Unfortunately cannot comment on the food - but disappointed with Covid safety. We tried to use their outdoor dining space which has now been enclosed. Since it was empty we felt ok trying it, (we had our toddler with us and want to keep her safe and healthy.) Before we were seated we very politely requested the waiter wear a mask since we were worried about our 2 year old and Covid. We were told they would not wear masks even in the 10 second interchange to take our order and bring us our food outside. Overall just really disappointing experience considering the omicron variant is highly contagious. read more

I've had the pleasure of coming here probably about six times. It is always a consistent 4.5 stars. C'mon Yelp, how hard would it be to put in half stars; take a lesson from Untappd. Their tap selection is, if not the best in the state, pretty damn close. Anyone with the room and the desire can bolster their tap count by just adding more. The problem with that is if you don't look after your beer it can get old fast. Recent memory takes me to an ale house in Brielle that boasts of over 50 taps. I tried one that was so old I had to return it after one sip. The other problem with multi taps is keeping them clean. Maloney's handles both concerns quite well. While sitting at the bar last night I noticed a gentleman, I presume the owner, taking taste tests from several of the taps. I've heard he designed and built his own stainless steel tap system that he's very particular about. I've never had a beer here that was old or "off" in flavor; this says a lot about how they take their beer seriously. Enough about beer. OK, so you aren't enamored (a shame) with fermented malt and hop concoctions, then you have a full bar at your disposal; I can't speak for the wine; but I can speak for the food. They serve pub food but several entrées too. I've tried several of their items and they are all good. Last night I had their Crispy Chipotle Chicken sandwich with tater tots; love tots. The presentation was excellent, the taste awesome. This isn't spicy at all for those that fear heat, just delicious. A couple of other things to consider. Their beer prices are slightly higher than comparable places. You'll pay $7 and up for a beer. Depending on the style that beer could be 12 ounces or 16; maybe even 10. It's worth the cost if you demand the best. The service here is always good. The ambiance inside is better than you might expect in a pub. Dining room and bathrooms are spotless. Good food, good beer, good people. read more

Have been here a few times but not in quite awhile now. Living by 'the shore' sometimes we prefer to escape inland on the weekends. Thus came another trip to Maloney's on a Friday early evening. I was happily surprised to see the place was not crowded at all & hubby & I had our choice of seats at the bar. We were happy to see their beer selection was as good as ever (truth be told, the MAIN reason we were here). It's obvious the owner of this particular establishment takes his beer seriously & cares about the quality of what he is serving his patrons. I have NEVER had a bad (old) beer here. Even if I don't particularly like the beer I am tasting, that is just personal preference & has nothing to do with the quality. I also appreciate that they have no problem letting you sample a beer before you order it. Very helpful. I ordered a tuna BLT for dinner that came with an optional side of tater tots. A tater tot has not passed through these lips for a VERY LONG TIME! The whole thing was delicious, including those tots. The only negative I could come comment on is the roll, although fresh & tasty, but a bit too large. The top of the roll itself was about 1" high, way more carbs than I need to eat. I'd happily give this place a 5 however I think they are also a bit pricey, especially with those delicious beers. Here, it seems like they only serve in 10 oz for that same price but charge the same as you would pay elsewhere & receive a 16 oz glass. Also, they do not have a happy hour. Great place to come for a good vibe and a bite to eat! The beers on tap are amazing and a decent price. I love that they have a wide selection from IPAs to sour beers to ciders and even a good selection of stouts. I had a kombucha cider that was fantastic and I was super excited to try. For dinner we started with onion rings and spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer. Both were typical bar food. I had the fish and chips which I really enjoyed. Great Irish bar and restaurant offering traditional Irish fare and quality bar food. Definitely a great place to have a pint of Guinness or a pint of traditional cider on tap. My wife and I come here on occasion and have always left happy. The patrons are also very nice and relaxed people not a bunch a juice heads or anything you can sometimes get at a beach bar during the summer months. The waitress was walking around like she was practicing ballet, while a Latina woman catered to all her tables. A double jack Daniels that was the same size as a single graced our table for 18.00. Dirty table and water glasses. The waitress came to check on our table once! June 2021. Outdoor seating available. We were seated on a busy Saturday 6:30 pm indoors with tables were filled and close together. We walked in with masks were told we did not have to wear masks. Staff did not wear masks or gloves. It's up to you to take a risk indoors and trusting those with you or nearby that they have been vaccinated. You also have the outdoor option, under large, airy tents. So for large or small groups and families it is a very good option. On the food side, the menu offered a wide variety of items and prices. There is also a complete and reasonably priced beer and wine list. We ordered entrees and also were able to order mixed drinks and wine all around. The chops and shrimp were plentiful and good, but I would not recommend the steak entree as a strong point. There is no visible sign in front of the restaurant. There are nice chairs and lighting for patrons out front. They are located in the middle of the block. You can park along Main Street. There is also a parking area in the back, with an ally way to the front if the restaurant. It was my first time at Maloney's and I think it was a friendly neighborhood place with good vibe and service. I hope they continue to be successful by making the best of a challenging past year re-engaging "dining out." I would recommend this place as a very good local pub and restaurant. read more

The draft menu is crazy. The Maloney Steak was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The clam Chowder was also very good, potatoes cooked nice and not mushy. I thought the Ruben had good flavor but it wasn't as good for my partner, but she also wasn't very hungry. My daughter the picky eater she is really enjoyed the chicken fingers here. Servicer did not have much of a personality, but she did attend to us well, as well as, the rest of the staff was on point, definitely will be returning. read more

Cocktails are always delicious as are the burgers! Staff is always wonderful! My only complaint is that the fries have tasted stale too many times, like they've been refried over again. But we come here probably 5-7 times a month...walking distance to a good pub is priceless read more

My wife and I fell in love with this place. We were down the shore and needed a highly rated place on Yelp. It was Oktoberfest time and we lucked out! Also returned at a later date and got different items. It's a decent size place where parking is available on the St. We have gone off peak both times and have been able to score spots. Each time we went we were assisted by the same, friendly server. Their beer list is gigantic. Seriously it's super impressive. So choose wisely but if you don't there are others you can try. Moderate pricing on all of them. Food is exquisite! Their salad can be split in two to share. We usually skip the fried apps since we are glutinous on entrees. What we have had - Wiener schnitzel - outstanding and a hefty portion. Bratwurst - on a pretzel roll with grilled onions, fries and sautéed oinions - ridiculous! Was so good I got it both times I was there (it's on the menu always not just Oktoberfest). Chicken Murphy - potato's, delicious sauce, fork cutting chicken, peppers...a combo of deliciousness! though i have been living in Matawan for 11 years, I only discovered this Great restaurant 2 years ago. What a loss of 9 years. Their food, service and ambiance are all A-1. Onion Soup is better than anything i've had in this country. Same for Bistro Mussels (garlic/wine, etc)- in fact, i don't know how they maintain the delicate, fresh, smooth taste of these for such a large-sized shell/mussel. Basa Oregenata, superb. Burgers- what more can i say. I've never been disappointed here (only one thing: didn't like their Veggie burger). Reubens, Chipotle Chicken (wh/ is Not really too spicy at all), and even the Cobb Salad- all excellent. You MUST come here. There's no bologna at Maloney's when it comes to beer. I heard about this pub through a few other beer aficionados living in the area. I finally made it in here a few Sundays ago and was happy that I made the trek. Talk about a great beer selection. Maloney's has you covered! I started off local by ordering a Kane Brewing Company Drift Line and then a Vanilla Porter from Big Muddy Brewing Company. My girlfriend ordered a Delirium, which she was very happy with. I liked that even though the Giants were on the TVs hanging over the bar, our bartender cranked up the 50s rock n roll station and was singing along to the tunes. I did not order food, but everything on the menu sounded amazing. The only thing that turned me off about Maloney's were the prices. The beers here were certainly not cheap and I didn't see many beers below $5. I figured since it was a Sunday they might have some type of craft beer special but no such luck. They have a tremendous variety of beer on tap listed on the menu by category - Belgians, wheats, lagers, porters & stouts, IPAs etc. And if you haven't quite moved beyond budweiser or the like you might find your beer on tap as well. Why you would is another question.. Prices are fairly high for some of the beers, but you can ask for samples in order to find one you really like rather than picking one at random. Given the variety, the wholesale costs and the fact its a relatively small place i can see why prices are on the high side. I like the food as well. I happen to be a fan of the cobb salad however one time it was huge while the next time it was about half the original size. One of the regulars said "welcome to Maloney's", but I have not seen anything like that since. read more

This is the first time we have been here in years and since they now have outdoor seating on the rear patio due to the pandemic, we said let's give it a try. Our appetizer was amazing...Portuguese shrimp. About 8 shrimp bathing in their our sauce on a bed of Italian bread. So good. My main entry was a ribs- a nice kick to them. Huge selection of IP beers.
