extra spicy since we can tolerate a lot more heat than most* Now the one thing that we noticed upon walking in was that there were quite a few native families in there eating. To me that's a good sign. When you go to a truly ethnic restaurant and you see that, it's a testament to the authenticity. After we got our plates, we both sampled each other's dishes and we both immediately said to each other "we're definitely coming back here to try everything else..." The sisig was perfectly cooked and the chicken in the pancit was tender and flavorful. Noodles were perfect. The dinaguan was savory and rich, the gravy alone was good enough if I had some by itself I would pour it on rice or noodles and eat it. The meat was tender and the spices were present in every single bite... The lumpia... OMG the lumpia... Crispy, perfect amount of veg and fillings. I could make myself fat just snacking on those all day. As far as the heat goes, we asked for a little extra spice and it was there, but wasn't just "hot to be hateful" like some places think of heat. It was more of a savory burn that just makes your face feel warm and you do break a sweat. Could definitely go a bit more on the spicy levels next time because it was that damned good... Talking with the owner and one of the young ladies that worked there (Ainsley I think) about our experiences with foods from different areas. Also mentioning how we had Filipino food in ATL before and never really had somewhere here to enjoy it. Needless to say, this place is a more than welcome welcome addition to the city. I was excited to discover a Filipino restaurant in Huntsville, so I had to give it a try. I placed my order through their website, which was very easy and convenient. My food was ready at the designated time, and I even received a text notification letting me know it was ready. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill once I arrived. I was there around 2:00 p.m. on August 13, and I wasn't greeted at all. Usually, Filipino restaurants are known for friendly, welcoming customer service, but that definitely wasn't my experience today. The young ladies at the counter simply looked at me as if I didn't know what I was doing. I said I had a phone order, and one of them rather unenthusiastically responded, "Name?" I gave her my name, she handed me the food, and that was essentially the entire interaction. Very disappointing. As for the food, I ordered chicken adobo with rice and two lumpia, as well as lechon kawali with four lumpia. Unfortunately, the lumpia were burnt. One side was dark brown while the other was nearly black. One of them was even bursting open on one side, presumably from being fried at too high a temperature. They looked nothing like the picture on the restaurant's website, where the lumpia were a nice light golden brown and intact. That's especially unfortunate because the portions that were edible were actually quite good. I could tell the lumpia filling had the potential to be really delicious. The lumpia were also huge--one piece was easily the equivalent of two or three pieces at some other Filipino restaurants I've visited. The chicken adobo had the right flavors and could have been really good, but the chicken itself tasted and felt like it had been cooked more than a day or two ago and had spent quite a bit of time simmering or being reheated. I say that because I've eaten leftover chicken adobo at home many times, and when the dark meat that is normally tender becomes unusually firm and darker in color, that's usually a sign that it's past its prime. The winner, without a doubt, was the lechon kawali! It was fresh, crispy, and crunchy--the way I love it. That was definitely the highlight of my meal. Overall, it was a mixed experience. The food showed some real potential, especially the lumpia filling and the lechon kawali, but the customer service and quality of some of the other items were disappointing. If I'm ever in Huntsville again, I may give them another try. I like to give Filipino restaurants a second chance--unless the food gives me a stomachache! read more

First time and my only comparison to your food is the fact that my wife is a Filipina and we lived in Cavite for nearly 15 years before moving to Florida. Your Caldareta is the closest to authentic & delicious I have had outside of our home. Healthy serving and reasonably priced. Still in a Soft Opening mode, but I suggest you have staff at the front counter, who knows something about Filipino food and how it's portioned and what is included in each menu item. I was looking for something different to eat so I ran into this place. The food is absolutely delicious. I got the barbecue bliss (chicken) and the meat was so flavorful. I also got the empanadas my first time trying it came with a vinegar base sauce. When I tell you the crunch on this empanadas are everything. Ordered via their online site and got it delivered. They were very prompt and they packaged the order well. Ordered the BBQ pork skewers, pancit, and extra lumpia. It all was AMAZING! BBQ pork was nice and tender with good flavor. Pancit had a full medley of veggies and protein (chicken). And the lumpia was fresh and warm. Nice and crunchy exterior with a good balance of meet and veggie inside. And don't forget the chili sauce! Would order again and definitely plan to! read more
