Has to be the best Sunday lunch I've had outside of London (at what I rate really good Sunday…read morelunches - Blacklock and Hawksmoor). Lovely relaxed atmosphere and great service. Had the Chicken Livers on Waffle to start - which was super tasty. For the main event had Roast Beef with the best potatoes ever. Over ordered as also had cauliflower cheese on the side! Finished it off with a Baked Alaska! Could not recommend the place more - can't wait to go back!

The first thing you notice is that it's much smaller than you imaged. Headrow House is super trendy (neon signs, etc) and so is Ox Club. From what I saw, all the men who worked here had beards! The kitchen was open which meant you could see all the action going on - always a good touch. The food wasn't as good unfortunately. We ordered two starters: the Hamachi Tuna (one of the specials) and a Radish dish. I thought the Radish was pretty good - very light and fresh - but maybe that's because I'm not used to eating Radish like that. The tuna was average. For our mains, we ordered a Onglet steak (a special) and a Iberico Secreto (a pork cut from behind the neck). The Iberico Secreto wasn't bad and was pretty tender. On the other hand, the Onglet didn't taste of much at all. The hogweed side that it came with was honestly 10x better. We also ordered some potatoes and spinach on the side. I was impressed by the spinach which was sweet as it was paired with Apple slices and walnuts. The potatoes were... well standard potatoes. They were sitting in a seaweed sauce which was decent (it went well with the potatoes) but they didn't really absorb it very well. The service wasn't bad. Only thing we noticed is they topped up our glasses of wine from our bottle the first time but that was it. TLDR: 4/5 for atmosphere. 3/5 for food.

My friend and I decided to go to Ilkley one Sunday, as she had just passed her driving test and I…read morewas long overdue a good shop. We had intended to stay for lunch and it was getting to around that time, our tummies were certainly on the rumble, and so we decided to head back to Oakleys since we'd spotted it earlier. I can't tell you how glad I am we made this decision. I mean, there was Betty's but their queue was as long as my childhood, so we'd already decided not to bother there. Oakleys was different. Don't get me wrong, it was really buzzing for a Sunday in the arcade - almost everything else was shut. But, there was only a small queue and most of their patrons were of an elderly age, which meant the place was very civilised and peaceful. The decor was cosy, they had a very rustic vintage feel with some nice plants and cute little round tables. At the tills was a large deli counter, filled with the most delightful looking cakes ever. Had we not been stopping for a proper lunch I would have definitely gone with the lemon cheesecake. Then again I seem to remember coveting all their cakes and discussing that, if we had room, we could get one each and share so as to try two at once! This never happened in the end, but I am certain those cakes would have been to die for. Now for the food. What can I say? YUM! It was nothing too fancy, simplistic, but my it was effective. They had a specials board with the cooked meals, everything else was sandwich based, although we noted that it was more than likely they weren't specials in that each day they were something new - more that they were the hot meals, and that's why they were special. Crikey they were cheap too - nothing on the board was over £6! I had the lasagna and my friend had the salmon. Both of us had a bit of salad and chips to accompany our mains too. The chips were perfection, chunky, not too greasy and totally melty. Salad made me feel less guilty and the lasagna was perfect. Like a home cooked pub lasagna but a nicer price. It was utterly delicious and totally a delightful stop for lunch. Service was great too, friendly and polite. Highly recommend!

But whilst talking to someone after Leeds West Indian Carnival he recommended the hotel. 'you know the owners. They used to own that delicatessen near your house.' that did it. I temebered the nice couple whohsed to serve Goyer cheese and salami. I also got my favourite polish caramel sweets from there. So i booked and got a lift there within half hour. They were welcoming and as friendly as I remembered them from 1972. Booking in was so good My bags were carried upstairs and i was wished good night. I watched tv for half an hour then settled in the cosy bed with pretty flowered bedding. I slept through till 7. A rarity for me. I felt at home.Breakfast at 8.30 was a wonderful experience in a spacious restaurant. I had a spoonful of each cereal and the milk was brought in a small jug. Personal service making me feel special. Toast was brought in on a plate and tea in a teapot. My breakfast was well cooked and on an oval plate.they asked if everything was ok, did I need anything else. I was even offered another pot of tea in case the other was cold. They took time to have a conversation when I said I used to buy ham salami and cheese from them. I Mentioned my favourite sweets too. I then went back to bed for half an hour. The other staff were as friendly as the owners. They allowed me to watch tv and charge my phone in the lounge though it was past checking out time. Everyone was So calm and relaxed. And someone even send them some flowers. All in all it was a wonderful experience and i can't wait to-do it again.
